There seem to be so many wonderful horses out there in need of homes that I am hoping we might be able to use this forum to find a new horse for my daughter. We can offer a great home in Central Ohio to one more horse but in return, he/she has to take great care of my little girl! The horse she took in 4-H last year has Navicular and I'm afraid it may be too much to ask of him to do it all again. (He is a saint though and will retire to be a trail horse so he's not going anywhere!) My daughter rides at a "beginner" level and will continue taking lessons once a week and have 1 riding 4-H meeting each week from May to October. We ride 3-4 days a week at home in addition to the meetings and lessons in the summer but our horses are on vacation Dec-Feb. We have 25 acres with a nice stream in each pasture and 4 stalls. We currently have 4 horses (The Navicular QH, a blind Shetland pony and two OTTB's that are too much for her at this time) but one of the OTTB's is going to participate in our trainers lesson program soon. I have great references and will give another horse a wonderful home! In return, I would like to find a horse who will be totally sane at home and in the ring, have great ground manners, allow my daughter to to start learning to jump this summer and be sound enough to take part in 1-2 local shows each month. My daughter is 10 years old and all leg so something between 15.2 and 16.3 would be great! So to sum it up, I would love to find a 16 hand horse that is mostly sound, totally sane and cute too would be a nice bonus! :) If you know of a horse who is looking for a home, I would love to hear from you! Thanks so much!

We are also in Central Ohio and spent a good long time looking for that horse you describe! haha My daughter is a little older ( just turned 14) but went from about 5'2" to 5'9" in a year. Depending on your daughter's height, maybe it would be a bit safer ( and easier) to find a large pony 14.2 or small horse 15 hand or so, to make it safer for her to handle. My kid's new OTTB is 16.3 and he's safe to ride, but he's a handful on the ground and his size makes it a bit intimidating. We still have both of her outgrown ponies because she can't bear to part with them ( 12.2 Welsh and 14.1 Morgan) and she really enjoys putzing around with those, still! Is your daughter in Pony Club? That's a great way to network (safe)free lease horses that have been outgrown in the area. What side of town are you?

Thank you for your reply! I do appreciate the advice and completely understand what you are saying! I am looking for a horse rather than a pony for a couple of reasons... She did start with ponies - first a 10 hand Shetland, then a 14.2 Welsh pony and then we moved onto a bigger horse with a great personality. The horse she rode last year is 16.0 so she is no stranger to taller horses (my other two horses are 15.2 and 17.3 they just present us with other issues that don't allow her to show them this year.) As I mentioned, she is all legs and although she is only 5.0, she is growing fast! I don't want to start this search all over again next year because she has outgrown her pony. I can only keep so many horses and I would like her next horse to stay with us forever. Since I already have 4 that are not really doing their jobs, I'm already pushing my husband's limits! :) So, it's my hope to find a horse that has the same mentality as the big guy she used last year who will take care of her and keep her safe for me when I am not beside her! :)

Try contacting my sister, Tara, at ponygeorge@aol.com and ask about her horse, Brooke. Brooke is an appendix type QH about 15.3hh and very good ground manners - a bit green under saddle, but quiet. She is 7 yrs old. Located in MS so dont know if you would be interested, but she is looking for a good home for her. Good luck..

My sister has a small rescue near Mt. Vernon and may have a horse that might be of interest.

I have a 14 year old tobiano medicine hat who is a total puppy dog, wonderful ground manners and a doll to ride. He has been trained professionally in western, but would excel at any discipline. I have ridden dressage/eventing my whole life, and have never ridden a horse who responds to the leg as well as this guy. He is great on trail rides. Absolutely no vices, he has also been "barefoot" for a year and a half, with gorgeous feet. I know the horse's background the time he was a weanling, and he has been well cared for his whole life. Very willing and intelligent, he is also good around children. I have had my 2 year old and 5 year old girls riding him bareback while he grazed on a lead, and he's just good as can be. I'm only letting him go to an approved home where he will be doted on and loved like crazy. There have been no ads run for him, we are just looking for the right home for him through referrals. He is very willing and enjoys working, but I am not able to ride anymore, and right now he is just a pasture companion for two older horses. He would be perfect for a girl or boy to use as a 4H project. We would love to see him in a nice home where he gets to ride and show, and be smothered with hugs and kisses! If interested, let me know!! Thanks so much to all who replied! There really are some nice horses out there! :) We found the perfect horse for sale through a friend! She really does seem to be a perfect match for my daughter!!! We just love her and I couldn't ask for more! I just want to thank all who took time to give me leads on other horses though, I hope they all find wonderful, loving homes!

Timmy, the horse "Cricket" posted here is a great little guy. He is very sweet and willing and cute as can be. I was dissappointed that he did not work out for us. (We had an opportunity to purchase a mare who has a great hunter/jumper background and went that route instead.) I did speak to his owner though and he was on his way to a great new home!
