Gully and I and our posse just got back from FENCE, and wow are we tired. But when I left Gully in the pasture he had just challenged his best buddy Shrapnel to a race, and I feel pretty happy myself. It was a lovely day. FENCE switched from a two (or three?)-day to a one-day due to low entries, and I wanted to give them a public THANK YOU for running despite the low entries. I'm sure it was expensive. It was also smooth and well run, with courses that invited forward, positive riding in both show jumping and cross country. The times were well spaced so you didn't feel rushed from one phase to another, and everything ran on time and pleasantly. Warm up areas were spacious (cross country had solid warm-up fences, which I really appreciate.) Even the food was great--can't remember getting spinach salad with turkey, swiss cheese, avocado, walnuts, and a yummy homemade vinegrette at a horse trial before!
So, thank you, FENCE, for keepin' on keepin' on. I love this sport, and I had a great day.

Here, Here! I had a great time! It was my first time at FENCE and my second Prelim run with my boy! I had a blast! I got a little lost in XC...picked the wrong trail through the woods...hahahaha However, my boy jumped everything great and we ended up 8th! Yay!

Oooh, I missed the good salad, but agree with all the other praise!
SuperEventer, I kept seeing you smiling and patting your pony while riding away from me.
I loved being in Kidd barn - except I didn't see any of y'all. Had great fun on my boy, wished I had brought some of the younguns.
WHen is their schooling event usually, and the next recognized FENCE? We need an excuse to go back to the Blooming Onion in Saluda! And the Farmhouse, though I don't know how many bargains I can afford;) But I came home with a pair of used Dehners which fit me perfectly!

Haha Thats so true Jeanette, but I can't help being so pleased with him!! He's amazing! He's so much fun. My coach always laughs at me because I"m always beaming when I come off course. I just can't help it! I guess that's why we do this, right? haha
That's so awesome about the Dehners!! :) It's always good to find the right boot, that's for sure!

Jeannette, this Spring HT is the only one actually organized by FENCE, which can be confusing, BUT, the unrecognized shows are put on by the Foothills Riding Club:
http://www.foothillsridingclub.com/
and the recognized HT in the "Fall" is organized by the Tryon Riding & Hunt Club which leases the same great facility:

AND, it was a wonderful day, wasn't it...

I was there, and it was a really nice show. I got to meet SuperEventer on our way to xcountry warmup. It's always nice to put a face to a COTHer. Unfortunately, we had three stops at the trakhener on the course, and I was really disappointed to not get to jump the rest of the course. It's been two years since we've had a jumping penalty on xcountry, and I really don't know what happened. He's not ditchy, I don't think I looked at it, and he's been super brave until this. The real kicker was my husband was standing RIGHT there to video, and all I could think on my walk off the course was, "at least I can see what happened." Turns out, he didn't get me because I went a rider early, and he didn't know it was me!!! Sigh. The one time you really wish you had instant replay.
On the bright side, we had our alltime BEST dressage score. I suppose we'll go school some ditches, and work on me learning to ride.

Thanks for the links, CYR!
Umm, you're surfing while uploading pics, I hope. :) I saw a lot are up already. Just not me  And I was too busy scurrying away from the show Sat to spend $$ at the tack shop, so I haven't even seen a sneak preview!

The Green Onion closed! There is another restaurant there now but I have not been. The Purple Onion (http://www.purpleonionsaluda.com/) is still open in Saluda.
FRC cancelled the schooling show next week due to low entries. Running against The Fork is not good for FENCE or FRC, apparently.

Purple Onion, whoops. Chain restaurant mass marketing of phrases crept into my brain, I guess. Purple Onion is well worth the drive up the mountain!
Wow, that was fast on the photo posting, thanks, CYR!
So it looks like among the various organizing bodies, there is the XC schooling this coming weekend,
Aug 29 a schooling HT
Sept 26 a xc schooling day
Oct 3/4 recognized Tryon HT
Oct 25 FRC fall schooling HT (and schooling day??)

Foothills Riding Club cancelled the schooling for next weekend.
There was a small impromptu schooling yesterday.

It was a great event. And finally some nice weather! It has rained at every other event we've gone to this year.
