I'm having my horse adjusted by a chiropractor tonight. I am completely unfamiliar with chiro (whether human or equine), but the weather is GORGEOUS today and I'm wondering... is it usually OK to ride afterwards or do you need to give them some time off? Is a routine trail ride OK but no jumping?
Obviously I plan to ask the chiro tonight, but I'm daydreaming of riding after work... just wondering if it'll be on my boy or if I'll be borrowing a greenie.)

The person I use says yes, but says to keep it simple--no lateral work or collection.

It depends on how out of whack he was before the adjustment. I'd talk to the chiro and ask when and what

My chiro always recommends two days off after an adjustment.

I recommend light riding for 1 to 2 days and then a return to normal work

With my chiro, what she has said each time seems to depend on what she has to do/how sore he might be. Some days she says pretty much stay normal (light hack day of/next ok then back to work); on others she has said a full day or two off with a light day before regular work.

My chiro told me to wait 48 hrs before riding. She usually does acupuncture at the same time. Dont know if that makes a difference of not.

I would just wait the two days to ride. No point in spending that money and then taking a chance on whether or not it will stick just because the weather is nice today. It's Spring, there will be lots of nice days.

Ask the chiro. For me, usually 48 hours turnout, but no work.

I usually don't ride the day of an adjustment. But I will ride the following day - usually a light hack.
Last time my pony was completely out of whack. The chiro (also a Chinese med / acupuncturist) put him on Body Sore and wanted him on it for 2 days before riding. And then I was to start slowly and walk the first 2 days, and then I could trot, but not in circles! It took me about a week and a half to get him back to "normal" work level.

He wasn't terribly out of whack anywhere; she said to go ahead and ride him normally. So we went out for a short trail ride with a rather large group (8 of us) and about 15 minutes W/T/C in the arena.

I have always given Eliot the day off after an adjustment. He is never terribly out of wack but it has been a recommendation from the Dr. He also does accupuncture.

My vet and chiro recommend no riding the same day or the next day. But after that, return to normal work.
Good luck - hope it goes well for your horse - My horses L-o-v-e their chiro treatments. It makes them feel so relaxed.
