What bit and what size does YOUR pony go in?

I have a 13.3 pinto with a cob size head that goes in a 5" ported D Myler. Just changed to a 5" French link because the reins on the new bridle I bought do not fit through the slots on the Myler - yeesh.

So I got to wondering what other people use on their ponies. :)

DD's large goes in a cob size bridle, with a regular 5" bit.

What a timely post! Our club just had a bit lecture last night. At any rate- it has been a nightmare trying to find the right size for our medium. The 4.5 is way small. The 5 is a smidge big. Some of the 4.75 (when you can find one!) are too squinchee and some are "just right' (gee- it sounds like Goldilocks!). The frustrating thing is that may of the various bit options don't come in 4.75.

Both of the larges here are probably the best in a 4.75, though one of them is a little clunkier and can do fine in a 5 (I think his little pelham is a 5). The medium can probably get away with 4.5 or 4.75, the small is totally a 4.5. I think both the larges wear cob size bridles, the little ones probably pony (definitely the small! He is so dainty).

My old pony has a big cob/horse sized head and takes a 5". My POA takes a 4.75. Both are almost 13.2hh. :)

Most of my smalls use a 4.0, the mediums use a 4.5 usually and my larges are in 4.75. You can find a good assortment of pony bits at www.justforponies.com.

Oh my. So many nice ones to choose from!

What is the most 'fashionable' cheek in the ring right now?

My daughter's large quarter pony went in a 4.75 D-ring, cob size Edgewood bridle and an Edgewood pony martingale.

This is really embarrassing... My HORSE goes in a 4.25-4.5ish 'PONY' bit. It's all relative! Or at least that's what I keep telling myself

Oh- and as far as I have seen D-rings are pretty much the most fashionable cheekpiece in hunters right now.

I had a medium that went in a 4.5" I believe. Or maybe he went in a 4.75". I can't remember. I do know that he didn't go in a 5" though. We tried one when I first got him and it was way too big.
