I know, I know, another thread on this. The search feature isn't bringing much up for me though.

My horse is currently stabled in Sanford (30 minutes from Southern Pines and Fayetville), but will be moving to Buies Creek (Dunn, Coates, Erwin area) in a few weeks.

My horse has had one adjustment before, but after getting charged nearly $400 for a quoted $200 visit, I'm definitely not going to use that vet again. What are some reasonably priced chiropractors that serve these areas? I'm not super cheap or anything, but $400 was ridiculous for a horse who, according to the vet, barely needed anything done.

Thanks!

Dr. Sue Chandler - have used her for 11 years. petchiro@mindspring.com or PM me for her phone number. She has played a major role in rehabbing our big baby boy after he tried break dancing in the pasture.

There is an incredible vet coming in from NY this weekend to Southern Pines who has worked on my horses, PM for details.

Another vote for Susan Chandler. And I know she goes to that area regularly. She's great and very reasonably priced!

another vote for Elizabeth Engel. I had my gelding adjusted by a horse vet that does chiro in the area and was charged a ton for very little work. Dr. Engel came out to my barn, watched the horse move, checked him out and adjusted everything from his poll to his hind feet and was totally reasonably priced. and the horse melted into a puddle during the adjustment.

Ditto Dr. Chandler! She is terrific. My barn owner uses her and I just had her out for my gelding, first time I've ever used a chiropractor. The horses love her and she was very nice about answering all my questions. Price is $95 for the first visit and $75 thereafter.

Hi Sorry to thread-highjack but does anyone know if any of the chiropractors mentioned (or unmentioned) would travel to the Durham area?

I'm on the east side of Raleigh, but I know Dr. Engel does do quite a bit on Durham also...

I use and highly recommend Blades McKnight at Triangle Equine in Cary, NC. She is frequently in Sanford, and I know that Durham is not a problem; Dunn I have no idea, but I would guess that's probably in their coverage area. They come to see my horses in Greensboro, so you're a lot closer :-). She does an outstanding job, and I trust this vet practice implicitly with my horses, they really are exceptional, and are helping me manage all of my horses comfortably into ridiculously old age.

Thanks guys! Does anyone have numbers they wouldn't mind posting (or PM'ing)?

Dr. Darcey Walraven. Amazing, wonderful -- has taken my horse, whose legs would buckle if you leaned on the top of his pelvis, to 100% and eventing. I can't say enough about her. I do use Blades Macknight for my vet and I love her for vet work, but still can't beat Dr. Darcey for chiro work. You can google her name for her website and contact info.

She is based in Statesville, but regularly comes to the Raleigh/Durham area to work (we are in the NW side of Raleigh, no problems, we also sometimes meet her N of Durham too).

See my post above, she is based in the Charlotte area, that's where I first started working with her.

Dr. Kris Woodaman. She is based in Columbus, NC (near Tryon). Although Dr. Susan Chandler would probably be easier to get a hold of and she lives in Charlotte.

Dr. Karla Christie, based in Salisbury, travels quite a lot, rides and competes herself so has a better than average understanding of what we're dealing with.

Anyone who has used a chiropractor before, can you explain to me a bit about how the visits go, what they do with the horse, etc.? I'm also living in this area and am starting to consider calling in a chiropractor for my horse, especially after seeing the price, which is more reasonable than I thought. I'm a little cautious about using a chiropractor - why, I'm not sure. My horse has a super tense back, especially when jumping, and I'd at least like to hear what a chiropractor thought about her.

Basically, the chiro needs to watch your horse move to identify where problem areas might be. Then they do the "laying on of hands" LOL where they will feel out head to toe joints and vertebrae. Then they will adjust anything that needs adjusting. Mine just uses her hands and leverage for this and has an amazingly perceptive and experienced eye. I used one chiro who spend 45 minutes watching my horse before she adjusted him -- she missed several things that were caught afterwards by my regular chio, who can watch my horse for two minutes and see what's going on. So someone who spends a ton of time staring at your horse is not necessarily indicative of quality.

I too would like contact info for Dr. Engle, I am about 45 minutes north of the Benson area near Wilson NC and I have a horse that needs work as well as at least one student of mine's horse.

Dr. Engel? I find she's quite affordable compared to what I've paid others and she is SSOOO good.

I guess it depends on your perspective. My regular chiro charges me $85 for an adjustment and she is awesome, my friend used Dr. Engel, also found her awesome, but paid like $150 or something.

Really?... I think last time (within the last month) it was $100 including the trip fee (and she came all the way to Clayton to just do my horse).

Dr. Engel is coming out to do our horses on 7/25 at $85 each and not charging a trip fee since she lives literally a mile from our barn (yay!). Does anyone know how long she usually recommends that horses have off afterwards? I ask because I've loaned my gelding to a barnmate for a dressage show on 7/18 but she's been waitlisted. There's another local show on 7/26 in case she can't get into the one on 7/18, but to me, that seems a day or so too soon after an adjustment.

Has anyone used a guy named Greg in Southern Pines? I know that a couple farms use him, but would like a little input on him. I had Dr. Chandler out, but she literally only worked on the horses for 5 minutes, and I was just a bit disappointed. I mean, there was a difference, but not as much as when Blades McKnight came out. I'm trying to find someone who does a really good job, but without the massive price tag.

We use Greg on an almost weekly basis. He is not a chiropractor and will be quick to correct you if you ask him.

I have used Greg Wilder. He was recommended to me and I REALLY liked him. He isn't a chiropractor. I'm not sure what he considers himself. I am from SC but would definitely drive to SP to use him again!

We love Dr. Engel too - she is very reasonable in price, splits trip fees when she can, and my horses LOVE her.

She usually recommends 3 days off but sometimes 1-2 days if there wasn't much to adjust.
