I am very interested in the stallion Stedinger, and his offspring. Anyone out there have babies by him on the ground?
I am wondering about temperament and rideability? Are they spooky or bold Pro or ammy rides? I understand the mare has a lot to do with it as well, but I am wondering about general impressions. In addition, with his bloodlines, what kind of mare does he complement?
Thanks!

Stedinger is turning out to be a pretty good sire of fancy, flashy, big-moving dressagey offspring, but seasoned breeders in Germany do not generally recommend him for shy, spooky, sensitive, highly reactive, or temperamental mares. If your aim is produce a reliable mount for the average amateur, there are other stallions that are probably more suitable.

I have bred two out of a very bold and willing mare. Both are stunning individuals. Stedinger added movement and type, slightly longer legs and slightly shorter back. Both foals were rather shy as young babies. By weaning both were perfectly normal to handle. The older one is now three and was recently started by her owner with no problems. The two year old gelding is quiet enough for the owner's 7 year old daughter to handle. I have bred the mare back to Stedinger this year, as I really like the cross. I would not breed a shy, spooky, less willing or insecure mare to him.

While I don't have any mares that meet the above description (and in fact would not use one in an attempt to produce an amateur mount), I can say that our Stedinger colt this year is a complete doll - a very friendly, in your pocket type that loves to be petted and fussed over, and is very independent and curious about everything around him. I had heard from others (who heard from others) that some Stedinger babies are shy, reticent, or otherwise need expert handling as babies. I only have one Stedinger baby myself, but this one is easy and exhibits exceptional quality and movement, and I already bred his dam back to Stedinger for a 2010 foal.

The mare I am thinking of breeding to him is an absolute sweetheart.... not at all sensitive or reactive to anything. She is very sensible.
Home Again Farm, I have seen your Stedinger offspring on your website. Congratulations, they are just beautiful.....

Thanks airbourne! Here is a new pic of the 2 year old gelding. He is 16h now and looks like he may go to about 16.2. His owner is pretty in love with this baby boy.

Just found this..
I own Saint Sandro.... and LOVE my Stedinger!!!
Thanks Choco and DTO for the kind words. :)
The shyness does wear off and I have found Saint to be a dream. We just went to a show a few weeks ago where he had to handle the stress of phantom training, and showing all the same week. He was an absolute champ and even with his new "insight" of mares and young raging hormones, was easily controlled and willing to work with alertness and spark, at all times.
I must also throw in a brag and say he WON ALL 5 Classes and was both Champion (81%)and Reserve (79.6) High score horse of the day out of aprox 56 individual horses that day!! You can see pics here ;) :http://www.goldenventurefarm.com/
I would love to breed for another someday... but if not.... I have Saint as my current second favorite pick!! LOL
Good luck with your decision!

"Statesman"...........How bad can Stedinger be????? I bred Statesmans Dam "Weissendra" back for maybe a "Stateswoman"!
I have had two Stedingers so far and they have been very rideable. Good temperaments and exceptional movers.

But how tall are his babies ending up? Statesman? Stedinger looks really big in the confo pic on Judy Yancey's site, but the older babies undersaddle have not seemed that large to me (maybe the riders are tall though...).

As I understand it many finnish quite tall.
From my own personal experience, the 3 yo filly that I bred from a 16.1h mare is now 16.1 and looks finished. The 2 yo gelding from the same mare is 16.1 now and looks like he may go to 16.3. He is very leggy and not at all massive.
