Poor guy...
Ozone, Arkansas, 72854 $150
Name: Lucas Breed: Tennessee Walking
Color: Bay Sex: Stallion
Birth Date: Unknown Markings: N/A
Height: 0.0 hh Weight: 0.0 lbs
Registry: N/A Reg. #: N/A
Additional Comments:
I'm not completely sure of his age but I know hes between 2 and 3. He does have a biting habbit, but he's fine with his feet being messed with. I've put a saddle and a bag of feed on his back and he didn't seem to mind. My sister has hit him in the face with a broken fishing pole a few times so he flinches a bit when you move to quickly around his head now while he didn't befor. But he's getting to be to much for me to handle now with school and camps. Plus I can't afford him. He's ran down the fence, and he escapes into the neighbors feild. Also, he has not been tested for coggins in the past year. Thats also another thing I cant afford. E-mail me for any questions you want answered and I will send more pictures if you want.
He is also skidish around small children. He's not really quite sure of them.
OMG  Gawd, gotta love Arkansas.... sigh. My favorite part is about her sister "hit him in the face with a broken fishing pole so now he flinches." I think I'd bite too if someone hit me with a fishing pole in the face.:(

Unfortunately Minerva, I'm fairly certain it's a very real ad.
I think instead of regulating horse breeding, we need to be regulating people breeding!
Then of those actually allowed to breed, there need to be qualifications for owning anything that has a more advanced central nervous system than an amoeba!
P.S.--It ain't just Arkansas, neither. You can find tons of ads like this from everywhere around the country! ;)

She hit him in the face "a few times". So, it doesn't sound like it was an accident!! sheesh. It doesn't sound like a hoax, unfortunately. :(

Makes you sad when you think of all the people who really want a horse and can't have one. Here's someone who is lucky enough to have one and sounds like she clearly should not own a horse.

The truely sad part is that the little guy is adorable- probably not the best conformation ever but with the photo angle who knows. The photo that is with the ad looks like he is living tied to a tree.

Dear Lord, the poor thing's tied to a tree!
I'd say only for the picture, but it looks like there's a water bucket underneath the tree, so that's probably where he "lives". Gaaahhhh......
He'd be cute with brain surgery, and some weight and muscling.

Yeah- I bet he lives tied to the tree since he "ran down the fence" and escaped into the neighbor's field. I am guessing she "can't afford" to fix the fence...

I vote we create a COTH spay/neuter fund.... for people.
We'll buy their horse if they promise to go straight to the dr. and get their hoo hoos and winkies fixed.

I guess at least the seller acknowledges that the horse does, in fact, need a better home. I mean, we don't know all the facts--perhaps he/she was given the animal, or bought him not realizing how much care a horse really requires. And as far as the sister thing goes, well that's horrible but it might not be the seller's fault--he or she might not have found out about it until afterwards. And if it has only been a year since his last coggins he's not even particularly overdue. And we don't know that's a water bucket--it could be a grooming kit or something. The tree doesn't look particularly damaged like he had been tied there for a long time (and I do tie my horses to a tree while I saddle them, so I know how quickly those things show what a bored horse can do!).
I can hope, can't I?

I wish I had somewhere to put the poor guy. For $150 it'd be worth a try. I wish I knew someone that would try to do something for him. At the price he's at, he's meat. He's young, he could have a future... But not if someone keeps whacking him in the face with a pole. :(

That is a disgusting example of why some people should never own an animal!
I have asked Shirley At Ozland Horse Rescue to contact this seller. If she will relinquish the horse I will send Shirley money for his care and castration. Shirley can do miracles! Just ask her about Elmer!

woody that would be great if she could this boy needs a home that actually cares for his well being
lets us know,
i would use her own email and advert as evidence of cruelty
either she sells him to xyz or you go to court and she will have to give him to you type thing

I have sent an email to the seller and to Shirley at Ozland. It's better to just get him out of where he is than to try to deal with the Dept of Ag in Arkansas - it's a different mentality there. Because she is not actually breaking the Arkansas law with how he is being kept a humane inspection will not help.
A few years ago I bought a sickly guy named Elmer for $50 from an Internet posting and a bunch of good hearted people from another BB pitched in to get him to Shirley.
From Illinois there is little more I can do. I am just APPALLED by what this poor guy is having to endure! What a senseless mess! Hitting him with a broken fishing rod - just makes me sick! How can people do stuff like that? As if the animal has any choices. Turns my stomach!

GLS, unfortunately it is unlikely that the owners would be forced to give up the horse or face court charges even if laws were being broken, which like Woodland said it doesn't appear there are. Even if they did go to court if the person if it is a first offense they'd probably just get a slap on the wrist. Of course, since the seller is apparently young (since they live at home, and mention going to school), it might be enough to scare them into giving the horse up. ;)
Woodland, keep us posted. Hopefully the owner will do the right thing and give the horse to Shirley.
I do like the fact that they clarified in the ad that it was a broken fishing pole used. I mean, WTF? Who hits a horse with that? It would almost be funny, if it weren't a real horse.

Which almost makes me think it is another M-L trolling post
If it is M-L I will be royally pissed!

What is M-L? I don't believe I've heard that term before.
That aspect did jump out as fishy to me, too. The rest seems rather believable, but that is a strange detail to put in there. They do say you can often spot a lie by the level of detail--frequently liars will embellish tales with inconsequential little things that someone telling the truth would feel no need to mention. I don't know who "they" are, though, so have no idea if that is correct or not. ;)
So I guess what I should say is that I hope that the horse either ends up in a good home or isn't real.

I shortened Minerva Louise to M-L. If you look at the threads she starts they are always "sensational" with the intent to raise ire - and usually end up a wild goose chase. CoTH CSI usually ferrets out the truth.
From past experience M-L could have posted the sensational ad herself to get a bit of Sh&t stirring in. Because the email link to the ad no longer works I think we have been trolled by M-L yet again!:sigh: Someone with so much extra time on her hands should be out mucking stalls

Someone needs to take a screen shot of the ad in case an investigation is launched into animal cruelty and those folks take the ad down. JMO

I get really tired of Woodlawn calling me a troll. I am not. I posted this not believing what I was seeing, thinking that maybe someone could help the little guy. There is not much with regards to resources for helping horses here, something that Woodlawn acknowleges.
With regards to my posts ALWAYS being incindiary, I suppose, "Photos of my horse" was a real flaming hot topic, as was, "Introducing to a new herd". Yeah, lots of firey posts in those two. The update to my barn situation was also pretty tame. Geez.

Good point. I still think it would be pretty rotten to put up a fake ad, though.
