I do three day eventing, and am currently changing my Stadium colors to achieve a more "mature" look.
What are your opinions on a black saddle pad with white trim, either black or white jumper boots?, and I would wear a white show shirt with a navy hunt coat, and either beige or white pants?
My horse is a chestnut...thanks for your opinions.

I think that sounds very nice, but what are your colors now?

Stadium should be ridden with the same formality as dressage, except adding boots and changing the tack. So I guess IMO there shouldnt be any stadium colours.

In my opinion, the only appropriate color saddle pad in stadium is white (maybe, maybe black if it s a grey or white horse, as I understand the whole "white makes my grey horse look dingy" thought process). I agree that show jumping should be just as formal as dressage (that is, unless you are doing a one day and show jump in your xc gear like we do so very often here in Area II). Boots should be black, white, or brown. The only place I waiver in all this is for those who have great hunt coats in the nice colors that are popular in the h/j world and a colored shirt or stock tie (like yellowrose's FANTASTIC pink stock tie....).

I think Navy looks fine in SJ as well. I definitely wouldn't cringe at a navy saddle pad. ;) Otherwise, combinations of black and white are most appropriate.

The lower levels are a little more lax. I think unspoken rules come into play at P and up.
I did my show jumping through Novice and 1/2 of my training horse trials with a navy blue pad and I wore a magenta show shirt.
I don't have a picture in my photobucket but here is a photo album of his 1st Training HT.
I even had pink polos on because he had a whoppin splint pokin out on the inside of his hind leg that needed protection.

*sigh* now we have to get the smelling salts.
But seriously, I would have gagged. I threatened to dress my bay in his new white polos....with skulls on them! For stadium. But that will never happen.

Where did you find those?!?!?
But, no, never in stadium. Despite the cool factor. Maybe we can convince whoever makes Saratoga wraps to make them with skulls, then we could use them over porter boots on xc! That would be awesome.

Just get them embroidered. I bet someone would be able to do that.
If you're wearing a navy coat, wear a white saddle pad, especially on a chestnut.
Also, beige breeches please! :D

Its just one skull on the front of each, but no I would never, I have nice leather open fronts.
I got peer pressured into getting them at a local tack sale yesterday! They are so cool. Even cooler if I go with Tortuga as his show name.

hahaha!!! I just watched "Pirates of the Carribean" last night! That WOULD be great. You should get a black saddle pad with a skull and cross bones embroidered on it.
And ditto what Jazzy said. BEIGE britches (or a light color...like yellow;)).

Just a guess...I am thinking you are doing horse trials, rather than 3 day events, and I will recommend a white saddle pad, black, white or brown jumper boots, and beige breeches with your navy coat. I am not sure what the rule book says any more, but it used to say "hunt attire", and in that case, white breeches are only worn with a red coat, and a red coat is reserved for hunt professionals and masters of fox hounds, and male members with colors. In eventing (horse trials included) the red coat is reserved for USET riders. So in other words, no white breeches for stadium.

Rules state:
7. JUMPING TEST. Hunting dress or uniform. Protective headgear, with chin harness, designed expressly for equestrian use in accordance with paragraph 1 above. Hat covers other than solid black or dark blue are not allowed. Coat—dark color or tweed (if Novice through prelim.) Shirt—stock with pin, choker or tie; Gloves (if worn)—dark color, tan, beige or white; Jodhpurs, Britches—light color or white; Boots—black, brown, field, jodhpur or a
black or brown full grain smooth leather leg piece and matching leather boots. Chaps or half-chaps are not allowed. Member of armed and police forces, as in EV114.5.b.
Interestingly, there's nothing anymore (that I can find) about pad color. But neat and conservative is the way to go, I think.

I like white or light coloured pads. I saw one a while ago with piping around the edge that looked really smart.

wow....I don't put that much thought into what we wear for stadium.
Usually, I go to xc right afterwards...so we are in our xc attire. And I don't put much thought into my xc colors either....I wear what is clean ;) If I have to wear a jacket...usually I wear the same that I wore for dressage. An yup....do not do white breeches (I wear beige..typically a Navy coat). Those don't look good on any one as far as I'm concerned!
I don't own an all white saddle pad that fits my jumping saddles...all have a little bit of color on the trim and pipping...but all are pretty conservative. Navy or maroon type of colors...I have one with perriwinkle (sp?) that is actually very nice.
I think I'm more concerned about leaving the rails up...

I always thought it was the same as dressage, beige with navy coats, and white or beige with black coats.

Oh my gosh I am dying. I have got to find some of those. But ditto - no polos for jumping, ever!

^Ill post a pic one day maybe. Before he wipes his green goober on them and they are ruined forever. Sigh. I love white on the brown horse, so classy. Except now also super punk rock! Haha. I also have a skull shirt I can wear....*strokes chin*

It's eventing. Wear what is within the rules and is clean, comfortable, and affordable. Also preferably conservative.
I don't like the look of beige breeches with everything else black and white; therefore I usually wear white breeches for stadium, unless I got them really dirty during dressage.
I used to be a stickler for white saddle pads (and pretty much still am) until I used a black velvet one on a bright chestnut which a) looked really sharp, b) stayed clean enough to use for both dressage and SJ, and c) was 100 times easier to clean than a white pad.
As for polos, well they aren't really traditional, but I've used them in SJ for a TB with super-sensitive skin. What works is more important than fashion anyway.
All that said, my pet peeve is navy helmet covers held on with those ugly elastic bands ;)
