Hi All...
I was just wondering who all is going to the Gayla CDE this year...
This will be my first time going and I hear it is a wonderful place. I will be competing in Preliminary single pony with my four year old Welsh Pony.
I hope to maybe see some of you there???:D

I'm not going this year because I'm organizer for our event which is the next weekend but you are right, it is a great place.
The dressage arena is beautiful with blooming iris around it. The hazards are wonderful and varied with many open routes or tight ones which every you desire. The countryside is beautiful and rolling. Training is a shorter, flatter marathon course but Prelim has some hills.
The staff is great, very helpful and friendly.
Prelim single pony was so big last year they split it.
Just a little surprised you are taking a 4 yr old prelim.

Thanks For the info!
We are being very careful with him, but he is coming along so quickly, we moved him up to Prelim last month. He has done two Prelim's, and won them both!

I'm volunteering. We had lovely weather the last two years but this year is looking a tad rainy. Be prepared for anything!

The farm has a site but it doesn't usually have up to date information about the show.

Updating a website a week before the show is probably pretty low on the "to-do" list :) :D

This Saturday and Sunday, May 16/17.
I won't be getting another horse for a good long time, if ever. I refuse to board any more and I'm married to a confirmed "city boy". Alas, it appears my horse owning days are behind me. :( Thanks anyway. One place to advertise the horse would be the Spokes and Spurs Newsletter. Go to their website (http://www.spokesandspurs.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=1) for contact info.

Sorry, a little OT... Hitch, do you know who put together the montage of members? First time I've seen it. Oh my gosh, the memories... some dear faces there who are no longer with us. Beautifully done.

No stories or results yet?????
I'm in WNC and we had huge storms yesterday evening and night. I'm hoping they didn't get them. As beautiful as that farm is, as much rain as we had last night will make it a mess. I drove the Gayla several years ago when they had 6 inches of rain that week and I wasn't sure I would ever dry out or the farm would ever recover.

I didn't stick around for the awards ceremony, but I can report that the storms stayed away on Saturday save for a very brief shower resulting in a 20 minute delay. Marathon day was cool, windy, and sunny, which was great for the horses.
From our obstacle we could see across the hill to a couple of tracks where the horses had long trot runs. The tall grass was waving in the wind and it was simply beautiful to watch. Absolutely gorgeous.
A wonderful weekend.

What a wonderful weekend it was....nice cool weather.....and in spite of the rain....I didn't get any mud on my shoes...meaning....it didn't hurt the show much at all. For a moment Saturday morning while covering dressage I was sure it was going to be a very wet day...but to my surpise....it was just a little overcast.. Met lots of wonderful new people and was glad to see old friends. Hopefully many of you will be at the Natl. Drive in Oct. For those that have not been...it is most wonderful and this year will be a day longer.

Hitch--I think I volunteered with you.
I was a timer. My husband came along and helped out. He really enjoyed himself and was telling everyone that "I" talked him into being my navigator (when we finally get to do a CDE). We were looking at carriages in the indoor and he was like "we should go ahead and buy one."
I think if the two driving candidates in my barn don't work out, I may have to go buy him a Fjord.
Lovely weekend, very cold on Sunday.

Yep, that was me. I'm working hard on committing your names to memory - a Herculean effort for me, the most forgetful of the forgetful.
It was indeed cold most of Sunday. At least I got to take shelter from the wind behind a tree. You guys were right in the teeth of it.
Hope I wasn't too bossy. I had never judged an obstacle before and between trying not to lose papers in the wind, trying not to freeze, and that darned paper cut that bled for HOURS (I bet the scorers are still trying to figure out who got murdered at Obstacle #7  ), I was a bit of a nervous wreck. Sorry!
Did you get some pizza, or wasn't it set out by the time you left?
I just loved seeing the huge variety of horses. And I looked up what a "Trottingbred" is and it is definitely a breed! (http://www.trottingbredhorse.com/)You learn something new every day!

I didn't think you were bossy at all. :)
We decided to leave before the pizza. I was really tired, and when I got home I accidentally fell asleep on the couch until 8:30!
My husband has some serious windburn too. Looks like a stawberry!

Bob, I was just browsing your Gayla gallery and noticed how the water quality in the water hazard changed as the day went on.
