Don't know if this has been posted, but apparently there's been a couple of assaults in the area and wanted you guys to be especially careful when by yourself until they find this loony tune.

Here's an article about an attack at a farm on St. Louis Rd.

THANK YOU for posting this, I think we all need to be more aware of everything. Like someone who posted in reply to that news story, I too have my ccw and do have a pistol on me most all the time, I wasn't wearing when I went out to the barn but maybe I should.

Scary that this is happening.

VERY scary and you are welcome! Us as horse women who are in the barn by ourselves a lot of the times need to be aware for sure! Loudon County is a little crazy right now, I swear! One of my husband's clients called 911 yesterday cause there were some strange men on her property, turns out when the cops came, they arrested the men because they had broken in and robbed a house nearby!

How scary! I know that there are times I go out to my barn, that is just off our house, so a stones throw from the house, but still, you got me thinking that anyone can hide behind it or the hay barn and jump out. I usually call the horses in and watch their reaction to things, if they are on alert I go check, I look at the fence line and what could be catching their attention.

I know I was told that the gang problems are becoming more prevalent here in Fauquire County and surrounding areas. Just shows we need to be more alert of our surroundings and where we are and ride.

I'm amazed, they actually described the guy: "The subject was described as a Hispanic male, 5-foot-7 with a medium build, wearing dark clothes. His face was covered."

Please be careful out there ladies...and don't let political correctness get you in trouble. Wanna' bet when/if he's caught he's an illegal alien and a nearby stable's worker?

No, because not all hispanic people are illegal immigrants, and stereotyping is missing the forest for the trees.

everyone be careful. I may be moving to middleburg in a few months, and I admit I'm surprised by reports of gang activity--it seemed so lovely and quiet when I visited.

Sad to say though, we do have more illegals than we do ones who are here legally. The gangs are mostly hispanic as well, they bring their crap with them when they move here and I myself voted to ship them home, no more playing nice. You want to be in my country, fine, learn my language and do it the right way. MY ancestors did...so can you!

OK Now. here comes the train wreck.. I hear it coming around the bend and over the hills.. PLEASE let's not get off topic here and start bashing people.
"REMEMBER THE ONES YOU BASH ARE THE SAME ONES THAT CLEAN YOUR BARN, GROOM YOUR HORSE , AND SPEND MORE HOURS AT THE BARN THEN YOU DO IN MOST CASES"... ;) So change the tone in which this thread is headed.. Just Be Careful out there.

How sad that we no longer have the freedom to escape reality through our horses.

... which may have absolutely positively NOTHING to do with this thread.

Young Hispanic gang males have an initiation where they are abducting young girls in Chester County, PA. They attempted to abduct a Avon Grove HS girl when she parked at the Wawa in Avondale where Rt. 41 & Old Baltimore Pike split and they put her int he back seat of her car but she escaped. They found her car on Ewing Rd., just a few miles from the abduction scene. She parked on the side of the store where it's darker and she never expected this of course. I met her friend at another store and was telling the clerk about it when her friend spoke up and confirmed the story. I doubt that the girl will be able to identify them. Her friend said she lives near the Wawa where this happened. This is so scary.

Sorry to offend your liberties Equinoxfox...however....I clean my own stalls, do my own tacking up, groom my own horses and spend more hours in the barn by myself. Sad but true facts, even if it does sound like racial profiling, woman need to know who to watch out for. Am I saying that all hispanic men are bad, no I am not. However, being on alert is better than letting our guard down and yes, attacks still happen at barns where they work on those who go there to ride or train, etc.

My daughter was attacked and raped by a black youth from Belize, did I say young man of color in the court when I was interviewed on what this did to my family? No, I spoke the truth, a BLACK youth. Sometimes we need to tell it like it is and let others know....

Ditto Equinoxfox. Can we possibly encourage people to be vigilant without cheering for vigilantism?

And I won't even ask belplosh to explain to me how 'black' is a more accurate descriptor than 'of color'.

You didn't ask however...you can classify several races into people "of color". Black gives a description of who and what he was...sorry you don't see it as I do. And I pray that no one ever lives through what we did.

But yes, lets all be more vigilant when were alone and out anywhere, be it the barn, back pasture, riding, walking, etc. Never know who is watching.

That's exactly how I interpreted it. There is a time for political correctness, but when you're in court, or describing some guy who tried to/did rape you, I don't think you get judged for accurately describe your attacker.

Think of it this way: If you were assaulted, and you only describe the guy as "of colour", that's not specific enough. He'd probably still be out there, and not behind bars where he belongs.

Thanks to the OP for the heads up. This thread, and particularly the subsequent discussion re: race, etc., isn't horse-related, so we're closing it.

Thanks,
