In light of the tragic fates of Exceller and Ferdinand, the database below was created to keep tabs on the many Thoroughbreds spread around the world in hopes of saving them from similar ends. The horses are listed alphabetically. If you would like to add a name to the database or offer more information on a horse already listed, please email any information you have to Kirsten Wellman at whitehorsepro@yahoo.com

I am in the process of updating these pages now that I have moved them to a new

Unfortunately there was a sad ending to this story, Carol. Aly came home, was here a few months and then fractured his leg and was humanely destroyed earlier this year.

When I was down there for Rolex I stopped to visit... between the statue they've put up for John Henry, and the freshly mulched resting place of Alysheba, I may have cried like a baby. People had been leaving flowers and cards and notes there, it was really touching.

My friend was a HUGE fan of Alysheba. When she learned of his repatriation she asked me to join her on a KY road trip this spring. Being a sucker for such events, I obliged. Well poor old Alysheba passed exactly a week before our intended departure date and my friend was so despondent that we didn't go to KY at all.
I admit to being almost as sad at the loss of the trip (we had great seats for Keeneland etc) as the loss of the fine Alysheba.

He fell in his stall and fractured his femur (the fall was the result of a degenerative spinal condition, IIRC- he was losing coordination).

I was a big Alysheba fan. I was so disappointed that he didn't turn out to be a superstar at stud.

Mara, is it you, or someone else who is over on the pedigree TB board - a Mari, maybe, anyway, there is a poster over there named Alysheba who I think loves that horse. So sad. Sounds like he was cared for and loved though and that is a good thing.

I'm not on that board, but yeah, I've always had an inexplicable soft spot for Alysheba. He was just such a pro on the track, gave his all every single time.

Rest in peace my friend. It was truly a blessing to watch you race.

I could not wait to see him at Rolex this year. My horses Grandpa was his arch rival, Bet Twice...his passing was so sad but at least he was home.....I did go visit John Henry as I always do but this time he did not eat the donut so I left it and the freshly dug grave of Alysheba was there and I am sure they will do something special for him...
