You know you're a horse board addict when ...
1. You lose sleep over horse boards. If you're staying up late at night because you're on horse boards, and you're tired the next day, horse boards may be a compulsion for you. You shouldn't be neglecting yourself because of horse boards.
2. You spend more than an hour a day on horse boards. It's hard to pinpoint exactly how much time is too much time to be spending on social networking. Does anyone really need more than an hour a day on horse boards? Probably no one needs more than 30 minutes.
3. You become obsessed with being the center of attention. Sharing things about yourself is one of the great attractions of the boards. There's nothing necessarily wrong with sharing, but it can get out of hand very quickly.
4. You ignore work in favor of horse boards. If you're not doing your job in order to sneak time on horse boards, you could have a real problem.
5. The thought of getting off horse boards leaves you in a cold sweat. Try going a day without horse boards. If you find it causes you a lot of stress and anxiety, you really need to get some help.
Which ones do you have? (I had #2 & #4 until work firewalled everything but news, weather & tech sites :uhoh:)
What other signs of addiction can you think of?! :D

I have 1 and 2. I do kind of get panicked over those large threads where I'm gone for like an hour and come back and there's four new pages  Then I'm like I missed something!

You know you're addicted when you're falling asleep sitting up but you don't want to shut off the computer just yet in case someone else replies to that interesting thread...

You know you're addicted to horse boards when you don't have time to reply to emails from co-workers or family members, but you did seem to have time to catch up on the threads you've been following.
Arcadien,
guilty of 1,2,4,5, above, etc, etc.... (sigh) time for bed now Arcadien!

basically in the old days Usenet dominated the "internet"....there were no pics except in the binary newsgroups so everyone had only their typing wit or lack of, to participate in things....
I found this link in about 1993...and it has remained one of my favorites....it gives cartoon faces and standardized definitions to the most common types of posters online...and it is pretty hysterical
the definition of God:
In the beginning, before bandwidth, there was nothingness. Out of that endless void God and His heavenly host created...Arpanet, and it was good. But the scientific, military and computer angels Who dwelled in Arpanet were lonely, so They brought forth Browser, and the Web was born. It, too, was good and the children of the internet lived in peace and harmony and were fruitful and multiplied, but God warned His people not to eat of the forbidden fruit of commercialism. Alas, they disobeyed and soon barbarians drove the children of the internet out of Paradise. God, in His wrath, turned away from His people and condemned them to wander in the digital wilderness, but from time to time He will suddenly appear in mailing lists, chat rooms and discussion forums to remind us sinners that we could be saved if only we would hearken unto Him.

Do I need to start saving stamps to purchase a Life or what?

...you use board specific terminology (aghasted, jingles, BNT, BO, magikal etc) in everyday conversation.

For the longest time AOL refused to connect to the Internet, and so was the biggest "SP" that was NOT an "ISP". They figured that they (AOL) had all the content anyone would ever need. If you wanted to connect to the Internet, you had to use someone other than AOL.

Sigh, I guess I'm the only one who remembers pre-AOL days when you were stuck with Compuserve ;)
From Compuserve boards, to AOL boards, to usenet, to this. The characters remain the same, but the usability sure has improved!
(referring back to the OP- I realized that I'm addicted to my HORSE! I stay up nights thinking about him, I spend time at the barn I should be using to do other things, I spend far too much money on him... ah, well, I don't feel like quitting so I guess I'm stuck!)

I stand corrected
No wonder their software embedded itself in your PC and was impossible to get rid of...

Reading BBs for me is like reading my morning paper. I use to have my breakfast with an actual newspaper, then I started watching TV news, and finally I "graduated" to reading BBs and blogs with my morning tea. I seem to like reading about horses more than to listen to the general news. I made a few great web friends with whom we hit even more once we met in person. I don't think that I would off meet them otherwise and I enjoy our friendships so much.

There are several of us here who go back to Usenet in the pre-dial up days, when the only way you had access was through a company or institution that was part of ARPANET.

Just #2... but then again, it depends on the day. Today, an hour, yesterday, like 5 minutes.
