We have a listing of some wonderful groups at www.SpecialHorses.org. If there is any way we can help you facilitate donations to a 501(c)3 equine organization, we'd be happy to help!

These lists become inaccurate quickly with new rescues opening and old ones closing and some we discover are not legitimate but claim to be saving horses but on Monday the horses they "rescued" Sunday are at the New Holland auction.

I don't know why you're looking but just keep in mind that not all rescues are created equal. Can you tell us what the central location is that you need to find a rescue?

You can go to this link, which is the IRS website home page:

www.irs.gov

and click on "charities" to search on all charities that are recognized by the IRS.

This link takes you directly to the charities search page:

http://www.irs.gov/app/pub-78/

You can search for the organization by
(1) organization name (or word[s] in the name);
(2) location;
(3) deductibility code.

If you search for all organizations with the word "horse" in their name, you find 876 organizations include the word “horse” in their name. The link

http://www.irs.gov/app/pub-78/search.do?nameSearchTypeStarts=false&names=horse&nameSearchTypeAll=false&city=&state=All...&country=USA&deductibility=all&dispatchMethod=search&submitName=Search

will take you to the list of all charities with "horse" included in their name.

This list IS kept up-to-date by the federal government and this list is the ultimate authority as to whether an organization is a charity or not.

Edited to add: the list of charities includes the city & state where the charity is located.

Can I shamelessly plug my own foundation, Brennan Equine Welfare Fund? :winkgrin: http://www.geocities.com/brennanequinewelfarefund/webpage.html

In addition, Bloodhorse Publications' "The Horse Source"- has a listing that you can search by state. http://www.thehorse.com/source/thehorse/

How about a source like the IRS list for equestrian charities around the world. Can anyone help with this question ?

That is quite a list the IRS has. Anyway to actually link to those charities, via another data base ?
Or by state ? That would be helpful. Appreciate any assistance. KO

But anyone who wants to look you up on the IRS list can look you up by your actual name. I just gave searching by using the word "horse" as an example - actually that search results in finding some charities that are not actually equine charities but do have the word "horse" in their name.

I don't know of any world-wide list but perhaps someone else does. Please remember, though, that you can NOT deduct contributions on your tax return unless a charity is on the IRS list - doesn't matter how good or reputable they are, they have to be on that list or no deduction.

The only way I know to link to charities on the IRS list is to search for them & see if they have a website. The IRS list does tell you where they are located (city & state) & the IRS site lets you search by location so you could narrow it down that way & then use an internet search engine to help you get more information, such as how to contact the charity you are interested in.
