I am wondering if these boots look as nice in person as they do online?

http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-04913&cn=117&bhcd2=1239106566

How is the leather quality? They look a little shiny, is that just the pictures? How do they hold up?

I am asking because I have the Buckle closure Dover open front boots and they look great online but not so much in person.

How about these? http://www.beval.com/Products/Italia-LTD-Open-Front-and-Ankle-Boots/2060900.aspx

And for either boot, what is the fit like? I just need full, average horse size. Not large horse or O/S. Dover comes in Small/Med/Large for horses. (They also make pony size, so small isn't for ponies.) Beval comes in Small, Med, Large, and XL. Would medium be too small for an average horse?

Any other suggestions for leather elastic/stud ended open front boots?

I have the bevals boots and I love them! The leather quality is awesome and they are beautiful. My horse is a 16.3 warmblood and i use the size 2 in the open fronts.

heres a pic of her so you can compare sizes to your horse

I can't see the picture but I was thinking I would need a size 2 as well.

Just found these

Anyone seen those in real life? I don't like the sheepskin but it comes with a neoprene liner that you can swap out.

Thanks! Have you ever tried them on any other horses? Your horse is similar to my 2, possibly a little more fine-boned.

I have the medium Nunn Finer boots for my 15.2 rather fined boned mare. The sheepskin liners fit nicely on the middle setting, the neoprene liners fit decently on the last hole. Mine are rather new so I'm hoping the sheepskin "breaks in" and become a bit less fluffy. Really happy with the quality of the leather; cleaned a couple times with Horeseman's One Step and they have softened nicely.

The Dover boots are nice as are the Bevals. Up to personal decision, really. If it were me, I'd go with the Bevals. Their leather always seems to be a bit nicer.

I hate those sheepskin boots.

I have seen these up close and personal. They are nice, well-made and sized well.

In other Beval's boots, my 16.1 75% TB wears a horse size.

My impression of these boots is that the leather its thick-- as you would want for protection and their long term survival so close to dirt. So that also means they can be a bit more stiff than, say, Beval's traditional bag-hide open fronts lined in sheepskin.

But that would not be enough to deter me from buying them.

I have those right now. I will warn you that they are SUPER FUZZY!!!!! I have tried everything to get the fuzz to go down just a little bit with no luck. Unfortunatly, they are too big with the Neoprene lining (14.1/2 pony). They are also my second pair because the first pair broke the day I tried them on my pony to see if they fit. I didnt even ride in them. But the Nunn Finer company replaced them.

A few pics of what they look like on

They overpower his legs. But if you take out the fuzzyness, the boots do fit his legs, just the straps are too long, so I have to use the fuzz to make them fit

i have the first boots, the dover ones. I really like them! They are a little stiff once you get them but they supple up. The leather button closing thing is a little hard at first but it gets eaiser after that!

to get the fuzzy down i took a pair of ear/nose clippers and a guide(my clippers came with some but you can get them at salon suply stores) and clipped them arount the edges and a little off the inside. worked great and they still fit!

also I have the Beval and Nunn Finer boots and love them both!

i have the dover premiers in pony size (the same boots, just 3 hooks/straps instead of 4 and its smaller, obv.) and while beval makes a pair thats identical (basically what you linked, except again, in pony size) i didnt realize it at the time when i bought my dover boots. i wish i'd bought from beval, because i couldve just got in the car and gone to beval (a nice 15 mins away) instead of order from dover online (great, NOW they have a store nearby, but didnt at the time) and have them backordered for god knows how long. i didnt do enough research i guess, because only after i got the boots did i realize beval had ones just like them the whole time. ive seen the beval ones in the store and truthfully they are almost exactly the same, but instead of "dover" stamped on the back in leather it has "beval" stamped in the leather.

so basically what i'm saying is that if you dont have a dover store or beval store nearby, if you've got to order online, order through beval. the boots are basically the same.

anywho, i like my dover boots, they hold up well, ive had them for 2 yrs so far and i use them several times a week (whenever i have a lesson, but i use them at shows too), and theyre SUPER easy to clean, because its lined with neoprene. i can just wash them off in the sink, even the leather (i put some lexol and conditioner on the leather part to keep them nice) but yes the leather part is a tad shiny on the dover ones, but after using them for a while they will become a little more dull and "soft" looking, however i kind of like their shine :p
