Morven CCI*

Is it my imagination, or did the Morven fall CCI* disappear from the omnibus calendar in the last day or two? I hope I'm mistaken.

It's not on the venue calendar so there is a good possibility. The Morven Park CCI page has no mention of the Fall event either.

It hasn't been crossed out on the USEF FEI event list like the other events that have been crossed out. But that could just mean they haven't gotten to it yet.

Well I lost my notes from the annual meeting but I remember a discussion about it becoming a horse trial with a lot of divisions like BN on up though but not sure if that was this year. The one star was in jeopardy as I recall but really I hate to say since I don't know.

I'm hoping it's not true. I could swear I looked and the calendar recently and it was Oct 1-4, with CCI*, then a day or so ago it read Oct 2-4 HT only. ???
It was going to be my daughter's 1st One*. :-(

That was going to be my goal as well. I will have to consider if I can make Mid South work instead...but not sure that date will work with my schedule. Bummer.

Maybe it would be good, LisaB, and others who planned to attend the *, to get together an early tentative entry list, like sign an MOA or something, and send it to the organizer? I don't know if it would make a difference, but maybe they crossed it off because based on the history of entries for lfs, they didn't think there would be a respectable number? Maybe if they knew there would be more than 10 entries (or some other number... I dunno) they'd be able to commit to it more easily?

the problem with the Midsouth CCI* is that it usually falls the exact same weekend as Fair Hill **/***. That removes a lot of the pros from the equation...

Am hoping it's still on - I thought Morven was one of the events that formed the national organizing committee with Penny/Brian et al to save and nurture the long format.

It is my understanding that this change is for 2009 only, and that they hope/plan to run the CCI* again in 2010. I know that doesn't help those of you who were planning for this year, but don't count them out forever!

Wow. Just, plain, wow. Last year, following the long format CCI* there, I offered to send them a fairly sizeable check to support a long format next year and keep it alive. No one there ever followed up with me. Maybe they knew back then they weren't going to hold it, but based on what I know about the finances of putting these one, it might have made a decent difference. And, had they bothered to try to open a conversation, I suspect I could have pulled some more sponsorship money together.

Wonder why they bothered joining the group to support the long format then??? Also, if they were planning to pull it, it would have been nice to know early in the year, so that I could have committed to going to Bromont or VA. Finding out now - when it's too late to go to either properly conditioned - is pretty disappointing.

No, I know Bromont's short. But here was my thinking: I only wanted the old man to run one three day this year, and it's unlikely that we'd go to Kentucky for Mid-South given the fall three day schedule for the big horses. Had I known earlier in the year that there would not be a fall one star in this area, I would have planned to go to something this spring, even if it was a short format. As it stands now, even though he's pretty fit and obviously qualified, it might be stretching things to try to get to even a short format at Bromont (and obviously way too late for VA).

This is just killing me. Do you know how fricking long I've waited to get to a *??? And now I finally have it within my sights and I wanted to do Morven since forever and now this.
So, what prompted this? Are they have difficulty? Do they need to drum up business?
I'm emailing Midsouth and beg them to keep their * and I'll be going. And probably without my therapist (i.e. instructor). She'll be doing Fair Hill.

I emailed Midsouth this morning about their LF and got two lovely and prompt responses from both Mary Fike (the organizer) and the event secretary. They are definitely running their LF this year and plan to continue to run it.
