Hey all -

I've never in my life bought a Rambo before (above my budget ) but am considering the Rambo fly sheet for my mare. She is out with my old guy 24/7 in a grass field w/ shelter and can be rough on her blankets/sheets (only due to rolling when she grinds everything into the ground ).

Is this fly sheet worth it and will there be any less static from it due to the material it is made out of? Everything else seems to shock my mare when I take them off and she is ultra-sensitive to stuff like that .

Thanks :).

the Rambo sheet with the fly repellent built in works very well. we have a mare that has a fly allergy and it made her summer much more enjoyable last year. Worth the extra cash. Also really like the Tri tech fly spray, it also is very expensive but works well.

Not in my experience! I found the Rambo Fly Buster sheet absolutely NOT worth the money!

I love the Protector, though. ryansgirl, I've never had ANY static pulling it off--never even thought about static with fly sheets.

I have owned two Rambo blankets (note, not fly sheets)... one is still up and running the other didn't last a month... not sure I'd spend the $$$ on a Rambo fly sheet now that my Kensington fly sheet is going strong it's third year now.

I FAR prefer my Rambo fly sheets to my Kensingtons--and I was a die-hard Kensington person for nearly 10 years. :)

I just bought an older model Protector (no built-in repellant) and the fabric is definitely sturdier than the Amigo that lasted 2 months! It is rubbing a bit on the wither, though, but my horse is very thick through the chest so YMMV.

I do like it!

Have used Rambo, Amigo, and Kensington. My mare itches to death - rubbed out her whole mane and tail and bloody on the stomach last summer. Didn't like Kensington at all. Liked the Rambo - but switched to Amigo because of the belly band. I like it, but after a few washings, it collapses on her neck and doesn't cover her mane. Anyone think the Rambo would stay up better? I'd much prefer her scratch the fly sheet and leave her mane!

(Obviously - we have itchy issues to deal with - working on that - but any suggestions would be great!)

Love Horseware products in general - they last years, and my guys are HARD on their clothes. Haven't tried the fly sheet with built-in repellent, but the original is made of very sturdy material. The horses sweat heavily under it when it's really warm out, but are bug-bite-free.

Yes, the Rambo is a stiff textilene rather than the softness of the Amigo. More durable too.

And I also have a scratcher, and his Amigo lasted less than 2 months :(

p.s. I haven't gotten the neck cover yet- when I received the sheet it was missing and it has taken weeks to get the seller to make good. Right now he's extremely unattractive with his rambo sheet and amigo neck cover ;)

I have never seen an Amigo with a belly band. I have both the regular Amigo and the new Amigo Mio, have washed them and really like them. No collapsing. Now my Weatherbeetas have belly bands AND the necks collapse if you don't use the little halter attachment loop. Which you can't because the necks are too short. I hate them.

OP, I have Rambos which I like, but they are heavier and so hotter than the others. I like the Amigos best, but even the hated WEatherbeetas are on their third season with MUCH rolling and being pulled on. The only destruction trouble I've had with any of the brands is the AMigo Mio. It is lightweight and cool, but ifthere is another horse turned out with her that might pull on it, it will tear.

All of our horses are babies and are quite hard on everything!

Lauriep - the Amigo with the belly band is the Amigo Bug Buster - which I love - it does hold up well - just wish the neck would stay in place and not slide half way down her neck. I switched from the Rambo to the Amigo because it was cooler - it gets really hot in FL summers! I'm considering switching back if I can get one with a neck that stays in place after washing.

That explains it. I don't use the ones w/the bug repellent. But the necks on the regular ones stay up well, so far at least. Interesting!!

I've had Rambos for years and the necks never collapse. But they are SO hot.

I love my Rambo Protector! I had the Amigo Bug Buster and while I also loved it, it lasted only one season......on a horse who has never shredded a blanket in her life....... I went out to find it torn to pieces, straps ripped off, everything. Weird. But the Protector is on its 2nd season and still looks brand new. My other mares wear the heavy textilene Wrangler fly sheets and I love those too! I'll be ordering another Rambo for the new guy coming this weekend.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my rambo protector. My gelding kills anything that isn't Rambo...In my opinion, all of the Horseware products are worth it, though I wouldn't go with the amigo line unless your horse isn't that rough on blankets.
That being said, I'm not a huge weatherbeeta fan, but I have 2 weatherbeeta fly sheets that I picked up at Rick's probably 10 years ago on sale, and they don't have a rip on them.
