View Full Version : Getting to Thomas & Mack (and back)

Any tips on getting back from the show? Last World Cup there were HUGE lines for cabs when the show ended. We are staying at the Wynn which is too far to walk. Should we just hike to the MGM and catch a cab there? NOT into waiting in that line again.

After reading all about the lines, we decided to get a rental car. For about $34 per day, it is worth the cost...

I found out there is a free shuttle - http://www.worldcuplasvegas.com/pdf/pdf-2009-shuttlebus-c.pdf

My friend went last year and said she walked and it wasn't too bad - about 30 mins. Us Seattle-ites will take any excuse to walk in the sunshine!

In 2002?, they were running free shuttles.
We took the opportunity to be dropped at different hotels on the strip, enjoy their facilities and the walk back to The Paris.

Rent a car if you can. It makes the whole trip so much easier!

Don't hoof it no matter how close it looks from the MGM hotel! LOL

We thought about renting a car, but it adds alot in parking fees at hotel and the venue.

Good tip on the shuttle. How long was the wait for the shuttle?

We always got on the Free Shuttle to the Luxor (I believe they went to other big hotels as well) and then walked/cabbed to our hotel or next stop for the evening.

It is...not...wise to walk from TM to the Strip, although the walk to the Hard Rock is totally doable and not scary.

There is little train shuttle (that seems to be well-kept secret ) that runs the length of the strip - I believe it goes as far as the Wynn. You can get on it at/near the MGM - ask for directions as it is a bit tricky to find the first time. Those cab fairs can get brutal...especially from the Wynn!

This will be our fourth trip to WC, and I can say unequivocally that renting a car is the way to go. Despite hotel parking fees and venue parking fees, it's still a thousand times better than waiting in that freaking cab line, and you're still going to pay nearly as much in cab fares as in car rental. Plus, with your own car, you can go wherever and do whatever you like, when you're not at the venue, and that is priceless.

We're planning on taking the shuttle to the MGM, then the monorail to our hotel. It's only $5 for the monorail, and it leaves regularly. Here's the URL: http://www.lvmonorail.com/

We have to pay to park at the Thomas & Mack center???? How much?

Thanks for the link to the monorail! It looks like it is only a couple of blocks from our hotel and since I'm the only one in my group who is going to both jumping and dressage, I'll be using that to get back! They will have the cars.

I am getting excited. Leaving tomorrow morning. I'll be there for the show jumping Thursday night.

Don't know what the parking fees at Thomas Mack are, but there are some really cheap car rentals available at the car rental centre. We paid $34.00 a day last time we were in Vegas, which we booked ahead at Budget online, and wished we had just gone to the rental centre as there were some local agencies with much better rates. The parking was free and plentiful at most of the casinos and hotels on the strip. Plus is you are also free then to go to the winery tours, Red Rock Canyon etc in your free moments.

We are staying at the Wynn and rented a car. The only parking fee is $10 per day at the Thomas & Mack.

We found it cheaper & faster, to go by Limo if you could get a small group together. We had 6 Ladies @ $10ea to cover the complete $60 for the trip from the Paris to the Show.(We also all added something for a tip for our Driver.) Earlier in the week, we also walked across to the Shuttle pickup & dropoff point at the Bellagio.
