They have a stallion listed as a roan Trakehner? Do Trakehners actually come in roan? All the ones I can remember seeing are darker solid colors, like bays, chestnuts, and blacks. I have also seen a few grays. I wasn't aware they come in more 'exotic' colors and I wanted to ask some of the experts on the forum about them.

That blue roan sold to England. I still own his sister Salomé who is also a blue roan. She is 17 hh at present and maybe growing to 17.1 hh. Her brother was 16.1 hh. Salomé is actually in foal to Hirtentanz who is recently the No 1 Trakehner sporthorse stallion.
The roan color was coming from the Insterfeuer line. Almost extinct as most people thought it to be grey and have not bred on for the color and rather dark colors to avoid the grey. So there are only a handful roan Trakehners left in the world today.

The Trak stallion Bukephalos was roan.

Yes, the Roan line is very small though. Gestuet Falkenhorst has another one
http://www.gestuet-falkenhorst.de/gftkmares.html (Salome). I can't find that Sylver stallion listed on the Trak Verband site though, so can't see if he's of the same line. Given that GF's horse is out of Syleika by Sans Souci, there's probably a good chance the S names are related. I may be way off though :D

Really? That's sad, but fascinating. I never knew they came in roan before. How many roans are left?
Is Insterfeuer the only known source of roan in Trakehners?

LOL, I was typing and looking while you were posting - so they ARE related, cool :)

I own a 6 year old great granddaughter of Bukephalos who is most definetly grey...or at least I thought so....she does have some "blue" tinged areas that are not turning white as she is aging. We always thought this odd and no one could quite put a finger on it....I don't know equine genetics that well but now I wonder if this could possibly be something she has inherited from the sire side even three generations back.

Roan doesn't hide. If neither parent was Roan, then you are right on the gray.

Here's a German site about them. They are beautiful aren't they?

I have a great-granddaughter of Bukephalos.
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/summer2
She is quite colorful but not roan.
She looks just like her sire, Itaxerxes, except for one solid leg.
Her dam line is related to the colorful German stallion, Sedar.
Any ideas for a stallion for her to use her color genetics?

Here is the new site of those Trakehner Roans:
http://www.trakehner-roans.de/index.html
There seems only left what is on that page.
The roan stallion was not approved.

Thank you for the information and the site. It's sad that the stallion didn't get approved. He seems to be the only living male roan in the breed?

Yes actually he was, but quality is more important than being just roan and a last maybe. There are some few mares and with good matches there maybe one in a few years to come that will be approved.

That is very true. I'm not suggesting they should have let him be approved simply because he was a rare color. I was just regretting the fact that his genetics will be lost to approved Trakehners, though its good he has a full sister who can carry on the line.

The picture linked at All Breed doesn't work, and when I try to go to where the photo is located (http://www.oakhollowstable.com/images/Sara.jpg) is says "This account has been suspended. Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible."
I get the same message when I try to go to your homepage.

The web site should be back up soon. I sent payment for hosting from the bank to PayPal and and to Voda Host and it takes a few days. Thanks for looking.

My web site has been reinstated.
You can find a photo or two of my Itaxerxes daughter under the name Summer in the Mares section.

Bukephalos was a gorgeous stallion. What a pretty color also. I didn't know about the Roan Trakehners.
