That was an amazing Dash for Cash ending! A very exciting jump off. I was still sad for Sapphire, that would have been a great win for a great team.

Didn't get a chance to watch, so happy for Shutterfly! What an amazing horse/pair!
However, I was sad to hear about Up Chiqui...do you guys think it's the end of the road for him? He's not done so well here recently.

YAY for Merideth & Shutterfly! Such an amazing team they are! Shutterfly has the most amazing jump. So careful, fast and a huge effort over every fence.

Meredith & Shutterfly are awesome... and after riding in the same division as her for years in the eq classes in California, it's pretty cool to see her on top of the world. :D

Meredith trained with Karen Healey for most of her junior years, though I don't know who she started with.

Congrats Meredith and Shutterfly, 3-time winners of the World Cup Finals.

I think there are only a few people who have won all three legs (although I guess technically they tied today).

It's wonderful how much credit she gives to her horse. He is just amazing! And I don't think a lot of people could ride him like she does.

Yay for them!

Meredith totally deserved that. It touched me how emotional she was in the interview. Her dad passed away a month ago. I knew her as a jr rider in CA.

It was a great class, well ridden. I liked McLain's round too, but Meredith really deserved that, it was flawless.

Shutterfly was amazing, absolutely flying over the fences. All the clear rounds were nice but his was in a class of its own. A well-deserved win for both of them.

Here are a couple of very early photos of Meredith

in 1982 at Santa Barbara Turkey Show, Childrens Jumper Teams, with costumes. Also in the pic are Candace Schlom (King) and Ele Goldstein.

Humdinger is the horse Meredith is holding far left

Meredith is with Forest County in this one

Also in the photo are Joie Gatlin with Jericho, Gigi Herman and Just you Wait, and Jenny Iverson on Steer Clear.

Very possibly. :) I had Candace Schlom's Me Too as my schoolmaster after she moved on to nicer horses. And Kristina Harrison (now Naness) who rides Rociero and was a contender for the dressage team last year was also the same age showing hunters in California.

It was a good year for horse-crazy girls. ;)

I had thought Meredith had been at Foxfield, but couldn't remember for sure.

what are you talking about here? he's been doing well this season. he gave him some time off before WC and won that big GP where he tied with Kerrins in Tampa. Did I miss something?

Maybe end of the road is a little much, sorry. For sure it's not the end of the road for him. That was silly of me to say. However, I just haven't heard his name in the spotlights so much in comparison to his awesome 2006/2007/2008 years. I love the horse, and it was heartbreaking to me to hear what happened to him at the WC. (Didn't get to see, was busy away from my home this weekend.) Even more so I'm sure it was insanely heartbreaking for Kent.

"Kent Farrington and Up Chiqui retired after fence two, Up Chiqui simply wasn’t himself when he came in the ring. "

The horse has proven himself and is amazing, but that's a costly mistake to make in the WC when he's been working so hard to get there. He lead the pack to this WC in standings for the East Coast. I just hope that for 2010 they recoup and bring on a better game and end up doing well in the end. Things like that happen for sure, but it's gotta kill ya when it does at that level because those people go there to win, that's their goal and when you retire so early on in a course you have to wonder why it happened.

Kristina Harrison bought my hunter This Time, who she renamed Saffron and did the hunters and eq on him.

In my younger years I rode Lights Out a gray hunter.

He actually does have quite a bit of TB blood on both sides. I think it's what gives him his "edge".

no - he doesn't:D
On the sire side 1 horse in the 4th generation is TB - Sacramento Song.
On the dame side 2 horses in the 4th generation are TB.

He is 3/8ths TB. For me, as a warmblood breeder/rider, that is NOT a "lot" of TB.

I will admit he is very heavily influenced by his damsire Forrest xx in both type and character. But the other 5/8ths that is WB is HEAVY old style WB.

when you retire so early on in a course you have to wonder why it happened.

The horse stopped several strides before the first jump (didn't get his eye on it? nappy by the ingate? woke up on the wrong side of the stall? who knows?), circled, jumped it, then knocked down the second jump. So with 8 faults plus probable time faults after two jumps, Kent decided to save his good horse for another day.

Unfortunate, but not exactly any reason to conclude the horse is washed up.

Who is 50% xx/ox? not shutterfly. He has no anglo-arab blood in him (ox).

The hanoverians calculate % of TB by looking at the 4th generation. If you look 3 out of 8 ancestors are TB in his pedigree. That makes him 3/8ths TB. No more no less.

Yes - he is heavily influenced in phenotype by Forrest xx.
but he is less than 50% TB, he is 3/8ths.

Five eights or three eights, what's the big deal? His TB traits are obvious and 3/8 is only slightly less than half, hardly enough to argue about. A little bit of TB blood goes a long way. ;) Can't we just say he's an exceptional horse and leave it at that?

Um hence why I said that was silly of me to say...I KNOW the horse isn't washed up so-to-speak, but it's odd for Chiqui to stop. I have a friend who worked for Kent and she was shocked that he stopped, her quotes exactly when I told her, "*GASP* Monster stopped!?! He never stops!"
I'm glad Kent decided to retire after that though, because like you said it's better he saved his good horse for another day, aka next year when he can do it all over again!

but then, here is Sir Caletto:

http://www.paardenfokken.nl/pedigree.php?horseid=114111

so, I think you can find many a Hanoverian with a good percent of TB blood -

I was trying to input my filly, who grand-dad is an Anglo-Arab, Matcho!

Most of what is not TB goes back to G line. The G line makes him more forward as well.

The end of the road for Up Chiqui?!! No way. Were have you been this year? He is an amazing horse with a great rider and they've had a lot of success! Confined spaces and super quick turns like there were at the world cup are just not his favorite things that's all, it doesn't mean that it is the end of the road!

Meredith and Shutterfly were just unbelievable to watch I have to admit.... I was a little sad for McLain and Saphire though.

I don't think that - along with several knowledgeable folks (a company I do NOT join as their expertise is far greater than mine) have EVER thought Up Chiqui was top top caliber - fantastic horse, please, don't think I for one second think not - but that step up a grade, to the uber GPs - no, really, the horse had found his extraordinary place at where he was, Peter Principle is my way of thinking!

dutchfan is correct. The Hans count at the 4th generation. He is 3/8. But if you look past the 4th generation, you will actually come up to 4/8, or 50% TB blood. Don't know where anyone got the idea he has Arab blood in him. It is not there in any part of his pedigree--unless you go by the theory that TB's were originally Arabs.

And what is all this kicking MMB around about. That girl and Shutterfly are hot. They are the Tiger Woods of the jumping world. You have got to admit it.

And yes Shutterfly is heavily influenced in type by Forrest. As a breeder, I think the Gardestern is what makes for the jump plus the carefulness. Gardestern was a super producer of very careful jumpers, but he lived and produced for only a very short time.

Whatever it is, it works. This is not a horse for just any world class rider. It is a horse for Meredith, and she rides him flawlessly.
