Hi,

I'm trying to decide what stallion to use for my White Star (Weltmeyer) - Donnerschall) mare and fell compleatly in love with the Stallion Dancier ( De Niro - Lancier), so I would be really intrested of hearing about his offsprings?

And another thing with him is that I heard his semen is really bad :(... anyone had any luck with him? Only frozen semen available this year, at least here in Europe, exept Germany offcourse...

Second option would be Blue Hors Hotline, what do you think of him?

Thanks for all the replys :)

We have 2 mares in foal to Dancier, love that stallion, and he has had some lovely babies so far. We used the frozen and got both of our mares in foal first time. However, our vet is one of the top repo vets, and he said that it was just OK. Our 1st is due on May 15, can't wait to see him/her!
I can't comment on Hotline, but there have been quite a few threads on him I think.

I would go with Dancier over Hotline, hands down. While I have seen a handful of really excellent offspring by Hotline, I have seen many underwhelming ones as well and think it is too much of a crapshoot at this point to evaluate him as a sire. I do think it is entirely possible that he is simply not a "foalmaker" and that some of his offspring may be late bloomer types that will prove to be special once under saddle, but personally I would wait a few years to see if that is so given that his foals are not consistently "wow."

FWIW, I did breed to Hotline his first year at stud and my mare did not get in foal in 3 attempts, and then got in foal the next year on the first try / one dose with a different stallion. While it very well may have been my mare that was the issue (the semen *did* look fine), on hindsight I was glad she did not take (despite the fortune I spent trying) because I have been that unimpressed with a number of his babies. For now, if I wanted a Hotline, I would buy one of the very good ones on the ground, but I would breed to another stallion until I can see what his less obviously flashy offspring can do.

Do you have any pictures of your mare? I LOVE White Star! :)

A friend of mine has a gorgeous colt by Hotline. He is black with four socks and a blaze. He is just over a month old and has 3 very nice gaits with a lot of presence. She used one dose frozen and the semen looked very good under the microscope.

I struck out with three doses of Dancier last year. Because I know there have been some successes, I'll try again someday when I feel like gambling.

The Hotline semen is excellent. I have a 2008 colt by Hotline - conceived on 1st cycle - 1 dose. He is a very nice colt, but will be a late bloomer. His temperament is exemplary. His gaits are above adequate, but not as flashy and expressive as my other colts from that year. I think he will blossom under saddle.

A friend has a 2009 Hotline from her very typey and flashy mare. That colt has more pizazz than mine and I think will be a very fancy foal and even fancier riding horse.

I suspect this will be the case with a number of the well-bred Hotline babies; I imagine Hotline himself was only quietly spectacular until he matured.

Thanks for your replys :)
Just wondering in case I'll decide to go with Dancier and have no luck with the semen ; How about De Niro? He has obviously lots of really good offsprings, but how are they on the temperament?

horsechica58 - I really like my mare as well, she has 3 good gates, very elegant in the type and pretty head, but she is quit small. I'll try to put up some pictures soon.

My trainer has had a number of DeNiro youngsters to start. All have had great temperaments - puppy dogs, very willing, eager to please. Heads not always so lovely. Nice gaits, but some could have used a better canter.

Where are you located? If in Europe, you have many choices.

I've only seen Dancier offspring via the big auction videos but I did not like their back legs. It was something I noticed on several different Dancier foals even when I did not know who the sire was.

Hi everyone,

Here is some pictures of my White Star mare;

I hope the link works :)
I think she has goos enough conformation, exept the hocks are a bit straight.
She has 3 good gaits and is nice and sweet to handle, but can be bit spooky and "hot" to ride.

I've been trying to decide wich stallion to use for quite a while know, so really appreciate all the opinions and ideas. I'm looking for a stallion who could improve her rideability and give more elacticity on the gaits. And offcourse the hindquarters could be a bit better.

We are located in Finland, so even though we are in Europe we are pretty much dependent on the frozen semen. If I would take her for example to Germany for insemination it would mean couple of days trip and going over the sea on a boat with the horse. So that not something I would like to do.

I like Dancier, but then I've heard some bad news about his frozen semen. :(
Also Hotline I think is nice, even though I don't think he is as pretty as Dancier. Then again I've been thinking if I should use a bit older stallion who has more offsprings to show.

How about Rubinstein sons? I've heard they have a really good temperament and rideability? I've also still like to hear more about De Niro?

Thanks and Brgds
:)

Weissefee, I know they send fresh Semen e.g. from Station Klatte to sweden so why not to Finland aswell ? Any laws forbidding that ?

