As of about 15 minutes ago, April 22, Wishbone has an adoptive home!!:D:D

I spoke with the Director and one of our very own COTH member's will pick WB up tomorrow morning. :D

The Director will make sure he's got a rabies and a Parvo shot and a vet certificate to be neutered. He assured me that should something not go right, I'd be the first person he calls, but he mentioned the number of phone calls about his little guy and laughed. ;)

So, keep your fingers crossed and Sebe drive safetly!! (((((((HUGS)))))))) :)

************************************************** *******

I am terribly sorry ya'll, but I got back at 1:30 Friday morning and didn't have internet access till now.

I've been in touch with a rescue group who is going to pull him on Tuesday and they already have 2 approved homes who are very interested in this little fella.

The director of the shelter has shown interest in working with the local group rather than allowing me to claim him and place him through my group who is out of state.

Should it come down to it, my grandmother will be able to go and reclaim him for me, but then I'd (she) responsible for the kennel fees from Thursday to Wednesday.

It was painfully obvious from Thursday evening's conversation with a staff member that I had made a HUGE mistake by following the proper protocol and turning him over to the shelter. As I would not be allowed to claim him after the 72 hr hold (not counting Thursday or Saturday and Sunday).

If he was indeed a abandoned dog and not claimed, and since their shelter is soooo full, he could be euth'd first thing Wednesday morning. So, hopefully, they will agree to work closely with the Rescue group in Hickory and this little fella will be able to find a loving home, he was AWESOME in my grandmother's home.

I'll keep you all posted on the outcome of this situation. :sigh:

************************************************** *******

I am down in NC visiting my ailing Grandmother and last night we were visited by an intact male JRT and he was kind, friendly, and acceptable of king attention and a warm place to stay over night.

The sad thing is, after spending the morning calling the local Animal Shelters and the 2 County ACs in the area, NO ONE has reported this dear calm dog missing. :( He's been turned over to the Caldwell County AC and has a 72hr working hold on him, so his time will be up on Tuesday.

My plan is this, my Rescue director has already said we have space to bring him home, but if there is anyone interested, I'd be able to work with you to get him into a great home.

He's calm, friendly, gracious and knows a few commands. He's loving and gave me kisses everytime I picked him up. He slept all night long in the laundry room with a mere babygate keeping in secure without incident. He ate a little and drank a bit and didn't even eat the dog biscuits I left for him.

He never even raised a lip to my Grandmother's neutered Shi Tzu and was respectful of my Grandmother's dog boundries. We didn't let them enteract only because this fella was unaltered and the JRT rescue lady told me to be careful they can be same sex aggressive.

So, if anyone is interested, I will post a quick shot of him later today.

I have contacted the JRT Rescue local Representative and she has no foster homes available, she has one foster with 16 and is overwhelmed and I won't do this to this little guy.

If he's not adopted by next week, I am making plans to return to Hickory, NC and claim him on behalf of Odessa Rescue (the group I volunteer with - with their permission).

But I've been given permission to work to find him a potential home prior to that happening, otherwise, a home will be found for him using the Rescue's resources there in the Warrenton, VA area.

Do you have pictures? He isn't fixed yet? I would be interested but he would need shots to get to Ontario.

I am sorry, of the 2 pictures my silly digital camera phone took, only one came out. I'd been calling him WB, short for Wishbone (think TV).

He is unaltered and appears to not be microchipped, as the AC officer scanned him and found nothing. As for his shots, I have no idea and I don't know how we'd get him to you, but if you are seriously interested, please drop me a PM and we can talk.

He's going to be well worth the effort to save. :)

If getting him to another location is a problem I can help you solve it. There are many people transporting dogs and cats around the country. He sounds like a gem. Don't let distance stop you. You can join this Yahoo group and ask for help There are other groups and transport organizations that will help also.

Please see my first post, I made my updates there.

As of yet, he still has no place to go and his hold will end tomorrow evening and he could be euth'd as soon as Wednesday morning.

But I'll know more later today.

So tell me . Is he a Shorty or what . I know someone right here in Northern, Virginia that is looking for a JRT. And they have had plenty of experience with them. She actually lost her last one who lived to be 15 yrs old. So please provide size and age.
Thanks ..

Eqf,

Sorry, but as it stands right now, this little guy won't make a trip out of state if the Shelter Director has any say in this matter. :( The rescue group I've been working with does not have a 501 and now the Director won't work with them either.

I'm working a different angle and hopefully, something positive will come along for this fella. I'm saying my prayers and keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh, and he's a shorty I believe, not overly tall and about 15 to 20lbs. My only regret is that I followed protocol and now he may suffer, I just should have brought him home with me instead of turning him in. :o

Good God, I just want to throttle that shelter director. You have multiple offers for a home for the dog and they want to kill it.

I will be calling the shelter in the morning and going to pick him up if I am approved!!
Thanks, VAHorseGurl, for the imformation!! Say a prayer for my and my new JRT!! I am on 50 acres that is ALL fenced with galvanized fencing so he will have the run of the place!! I have two barn kittens and one follows me as I do all of my chores and go out to pastures to feed. She is my "puppy", but want a house pet.
I'll keep everyone posted! ;)

I wish I could answer that for you, as I'm entirely frustrated and stressed out over this at this point.

I can't get the JRT Rep to even pick up the phone and simply call me so that we can talk.

I can't get down there for another 2 weeks at this point, I haven't even gotten my first unemployment check and now there is a problem with LM not filing the proper paperwork and doing so on time.

I emailed sebegeld directly to see what is happening there, I even offered her my cell phone number and I can't get any straight answers from the facility staff and I've not heard back from the director. :sigh:

I'm just so frustrated by all this!!!!!

YEA for me!! I only do rescue cats and dogs, so don't know how to react to having a NON-mutt!!

Can't wait to add him into my farm mix. He will be the one and only DOG on the 50 acres!!

I'm Sebegeld's friend and only boarder. I'll take pictures this week when I get a chance. I'm showing this weekend, and then Wishbone (now called Jackson) will be getting "fixed" on Monday.
So I won't get a chance to get pics until later in the week.

I have pics but need to get them uploaded and posted. He is a doll...except around CATS!!! My poor barn kittens are terrorized!!!!!!!!!! They have been the PRINCESSES of the barn until Jackson arrived. Now I rarely see them:cry:

Well that is not too fair to the poor kitties. Can you get a professional to teach you how to use an electric collar? It sounds like Jackson may very well kill the kittehs. Or, on the other hand, once he settles down and learns that that is an absolute no no he might understand they are not prey. Once they run from him I am sure he thinks they are fair game. He needs to learn early and fast that the other furkids live there as well and that you treasure them unless you want to always be stressed out about whether he is going to catch one. I hope he does settle and learn fast.

YES!! I totally agree! Poor Basil used to greet me at the door each morning but NO MORE. And I rarely see Nutmeg... though she is my roamer. Hopefully she has not ROAMED to a new home.

Jackson is being neutered today and then we will enroll in a training school. He is kept on leash for now and FIRMLY disciplined when he flips out over the kittens.

Jackson has been neutered and WE start obedience school on Wednesday. He is gettting very used to the routine around here and the horses are getting to know and accept him. The kittens, however, are another matter. Will address that BIG time in school!

Want to post PICS but do not know how.

Can antone help?
