There are some sick individuals out there.
This actually happened up here where we live! Makes me sick to think this stuff happens anywhere, much less this close to home.

Truth is stranger than fiction, unfortunately, as people said the scene from the Godfather was absurd.
Too many people killing their animals in inhumane ways. Is animal cruelty a felony in Calif.?

Isn't this about the time someone should step up and say that if slaughter were legal he wouldn't have had to chainsaw up his horse to feed to his dog? :D

Y'know, I have no trouble with the idea of a horse being fed to dogs (foxhunters fed to the hounds is traditional), but the fact that this lowlife beat the animal senseless then decapitated it without even knowing it was dead first? Beyond disgusting. :dead:
Euthing by bullet then feeding to foxhounds is fine. Beating a horse with a sledgehammer, then using a chainsaw to cut off its head is nowhere in the universe of fine!

Just got off the phone from a friend of mine and apparently, after he was arrested, there was a flurry of activity from other people here in town to rescue the rest of his animals from his property.
I have no idea where any of them went, and apparently Animal Control has been trying to locate them since then.
I don't know why they didn't wait of animal control, but from what I'm hearing over 100 animals were "adopted" by people around here so they didn't go to shelters that are already overcrowded.
He was definitely a "hoarder". He had goats, pigs, peacocks, horses, dogs, chickens and cats.

For some reason all the female ones look the same. Long limp hair, round face, vacuous expression. Often wearing a soiled and stretched T-shirt.
Really. It's actually a little creepy.

A little? Sicko.
While reading I realize that an animal cruelty sentence is really pretty short- 4 years?
If convicted the creep will probably still make it out before he dies.

That story just makes my stomach turn. Where do these lunatics come from??? That poor horse...what a cruel and horrible way to go. This is one of those instances when the punishment will never fit the crime, but it should.

Hopefully he'll go to prison and word will get out what he's in for.
From what I understand, most of the prison population doesnt' take kindly to child molesters and animal abusers.
This gem of human flesh may not make it out of prison alive. We can only hope.

I wonder if he's related to the older man here in Portland Oregon who beat his elderly Golden Retriever with a hammer and half buried her in the backyard because they "couldn't afford" to have her euthanized at a vet. The neighbors heard her crying and unburied her, called the cops who took the dog to the vet and had her put down. He was arrested and is serving time for his crime. Oregon has good laws!

sketcher, actually in almost all states it already is legal to butcher your own horse for dog food. Its done a lot more then people realize especially now with free and cheap horses. Many kennels here use what ever species is cheal or free.

I don't think the issue of horse meat is the issue here county.. it's the manner in which the horse was brutally killed. Using a hammer is NOT an acceptable form of euthanasia.

CA does have felony animal cruelty. I work with a non-profit organization that helps our local AC and DA prosecute horse cruelty cases. We just helped get the first felony animal cruelty conviction resulting in jail time in the county's history. Making progress for horses' rights in CA!

The story about the horse is appalling and disturbing, but this hit me harder than the horse story. I may cry. :(
Let's just hope that somehow, the horse was killed after the first blow with the hammer and never felt anything else.

Believe me, the dog burying story was front page/headline news for days here in PDX!! It was appalling, and many, many people were deeply upset. The saddest part? She had been their family pet for something like 12 years, and they said they were embarrassed that she was in such ill health and didn't want to go to a vet and appear to be BAD OWNERS!! Granted, it costs $75+ to put down a large dog, but they also claimed they couldn't find a way to pay for it. It still makes me angry-- call around, be responsible. You fed and cared for her for that long, but couldn't do the right thing at the end?? My vet has never charged me for euthanizing my dogs. Ever. It is a service they provide at the end of a dog/cat's life. I like my vet.

Effing BS. They could have taken the dog to the shelter for free. People like that should be taken out back and shot. Effing cowards is what they are.
The other pathetic excuse for a human being also need to be taken about back and shot. I'm getting sick of this "hoarding" thing. Seems like anyone who abuses more than one animal is a "hoarder" and they're practically getting a free pass to go out and keep doing it.
When I rule the world.. things will be different.

Any sane vet will put down a sick animal, regardless of the owner's ability to pay.
