View Full Version : For the "fluffy" riders, Breeches that HIDE

Okay, so I had knee surgery last year. Used to look halfway okay in breeches. Now, however I DO NOT. I am totally disgusted with myself,a nd yes, now I am back to riding, I am starting to lose weight, but it sure isnt' flying off either.
I am going crazy here. I have been riding in my winter breeches, with the fleece and top layer, they do a lot of "hiding" of the bum wiggle. But, it is clearly getting too warm for them anymore and my summer breeches from last year don't fit anyway, so I have to buy a pair or two, even if they are used, in size 34.
Which brand won't break my bank, but will keep everything contained and looking halfway acceptable out in public?

'halfway ok' for WHAT? A Miss America pageant? You have any plans on competing in that?
Guess what? Most people in this country over the age of 20 are NOT Miss America types. I don't even WORRY about what I look like to someone else's skewed idea of sensibility. Who CARES? You really shouldn't as long as you're clean and not stinky.
Don't worry about not looking 'perfect' even if you have to be around teenie boppers who wear size -3s :D You are NOT one of those (I'm gathering from your posts)....don't try to be one.
It just doesn't matter. Remember that bible thingy "let he without sin cast the first stone"? People oughta live that one more.....
Accept yourself, and don't worry about what other people think so much.

I agree with Melelio... screw what everyone else thinks. If they fit and they're comfortable, go for it.
I had gastric bypass surgery 2 1/2 years ago and lost 120 lbs. I've always been pear-shaped, but now I'm REALLY pear-shaped-- my thighs are enormous, and it's all loose skin. There isn't a pair of breeches on Planet Earth that's going to make these legs of mine look svelte and smooth. I'd be a perfect candidate for plastic surgery to remove the excess skin, but that would mean making a big incision down the inner thigh, and I've heard it's a b*tch to heal from... and there's no way I want to be out of commission from riding for that long-- not when I fought this hard to even just be ABLE to ride again.
So my legs look awful in breeches. Big flippin' deal... I'd rather have cottage-cheese legs while out riding my wonderful OTTB on a long trail ride on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon than to be 300+ lbs. again and sitting on the sofa watching TV because I didn't have the energy to do anything else.

Size up so that the fabric does not cling. Take to a tailor to nip the waist if needed. You know, the breeches will be a bit loose which IMO, looks better in the summer fabrics. I think smart pak sells a breech that goes up to a 36.

I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to find a pair of breeches that are semi flattering. If you are wearing a pair that you feel good in, I know I would be able to concentrate more on the task at hand than worrying about cellulite.
That being said...I just bought a pair of the Tuffrider ribbed low rise breeches from Stateline Tack. With shipping, total was around $42 for one pair. They are made out of spandex and some other material, no cotton, but were sufficiently thin enough to be cool on the 95 degree Sunday we had last week. I also felt that they were slimming and flattering, although I did notice little rib marks on the saddle after I rode. I got a 32 in black regular length (I'm 5'7 and they were just the right length), but I know they also have 34.

Get a pair of the new Spartpak equivalent to Spanx to wear underneath, they are fabulous and smooth over a multitude of sins. They are called SmartSlim.

Hey, after the recent post bashing "cottage cheese thighs" and all, I am trying to look semi acceptable to the thin and svelte public. I used to fit a size 28 breeches, before surgery, so the 34 is actually a size or two above, I think I could get away with 32's, but dont' want to be too smooshed into a pair. Some good suggestions, now I am going to hit Ebay and also maybe the new Horseloverz free shipping deal, and see if I can find anything heavier duty. (thinking tights are not going to cut it with this fluffy figure)
I had thought about the Spanx and just heard about the new Smartpak equivilant. I might give those a try, as well.

CNVH, you rock. Keep riding, sister!
OP Trainers' Choice, knee patch Renee, or Rachel, full seats. If you special order (no extra cost), you can get a really nice chocolate color.

Now Spanx under breeches is like having an ass sauna.
I have one of their bras. Holds my ribs rigid. Doesn't help with breathing at all.
Any sightings of your new bling on the horse?
Have you had a chance to ride in it?

Have you had a chance to ride in it?The saddle arrived yesterday, the breastplate with it, the pad and cinch are on the way. So no ride in it until it's all here sometime next week.
As for the Sauna Bra, try a Wacoal minimizer. Not the totally plain ones, since those stretch out pretty fast. No sweat, no Uniboob, no protruding badonkadonks.

I like the more woven fabrics to hide, uh, fluffy spots. I'm a curvy girl (unfortunately, one of my major curves is my belly) and the cotton-y ones just accentuate. I love my Ariats - they fit my curves and don't cling too badly.
On a side note about Spanks (waiting on my SmartSlim to get here) - the Hanes brand ones are half the price and work just as well. Unfortunately, they're just as hot. Keep the Anti-Monkey Butt Powder handy :)

Nothing wrong with wanting to look as good as possible, even if you're wearing a type of garment that isn't terribly flattering to anyone.
I like Trainers' Choice, too. Not sure what ones I have. They were gifted to me. :)
I also like Kerrits Microcords. The ribbed fabric hides a multitude of sins. They're pull-on, though, and run a little small. I wear a 28 or 30 and the mediums are pretty snug on me. You can find them on eBay pretty frequently for ~$60.

Yes, I have a dark green pair that almost offers support. They're On Course though. I like all their breeches. The fabric seems thicker. They last forever for me.

A manufacturer has just come out with a line of breeches that have a lining built in so one doesn't have to wear nylons or spanx or whatever underneath.
I can't remember if I saw them in a catalog or online, but will poke around and see if I can find them again.

Smart Pak now has Smart Slim which is their take on Spanks and they are really comfy and do make everything look firmer. They are only $20 , I like them. :)

I wear a size 12-14 so I am not a skinny chick. I love the irideon cadence breeches. They hide a good deal of "junk" especially in the darker colors. They can get a little hot. I would love to find some summer weight breeches that work as well.
