Its my first time in that neck of the woods so to speak. Can't miss me; tall blond/loud Appy mare. Any suggestions of really good places to eat?

Gigi,
Puleo's Grill right off of Strawberry Plains Pike is amazing. I know the owners and Kathy and Bill used to be close to them as well. Wonderful southern italian.

I second that suggestion! If you want some old fashioned "drive in" food like burgers and shakes try Cardin's Drive on Ashville hwy. The milkshakes are amazing!

Last I heard they were having a hard time filling, so you might as well still try to get in.
I'll be there!

GREAT! Thanks for all the food info and I will definitely plan on the competitiors party. As I said I am hard to miss usually as I have a very large very loud Dun Appy mare. I run BN.
Please if you spot us say HI! I also wear shirts with an Appy logo on it and some say BleuHorse Ventures.

I will be there too!
Here's hoping we improve on our first performance and don't run smack into a tree. Small goals!

anyone have info on the UL courses?
My friend won't go for Intermediate. She says the light does something funny over the water and tricks the horses.
I was wondering about the prelim water and if it has the same issue...?
anyone have anything to say about it?

anyone have anything to say about it? I don't know about "funny light" but it was overcast.
For the first water, the Prelim and Intermediate fences were right next to each other. And there was not much water, so it was really just a drop into wet grass. For the second water they jumped the same fence.

Was your friend talking about the water jumps, or the river itself? If it was the River, it's beside/above the stadium and it does often have a foggy haze above it that give a good fright to some horses.

You met me (again) and Tikidoc, too! I was talking to Tiki before dressage and stadium!
We all had a great time!

oddly enough, 'Gwen' was Tiny's last Real Name. She became renamed to 'Tiny Pony' when I took her on, because as I told DH ....
'We won't bother naming this one because she is so small, there is No Way I will get attached to her and want to keep her ...'

The water jump itself. She went two years ago I think. So they've changed the waters around?

The P water was described to me as 'uninviting' and 'a big jump in' which would require a strong ride.

IIRC (don't have my notes with me) the P jump ino the "water" (really just wet grass) was bigger than the I jump, but the I jump was a bigger drop.
Only T really had to jump INTO water.
And then P and I shared a "water-to-water" jump later in the course.

I figured I met many of you as I yakkitty yak to everyone at events! I think I need to ask people "Are you on the Chronicle and what's your handle?" LOL
And yes it was my truck that broke down Friday night and I had to get fixed Sat. before 10:30!! I can't say enough about Galloway Auto Parts and Doug Swartz Mufflers. The parts place actually had a Ford Expedition 1998 alternator in stock and all the guys hanging around that morning found me Doug to put it in asap and let me tell you...it was WAY cheaper than my dealership would have been.
As for water at BN it was non-existent. We rode down into the water pit and out; no water. Oh yeah by the time we ran I think there was a puddle formed!LOL My mare ate the course up. It was our last recognized BN; in the Fall we move on to Novice. In the mean time LOTS of dressage. This year three times we have been last after dressage in classes of 12, 17 and 15 and when all was said and done we were 7th place. Purple ribbons were our color this Spring!
Kate are you on TMP?

Janet you were terrific this weekend. Everyone working the show were just fantastic. Even everyone stuck in the rain on Sunday were friendly and of good cheer. I want to add during the morning from heck with my truck, I finally had to call the show secretary and she got someone to go feed my poor mare. Thanks again!!
We are moving up to Novice in the Fall and River Glen is definitly on my list of events to go back to!!

Oi - keep it under your hat about the 12 year olds - I don't want it getting out - people will start thinking I'm odd.

I was opening and closing the show jumping "in gate". Wearing a straw hat.

GASP! Were you the one riding the adorable "Tiny Pony" in BN? My girls were so in love with the cuteness that was your pony! I loved your "weeee" as you went over jumps too. What is that pony anyway (besides super cute)?

:)
Yes - that's me. I don't know what she is tbh, I picked her up for next to nothing 2 years ago, and it's taken that long for her to become truly rideable after her experiences ! I'd really like to know her history, but I got her from a friend in TN who got her from a friend, who bought her at auction. My guess is she's been forced at some stage, because by the time I found her, she was unrideable... un-anything-able really ! She would shake all over if she was trapped in a stall and would do anything to get away from people. She's pretty much recovered - and she's only seven now, so imho, she was definitely rushed too early.
I really try hard to keep my mouth shut jumping, but sometimes, you just can't help it !

That's right, I remember - I talked to your friend as you were warming up - she asked about Tiny :) She does tend to attract a little fan-club, I guess she's quite unusual looking (as well as being my baby-girl). I'm thinking of painting stripes across her bum, and registering her as a Zony ;)
