Just got back from dropping off our three year old at Cornell-- pretty nasty laceration to the RF fetlock, undetermined yet whether the joint is compromised. Unknown pasture incident this afternoon, discovered upon bringing them in.

Had to leave her at Cornell without seeing the surgeon, who was handling a colic. Jingles, too, for that horse; I'm sure her person would appreciate them.

Here's Jammin' Gem: http://www.flickr.com/photos/foxwinfarm/sets/72157604881329145/

She is, fortunately, her father's daughter, strong, stoic, and calm through her first trailer ride ever over the back roads of upstate NY, in the dark, in pain. She's a trooper. Jingle for her, please.

Cornell called with the good news that they were able to suture the flap back down, and the joint capsule was not broken—just an ugly, ugly flesh wound in a stinkin' place.

Greatest danger over the next 24-48 hours is infection, so they’re keeping her for the weekend.

Cautious optimism all around.

Gem’s probably up there stealing hearts right about now…keep those jingles coming...

Thanks, guys-- so far the jingles are working for our Gemmy-Gem. Our vet checked in and liked what he heard from Cornell. Cornell called again with no real news to report, but continued guarded optimism and the report that they're antibiotic-ing like mad, so we shouldn't have a germy-Gem.

More news when there is news, but thanks for the support!

Gem got to come home today. She's doing well, but has a lengthy recovery ahead-- daily bandage changes, complete stall rest for several weeks (with light hand walking allowed if necessary to keep her from going batty...she's a Morgan...what do you think? ;) )

Her only hesitation was at emerging from the air-conditioned hospital to today's 95-degree heat...she sort of looked around and indicated she'd rather be back inside where it was cool...

Upon arrival back home, she was greeted with the exhuberant whinnies and racing around of all her family...14 horses have been looking for her for two and a half days!

Thanks for the jingles...keep a slight tinkle going for her as we work hard to heal!
