i am just thrilled right now! Grinning from Ear to ear!

My greenie had pretty much the whole winter off. Big mistake! For a good solid 3 months we did not have one ride I would consider good. We slowly improved, but I wouldn't consider it good. It was getting very frustrating and seemed like we would never get out of that baby nonsense. Every ride was filled with explosions, kicking out, rears, tail swishung' head tossing, you name it! Then, in the blink of an eye, its all behind us!

It seemed to have happened over night! My ride today has summed up all the hard, tiresome hours I have put in since January. My baby greenie finally had a clean, solid ride that did not have ONE "moment"! I honestly didn't think I'd see the day! But he is finally growing up and behaving! I was in tears at the end of my ride today, I was so happy!

We took a bad fall last September, and since then I was struggling with jumping him. I was fine on any other horse, it was only him. Today I was able to let it all go and really trust him 100%. It was so nice and relieving to do! I have finally found a bit he is happy about, just a plain old hollow loose ring snaffle, and it just totally solved the remainder of our problems. We are finally both really enjoying eachother again!

So who else is with me? Is this springtime weather chasing the green out of your greenie too?!

Not mine, but the girl I board with got a new guy over the winter and couldn't work with him much -- the first time we did this spring, she came off him several times, he wouldn't lunge, move forward willingly, anything.

Today however, she tacked him up with no issues. He lunged like a champ. She hopped on and had a beautiful walk and trot....asked for the canter (which he's still not comfortable at...) and he picked it up perfectly, lead and all!

Of course, he *did* throw in a single buck at the end, but I think it was more out of feeling good than throwing a fit ;)

I love the days that make riding totally worth it! I hope EVERYONE is having them with this beautiful weather!

I am having a great time with my greenie at the moment. Coming into winter here, so days are shorter, but he's getting worked about 4x / week. He's getting wooly now - will have to clip him sometime. I love the young horses. Each day I make some progress, each day is better than the one before. He's only 4, so heaps of time. Now I just need a saddle which fits his wide shoulders, long wither and short back!

That's great to hear Fleur.

I don't think I could call mine a greenie anymore, because he will be 12 at the end of March. But he is certainly goofy and he had a VERY light work winter because he is foul in the indoor and I had to focus on sales for our business. Getting him back to jumping has been... err... exciting, because he really is tired of this flatwork business. Lots of squealing and other freshness. We showed for the first time this weekend and it took everything I had to not let him blow apart into a fit of bucking.

I want my summer horse back now, thanks:yes:

I'm so glad that I saw this post today...I have been having many issues with my greenie, many the same as yours. There is hope.:D I have been very frustated with it all, and am glad to know that I'm not alone.

I know mine can behave as she was at the trainers for 2 months and did wonderfully, but that was in an indoor, now that we are outside, there are a lot of new things, so see and look at, hear, smell etc.

Im glad I am not alone in having all this enjoyment!

We shall see how good he is today .. this morning was jump decorating time:lol: i now have a balloon jump:eek: consisting of balloons tied to a pole that is my "filler" under the top pole, as well as balloons tied all over the standards. Another jump is my Hawaiian jump with a grass skirt as the filler, sparkly palm trees as the standards and blow up fish taped to the grass skirt. Hahaha boy is this going to be fun. He is turned out in the ring with them now so he can get over the fact that it all will not come to life.

I am so trying to get photos of this today for you guys!

feel free to post away with your not-so-baby-green photos!:D
