Hi again... as I mentioned earlier, I am interested in doing some small eventing shows this season and am curious about Rojas Ranch's 3-in-1 day event in Coopertown, TN. I have a couple of friends who have done this show but I haven't asked them details about it yet... have any of you done this event? Is it very challenging? Would it be suitable for a first-time eventer? Thanks!!:D

I went once when my horse was just starting out. It's very low key. XC is pretty much on the side of a steep hill. Stadium is on a sloping grassy area too. Dressage arena is the only flat place on the ranch (not even a flat place to warm up!)! If it's not far, I would take a beginner horse or rider for the experience.

I've been twice and loved it! Great experience all around. I took super green horses both times, and it went great. It was my first event, and everything was pretty easy. They have a very small warm-up arena, and grassy (but hilly) places you can trot/canter around in. Nice dressage arena, which is also where you warm-up for cross-country and stadium. I like the cross-country course a lot, there are some nice hills. The only jump I don't like-but it's totally safe-is a coop that's downhill-I just really hate jumping downhill. I did the 18 inches both times, but my second time I jumped mostly 2 foot and 2'6" for cross-country. (The greenie was ready for it, but I signed up for 18" because she hadn't ever done cross-country before) I love that Rojas lets you jump the higher fences. Stadium is always a pretty easy course, with nice striding.
Hopefully I'll see you there!

Also, springdaisy, if you don't mind my asking, are rubber boots ok to wear at Rojas Ranch, or should I buy leathers? I don't have leather boots at the moment, but I do plan to buy some soon.

Of course! I'd definitely say yes, people come dressed for a schooling show. Mostly polos, jackets for dressage. I've only braided one of the times I went, it's pretty casual. I would just wear what you have-no one is going to say anything unless you come in shorts and flip flops. ;)

If you have questions feel free to pm me. I have ridden there alot and just love it too! Dr. Rojas and his wife are so great! It fills up quickly as more and more people learn about what a great place it is. Its not a huge club but we have been growing every year!
I always dress, but there is nothing requiring it. I just do it because he and his wife always put in so much effort the least I can do is get out my show stuff! Anyway I like dressing. At the first dressage show this year I think every one was in a jacket. But there are alot of rubber boots!
