Both King Oak and Hitching Post are very straightforward, early season events.

Also, Huntington, later in the summer.

I'm interested in the same thing as k4tab, would SBS be considered an easier training?

The only 2 I would say would not be good move up courses are Fitch's and Millbrook. They are lovely events but the courses are challenging at all levels.

I wouldn`t call GMHA summer event a move up, either.

The July SBS is historically the "big" one. Doesn't mean you can't move up at it but I wouldn't consider it an "easy" T. The Omnibus notes it's a new xc track but that seems to refer more to P, anyone know more?

A girl that went to King Oak with me this past weekend said the training course was easy, but to me it didn't look easy. The water complex was a jump, land on grass for a stride, go into the water for 2 or 3 strides, come out on grass for one stride and jump another jump. There were also a few 1 or 2 strides, a ditch to a brush jump, two cottages with a tight inside turn that she said was made in 3? If I were to compare the locations of the jumps I would say it seemed like a right angle. There was also a 2 stride of 2 brush jumps if I'm correct.

I agree... last year there were 5 or so combinations (3 strides or less) on cc.

1. bending line in the woods at the campsite
2. water - coop two or three strides to drop in water
3. jump out of water to a few strides away (maybe 5-6) to a two stride combo
4. two off set jumps in the woods (maybe 3 strides)
5. two stride combo in the field (cabins maybe...)
6. Brush to a ditch

Everyone that went to Valinor at training level from my barn last year HATED it, thought the training was complicated and one girl even got lost because there were no arrows pointing her where to go!

It looks as though there are several Genesee Valley HT's run by different groups- which event are you familiar with Jazzy Lady? Looking for good footing and an encouraging fair course. Anyone else that's competed at these events, please share your experiences.

Genesee Valley has a few through the summer and held at different locations all of which are close to one another. All of these are nice courses. There is an additional one on the weekend of June 6th/7th, and cheap! So come on out!. This used to be just a Combined Training but they have bumped it up.

The year I rode around King Oak at training there were 5 combinations (sounds like they reuse a lot of them, as would be expected), and the course looks a bit big, but it rides REALLY well. It was my first Training and I had a bucketful of time because my QH liked to amble around the course, but the course was fantastic.

I did the Hunt HT and the Riding and Driving Club one. Oh jeeze. It was in 2005, but it was my first event on my new horse and I went training. I did both of them that summer and thought they were both lovely courses.

I really really liked the courses at Groton House. The fences are very nice and everything just seems to flow so nicely.

Groton House I might have made an okay move-up, but Groton House II is meant to be challenging and they're only running II this year.

I used Hitching Post as my move-up and it went really well for my mare and I. June GMHA could also be an option, as well as ENYDCTA's event at Old Chatham.

Since they are only running one Groton house they are making it harder than GHI but not as hard as GHII

Valinor X-Country is straightforward, the stadium is on the side of a hill and tight.
