We put our dog Buddy down last night, he was an aussie and a grand old man who added so much to our lives and just a great farm dog.
Buddy came to live with us after being in 4 homes in 4 weeks, those folks just didn't understand that a great dog needs is a job, never had a bit of trouble from him and he went to work right away.
We all have met really smart dogs over our lives but he was also one of the kindest dogs anyone could meet, He was a serious guy and took his job to heart. He was a huge help around the farm, so not only do we miss our beloved friend but truely, the other dogs just aren't in his class as far as working dogs go. Every morning he set the agenda for the day for the rest of the pack, this morning, it took them a while to figure out it was time to eat and go to work.
Buddy loved all animals, but the great love story was Buddy and Luci. Luci was a stray pitbull adopted into a bad situation and a bait dog in a fighting ring, we got her battered and starving, with wounds physical and emotional. Buddy took one look at her and devoted the rest of his life to loving her, it was a love deeper than most humans have, He never waivered from caring for her and comforted her when she died. Luci died of a stroke in Oct and Buddy's heart broke. Last week my daugher, who he raised came to visit with my grandson, Buddy looked happy and played with my grandson, it was like he was relieved to see her and then this past week he crashed, I think he was waitng for her to feel his job was done.
This week, he disengaged from life and was quietly waiting for his end. We helped him last night,
RIP old man, the goats are running amok, the pack is grieving, we will have to figure out what to do without you. You were a good boy and a hard worker, great praise for an aussie and well deserved.