Hi Alexandra :)!

They do send fresh semen to finland as well, but when I'm looking at Celles "EU-Frischamen Hengste 2009" list - Dancier is not available.

So if I have understud everything correctly it is possible to get fresh semen here as well as long as it comes from "EU aprroved" station, and that narrows down the options a bit... :(

Lovely mare!

I know of someone who got a frozen Dancier baby, but I am pretty sure they use Juan Samper who is one of the worlds best repro vets. I love Dancier myself, got to see him being schooled when we were in Germany and in his stall, lovely horse!

If you are looking for R line with great temperament and rideability, how about Rascalino or Rotspon?? Both have great frozen as well, from what I hear.

I have been thinking about Rotspon, Rascalino or Royal Blend as well... Though at this point I've been thinking most of the stallions available... :D

Any one know if there is any videos available in the internet for those stallions?
I found Rotspon video on horse-gate.com, but that is pretty old video.

Rotspon offspring I've seen have quite short legs and are pretty heavy in the type, might be the mares side too though, any opinions?

I would like to hear more opinions about Hotline, oldes offsprings must be around 3 now, any good ones? And how is their temperament?

Thanks again!

:) Brgds

Beautiful mare! :D

If you are looking at "R" stallions I would definitely recommend Rascalino.

Klaus and Inge Kuhn bred a fabulous filly by Rascalino, who I had the pleasure of seeing a few years ago.

If you look in the lower right corner there is a picture of her under the "Our Broodmares" column. Her name is "Richenza" :)

I have had Rotspon and Rascalinos and have friends with foals from both, too. From what I have seen, on the whole I prefer Rascalino.

My Hotline is 16 months old. He is out of a Rohdiamant mare with a sweet, easy yet sensitive temperament. The Hotline is very easy, willing to do whatever, simple to handle, yet fairly sensitive in a nice way.

I used to own a Bon Bonaparte mare whose maternal grand-dam was White Star's mother. She had a simply wonderful Regazzoni colt that I believe was the best she has produced to date.

Interestingly, one of my homebreds was in Finland for a few years. I had sold her to a Finnish lady who lived in Texas. When the lady returned to Finland for several years Destinie went with her. Last year when the lady returned to the US, Destinie made the trip back across the pond. Small world.

Your mare is very lovely - and looks quite refined.
I had a Hotline in 2007, and will probably breed the mare (by Don Bosco) back again this year. She is a very "pretty" mare, with almost full TB on the mare line (SPS Prince Orac xx / SPS Shogun xx). Hotline added wonderful movement. The mare gave prettiness. Good tempered filly.

Still can't make up my mind...
The Rascalino youngster looks really nice and they have one very noce young stallion in Sweden by Rascalino. I haven't been able to find much information about Rascalinos maternal grandfather Velten Third, anyone can help me with this?

I would also like to hear opinions about Royal Blend (Rotspon-Lauries Crusador xx-Grande) ? Anyone seen him or know any offspring?

Also the hotline foals look really nice :) ... I really hope I could make up my mind soon.

Thanks again for everyone for your great help and opinions!

I have bred to both Hotline (she is 2 this year) and 3 times to Rascalino (oldest 3). Have seen MANY offspring as well and also from Dancier. The Dancier were all small (one that my friend bred was just gelded for that reason). Rascalino and Dancier need a little leggier mares, whereas Hotline almost always makes super leggy and tall.

For your mare, of the 3, I would choose Hotline. Royal Blend has dissapeard off the radar I think....only seen a few foals from his first foal crop.

Best of luck, Linda

I bred my Hohenstein filly to Dancier last week, and my vet said the semen was fine. It was approximately 60% motility, but he did say Dancier was not a stallion for which he felt he could split a dose. I got the semen from Superior Equine Sires and had a very good experience working with Carol there.

I agree with Linda to go with Hotline. I have seen quite a few now in Germany. They are pretty as they matur and super under saddle. The riders are loving them!

That is so good to hear. I have been loving my own Hotline more and more as he has grown up. He's two now and really starting to come together. He is tall, has really good substance and the nicest character. I can hardly wait to see him go under saddle next year.

What people are saying in Germany is that they look good, but not outstanding in hand and free, and then you put the rider on them, and they go like clockwork. So easy to start with super rhythm and feeling. The ones I have seen went from being "ok" at 2 and a half to quite something at 3 under saddle.

Very cool to hear, Marnie. And from what I am seeing with my big baby boy, not too surprising. Patience makes for a big return perhaps?
