Who's going?
Also, do you have to send in 2 checks (one for entry, one for pinney)?

That's what I did (sent two checks in).
Loudoun is my big, scary, nerve laden move up to Training. I did the Boyd Martin clinic last weekend and I am doing the CT on Saturday at Loch Moy, so I will have practiced all three phases and I still feel like I am going to throw up at the thought of Loudoun. :sigh: just breathe....

Yay, Test B . I have been kind of ignoring the lengthened canter on the 20 meter circle part because Connor uses it as an excuse to throw his head up in the air and hollow out and fall on his forehand :sigh:. I figure that if we start the canter off really slow, then I don't have to worry about too much lengthening, right . Of course, we need to get a canter first. It will be interesting, that's for sure.

I'll be there with a training horse and my BN guy. I hadn't even looked at the omnibus yet. Is it test B for every level?

Is it test B for every level?
No, some are A, some are B.
That's weird.
Wonder why they'd jump to Test B so early in the season, and for only some of the levels?

Good reason for me NOT to bump down to Training after all!

The BN is test A. I'll be there doing the BN with Tejana, sooo excited :) It's my first "real" event (I'm doing the short course next weekend) and I'm hoping to move up to Novice after that.

Remember, you only have to show a few strides of it. Don't try and go balls to the walls for the whole circle. Establish the circle, ask for a few strides of lengthen, then get it back together for the last part of the circle. I had to remind a friend of this last summer on her big strong green horse who would do a similar thing (lengthen means GO!!!). She was trying to ride the canter lengthening like she rides her medium canters on her intermediate horse. I reminded her that she only had to show that he CAN lengthen a bit and come back, it doesn't have to be a bit, fabulous medium. She rode it like that, he stayed calm, and she got a decent score on the move.

OMG! I'm glad you guys said something about the dressage tests. Mega-thanks! Pony and I are running Training at Loudoun. I'm sure I would have shown up there fully prepared to ride Test A. While I can memorize a test fairly quickly, this is not conducive to any relaxation on my part which translates to tense and knickers in a knot on his part. Guess I'd better start learning that sucker, eh?

Oh no Canterlope, not Test B you won't memorize quickly. I think I'm at a 75% rate of getting an error on that test. And at completely different movements!
I'll be there doing prelim. Hopefully, I won't be taking part of Morven real estate home with me again.

Thanks yb! I have never gone Training before, so I really appreciate the advice :D. I have been trying to lengthen for the whole circle; won't do that again . I am doing the CT at Loch Moy tomorrow so I can get out and actually do a Training level dressage test, but, of course, it is test A :sigh:

I was taught that half the circle should be working canter, and half should be lengthening. So, if you want to really over analyze it for a minute, the first quarter is working, the next two quarters are lengthening, and the last quarter is working. It has worked for me.

I will have my kid there with Dr D Coaching her! And BTW, it was nice meeting some of the COTHers this past weekend at Loc Moy! Just wish the weather would of been better to visit more. I was wet and frozen!
My kid and her Bay TBX will be running in the JN Division, or at least I hope, still nothing posted on the web site as of yet re: entry status. This will be her first Recognized HT of the season, and only 2nd at Novice. She had a nice schooling there a couple of weeks ago on the Schooling day and went double clear at Loc Moy this past weekend, so I think they are prepared. Let's hope for beautiful weather.. or better yet.. let's all water proof our tack (a little reverse thinking) :-)

I am entered in mine and my horses first prelim. I am losing sleep over it already. I don't think my horse is. *grin* Just hoping for good weather - if the XC footing looks like it did at Morven HT I am not brave enough to go at the higher level! haha

Has anyone gotten confirmation of their status yet??

Apr. 17, 2009, 10:29 AM
HappyAppy e-mailed the secretary, and apparently she sent the entry list to her webmaster several days ago--but he (if it is a he) has been unresponsive to calls and e-mails. :(
So hang in there, folks; entry status *should* be up shortly (and the delay is not the secretary's fault...)
IllusionOfYou, it will be my horse's and my first Prelim of the year; it's a really good course, but not small (that's if it's the same or similar to the P course at Morven last month--usually a safe bet. ;)) After my "1 star Trakehner debacle" there at the Jimmy W. clinic on the schooling day, I have a few qualms myself--but I really think it will be fine--try not to lose any sleep! All we have to do now is hope and pray for some GOOD WEATHER!
cinnabar, we also ride the Test B. (Not nearly as bad for P as it is for T :D Just that pesky "lengthening to a halt/reinback" that's kind of, ahem, challenging.)

Honestly, that trakehner on the Prelim course rides MUCH better when you gallop to it out of the water - it's one of those fences that rides quite well out of rhythm, but I think is really hard to school well. We usually see far more horses get a little rough in the water at Loudoun (the log before the log "in" to the water is set up to make you take a check, do not do not do not just wing-ding on down to it) and still jump the trakehner quite well. You guys will be great!!

Yes, that seems to be the consensus
It's only on the * course in the fall, IIRC; I haven't seen it on the spring P courses. (If it is for some bizarre reason, I will probably have to scratch :( Everything else on the P course is very jumpable; the bounce bank being the one tough question. I particularly love the water complex!)

don't scratch if it's on the course, that's crazy talk!
Listen to GotSpots. Ride it like you know how to ride. Don't know if it works on your mare, but when I had to jump something that terrified me I started tapping behind my leg tap, tap...tap, tap...tap, TAP at the base. Helped me (ok, plus I let out a huge growl -- apparently totally unnecessary as he was like, ok, ok, I GET IT I AM GOING ALL RIGHT ALREADY :D).
You will ride dressage, and SJ, and a good chunk of the course, EVEN IF you have a problem there....

Well, I DID all that (and more) on my approach to it at the Jimmy clinic, and the results were um, not successful :(
And I don't want to set her up for failure, knowing her tendencies to try to "stick at the bas and jump from a standstill" at that particular jump--nor do I want to get injured (or get *her* injured) by attempting to confront this thing so early in the year. I believe that it's one of those things we will have to "work up to" with her, as opposed to chucking her (and me) into the deep end--so to speak--at our very first x-country run of the year.
But I think (and HOPE) that it's a moot point, since it's usually reserved for the Fall one star course.
We shall see!
