What is your favorite brand/style of schooling gloves for summer? I'm looking for a pair that's relatively thin, comfortable, not super pricey, and will last for more than a few wearings.

Thanks!

I LOVE ariat gloves for the fit, though for the price, the two pairs i've had havent lasted real long (maybe 2 months?). I end up with the crochet back ones with the velcro at the wrist. The only issue i have with them is that 1-my black ones, the black leather palm stains my hands... 2-the leather seems to get holes in it from stretching i guess? I dont find them hot or sweaty though. For $13 and they last me a few months, i cant really beat that.

I had a pair of Roekls or however you spell that. A friend got them for me in Germany cheap several years ago. They were thin and felt very nice, but for the $40 something they sell for in the US and i dont think they lasted me 3-4 months... Probably not worth it.

And no, its not like i kill my gloves! lol. I ride 2 horses a day, 5 days a week, i put them on right before i get on, and right when i get off... I dont know why they cant last longer than that!

The SSG All weather gloves always seem to come unstitched at the seams, and i find are hotter in the summer...

roekls

I'm really careful and only use them when I RIDE (then groom and do barn chores with an old pair) so they hold up if I'm careful.

Best riding gloves I've ever had were a present from a Canadian friend. They are yellow leather made by Watsons and have been used regularly for over a year now and are still going strong. Fantastic fit and excellent quality.

Roeckl gloves fit well but they don't last 5 minutes which is a complaint I have about all the fake leather gloves. I also dislike crochet backed gloves because they get filthy and you cannot clean them. After wearing out several pairs of white Roeckl competition gloves I eventually bought a pair of white leather ones off e-bay and they are great and wearing very well with just as good a fit and feel as the Roeckls. I ride at PSG and use double reins so I'm really fussy about the fit of my gloves!

I particularly like these SSGs because they are thin, but wear very well.

MacWet gloves are seriously worth the try, and are great for summer riding. They are very light weight so you can tack up with them on a be able to do the buckles, but they wear really well and are completely washable!

They are very grippy and actually pull persiration from your hands or the air to increase their grip, but don't "feel" wet. To the best of my knowledge, they are very popular in Europe and have only recently come to the U.S.

I have a pair for schooling in the Green color, but they also have white and black so you can show in them if you like.

Easy Care Ride 'N Wash Glove:

Really thin and comfy but grippy - better than the Roeckl (which cost twice as much and started falling apart apart after a couple months). I've worn the same pair since last summer and they're just now starting to get hole worn in the finger.

I just bought three more pairs, two black and I also found them in brown for $10.95, here:

I really like the Ariat gloves. I have a really light (mesh backed) pair for summer, and they are very comfy and light.

I think the secret to making gloves last longer is go get them in a slightly loose size. I have found that if I get a pair that fits exactly they do not last long, they get small holes in the "leather" and generally do not wear. I think the materials used just cannot withstand being stretched over the hand and being rubbed, sweated, etc. I buy a 1/2 size larger, and goves last a long time. I also wash the Ariats frequently (they are not leather, but really grippy anyway).

For schooling, I get thin deerskin gloves from the Gardening section at Loew's.
They are about $10 and hold up really well. I even throw them in the washer
with my deerskin seat breeches. I do NOT miss the extra layer of fabric
in the reinforced areas of real riding gloves. The gloves are a sort of butter
color. I am hopelessly cheap!

I've used a pair of SSG synthetic gloves for a long time. They are almost like ultrasuede, so they were washable, which is GREAT for stinky gloves! They were plenty grippy and held up quite well. I think I used them for about 2 years before they started to get slight tears around the vented holes. I still have them and use them though. They just don't work for show at this point.

Anyway, they are very light weight, hold up surprisingly well, and they're washable!

I believe these are the ones: http://www.statelinetack.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=SLT650095%20A%20BLK

Also, they're pretty inexpensive considering how nice they look and how well they hold up.

I recommend SSGs. My winter pair has lasted me for about 2 winters (about 8 months), their all weather ones work quite well, however I have found that with the crochet backed ones, the leather on the palm is really slippery.

The Breast Cancer support ones are phenomenal to show it

My favourite summer schooling gloves are the Elation Gripper Summer Schooling gloves. As seen here: http://www.greenhawk.net/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/scstore/p-DRC0412.html?L+scstore+xqyw3939ff2e752e+1240455659

They hold up really well, easily go into the wash with my saddle pads, etc - my hands REALLY sweat when I ride, so it's great to have multiple pairs so that I always have a clean/dry pair handy when the other is in the wash.

Gloves are such a personal choice - no wonder there are soo many different styles/makes/fabrics available on the market.

Erika.

I would go with the "MW" Mac Wet gloves from England.
They are quite remarkable.
They are used by steeplechase jockeys alot in England because the glove gets stickers the wetter it becomes. Either from sweat or rain. Very light weight.

Neumann's, Roekls, and SSGs. Currently my favorites are Roekls.

I like the SSG's. I go through gloves really fast! The Roekls were comfortable, but fell apart rather quickly( and they are pricey!). I hear that the MacWets are AMAZING!

EquestrianCollections.com seems to have pretty much anything you could want. Or adamshorsesupply.com. I just Googled "Macwet Equestrian Gloves" and those places came up. I guess MacWet also makes golfing and shooting glove too. Guess they must know what they are doing since gloves for precision sports are their focus.

I like the Ariat Tech Grips gloves. They are washable, thin, breath, and last for quite a while.

I used to use the SSG crochet backed ones until a friend told me about a pair of Heritage Schooling gloves that have a terricloth thumb. They are perfect for wiping sweat or noses and the palms have a perforated leather or leather like surface. They are great and light weight. http://www.equestriancollections.com/itemmatrix.asp?groupcode=HG00050

I'm with stolensilver; I love the Watsons. They're not super thin, but i find after a few wearings they're so molded to my hand that it doesn't bug me. I've also surprisingly never found them to be too sweaty. Does leather breathe? Either way, great gloves! Had to buy a new pair this year only because I lost the left one in the snow.
