Those of you with farms in very (very, very) rural areas might feel my pain on this one.

We are moving to a really rural area in the next few months. Dog food selections there are limited to what the grocery store carries unless you want to drive over an hour.

My MIL said she heard of a few websites that have premium dog food and free shipping. Does anyone know of one? I found some that looked promising on google, but when you go try to 'check out' there is usually a hefty shipping fee attached.

We are currently feeding Solid Gold Wolf King, but are open to switching to another premium brand providing it doesn't have by-products, corn, chicken, turkey, wheat, soy, dairy, green peas, peanuts, or brewers yeast. (allergies)

Does anyone know of a website that does this? FYI, we go through about 85 lbs. per month.

www.petfooddirect.com might be what you're looking for. I hear they send out free shipping codes.

I've always been a HUGE fan of California Natural for allergy dogs and cats. If you're thinking about switching, it's certainly one to look at.

Simkie, thanks for the suggestion. I just called and they said they don't do free shipping on dog food. :(

Bummer!

Have you taken a look at the dealer locator on the www.naturapet.com site? Maybe there's a local dealer to your new place? They do pop up in the weirdest places sometimes!

SmartPak carries a lot of premium dog food brands and often offers free shipping (you can check for the latest code on the Off Course thread). I feed Wellness, and I know they carry that.

Try Flint River Ranch. Their Fish & Chips formula might be best for your allergic dog.

I called the closest feed store. They carry Canidae and Nutro (of the brands I would consider feeding). Canidae's grain free product contains green peas (allergen) and the only Nutro product that comes close to meeting our needs has soybean oil (allergen). Sigh.

There is a Natura dealer about 15 miles away. I hate to drive that far (15 miles on these itty bitty back roads would take 25+ minutes), but maybe I'll give them a call to see if they carry the California Naturals product. I think that our allergy girl can eat that.

Tarynls, it has brewer's yeast. Sad. Thanks anyway!

petfooddirect.com does not have free shipping but once you start ordering from them they constanly email you coupon codes, 10%,13%,15% off so that kind of offsets the shipping. Great company to deal with. I'm using them for autoshipping Orijen dog food because i cant buy it locally. Customer service is great and they will even help with a %off code for your initial shipment. After that they email out codes regularly.

Just a heads up on Flint River.....last time I ordered that brand, it arrived in a box full of ants. When I called the distrubtor....all I got was "Hey it's so good that the ants like it too" That was the last time that I ever ordered the "Baked Fresh and sent to your door"....actually it had been sitting in a warehouse.

Petfooddirect does free shipping on their raw foods, not kibble...but their shipping prices aren't bad.....AND you can usually find a 20 percent online coupon that covers most of the shipping. They are not quick, though.

www.sitstay.com sometimes runs free shipping promos with 100.00 order.

And as another poster pointed out..Smart Pak carries some good brands.

I also like The Hungry Puppy (google that one)..don't know if they offer free shipping or not...but super fast.

Flat rate shipping of 4.95. I used to feed this and they would run free shipping if you spent a certain amount.

Just another FYI..LOL!

Timberwolf had a recall on their Fish line last year.

We have a wonderful pet store in town who carries Taste of the Wild, Nature's Variety, Canidae and Go! Now When I inquired about Timberwolf, he told me that they refused to stock it because they were not impressed with the company.

A friend of mine fed Timberwolf almost exclusively and she has also switched to Taste Of the Wild, said she had become less and less impressed with Timberwolf.

Well, yes, there were reasons why I switched

But, I would say it's still considered a premium food so I thought I'd throw it out there:)
