HuntJumpSC, don't you live near Conway? Are you OK?

And Paint Misbehavin, aren't you in Dumont? Or Duford or someplace close to Myrtle Beach? Are you OK?

Those in and around North Myrtle Beach, let us know if you are ok.

Whoa wait what? I live in SC, and granted its 3 days before finals and I'm cramming beyond end and nothing outside the library exists but did I miss something? Weather has been gorgeous here in Clemson.

Turn on your tv. Raging wildfires near Myrtle Beach, 69 or more houses burned down.

I am in Aiken Co. and all is well here. If anyone needs a place to evacuate there are literally hundreds of empty stalls here since the winter colony has left.

and OK. The wildfires started onthe other side of Conway, so none of our properties are in the path. I work for the county and it's been nuts around here. In addition to the wildfires, the county administrator (my boss), had to leave that afternoon when they started for a family emergency out of town. Unfortunately, his father passed last lite and it's unknown when he'll be back. Our public safety director has been left in charge and he's done a great job.
There have been quite a few horses in the path of the wildfire, including one stable that evacuated 39 horses, but not sure who it was. Amazingly, no lives have been lost. But so far, 69 homes are completely gone, and over 100 severely damaged. It all started with some idiot in a subdivision burning trash in his backyard with winds gusting up to 30 mph. He's been ticketed, but name has not been released.

As of now, the fire is only 50% contained and they expect flare-ups today as the wind picks up again.

Glad you are safe! Our crayola posse pilot needs to be careful.
Wish it would rain up there for you.

I'm concerned about Catersun. She lives in or near Myrtle Beach.

Hoping she (and everyone else) is ok.

We're all fine at my farm, thanks.:) I'm about twenty-five miles or so from the fires. I can't remember exactly where Catersun lives - but if it's where I think, she should be ok.

I heard on the radio that Anderson Stables near Conway was taking in some equine refugees. I know of a half-dozen or so at-home horses who have moved to boarding stables farther inland. I've called everybody I know in the danger zone to tell them they can stash some horses in my fenced fields - I don't have shelter for them but we're not supposed to get rain for a week and it's not that hot yet.

I can't imagine how many pets have died or been lost during this fire. Some folks were awakened by a pounding on their door at 2 am and looked out at 100 foot flames in their backyards. One woman didn't even have time to put on her shoes. Several people on TV have said they couldn't find their dogs and/or cats in the smoke and darkness and couldn't stay to look around for them.

It is not uncommon for fires to "get away from" people in Horry County. Last year a dozen or so homes were lost the exact same way. See, most of the county doesn't have trash pick-up. We do, however, have the most wonderful recycling centers you've ever seen - but apparently it's just beyond some folks to use them. Lots and lots of people burn their trash. And don't seem to care a bit whether or not it's too dry or too windy when they do it.

The guy who started last year's fire got a pass. I hope they stick whoever started this one up under the jailhouse and maybe it will motivate a few incendiary morons to change their habits.

Hey- we are ok here. The fire started about 10 miles from us and moved in the opposite direction. We heard about it shortly after it started.

Hunt which stable evac'd?

who started the fire....get this: Torchi. WTF!!!??? I kid you not!

Catersun~ I'm still not 100% certain whose barn it was, but I'm thinking it may have been Meadowchase off of Yawnoc, which is close to where the fire initially started. They had alot of trouble there and at International Drive. Until I can call some people tonite I won't know for sure. Glad you are ok!
