View Full Version : Poplar Cancelled?

I just posted on the 'xc fair' thread, but thought I'd post here hoping for a quick confirmation. Did they cancel SJ and XC for tomorrow at Poplar? I was planning to pick up a few of my students and head over there to watch tomorrow morning, but would really hate to get there to see nothing! The website still says that they weren't going to run on Saturday but that everyone would be running Sunday.
Can anyone let me know for sure so that I don't drive over for no reason?

There was nothing going on today due to the weather. Tomorrow is XC and Stadium but check in the morning.

Thanks Lex. That's what I thought. I knew they didn't run today, and they are supposed to be going straight from sj to xc tomorrow. But someone just told me that they cancelled it all b/c of flooding. I'll check it in the morning before we leave, but I'll plan on still going :)

Nothing on the website saying its canceled...hope you're there as if the schedule is correct, advanced will begin in about 5 minutes!
The plan is to jump stadium in XC gear, add 20 minutes to your SJ round start time and then you'll have your XC start time...hope everyone has safe, fun trips round XC!
We have blue sky in Covington - yesterday I thought the pond was going to end up in the back yard it was raining so much and so hard....but gotta love it after all the drought (and hay I've bought because of it  ) - now .....GROW GRASS GROW!!!!!!

If anyone is there, please keep me posted on the 2* division. One of our YR (and COTHer WakeRider) is doing her 1st 2* on her quest to qualify for YRs. You can't miss him. He is an adorable palamino pony. I am keeping all digits crossed.

Courtney (WakeRider) and Willie took 12th in the 2* division! Willie was a super star in stadium and had a great cross-country run, just adding a few time penalties to his dressage score. That pony is aboslutely incedible!
I watched the Advanced down to Prelim today and the footing was a bit slick but holding well when we left. The staff at Poplar was on top of it, removed a few fences from x-country but mainly just kept boggy/muddy spots filled in between runs. Only one Advanced rider completed x-country. One was eliminated and everyone else scratched before any jumping or just completed a CT. There were scratches in every division, but I think most of the other riders opted to ride in their divisions.

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes and words of encouragement!!!!!! ( I think I had about 32 voice mails/text messages saying 'GO GET 'EM GIRL'
I'll post an update on my blog shortly.... but the pony was absolutely a SUPERSTAR.... didn't bat an eye around the entire course.... and was quite insulted when I kept trying to slow down b/c of the footing..... kicking myself now as we were .1 away from 10th!
Thanks again COTHers!!!! :D

:D NOW I know the Pony is none other than that INCREDIBLE little flying thing with 4 legs that I LONGED for after watching stadium at the PTF Advanced! CookiePony introduced me to WakeRider's mom, as we played in the rain ... CONGRATS - both of you are stunning and very, very talented!

Congratulations WakeRider! I think I saw you go back in 2006 at Maryland HT with him. I was walking the P XC and we were at a wood cord and you guys came through and rocked it. Really stuck in my mind because you were straight as an arrow, he was totally engaged and forward and jumped it so well and he was so solid. No surprise to hear how well you continue to do. :)

good job to his jockey Heather Morris.

they did their best to help the footing on the cross country all the way from Advanced - Beginner Novice. From what I heard, with the help of some hard work, the footing held up relatively well even after 2 days of torrential downpours.
and the stadium footing was excellent.

Congrats to Courtney and her pony! I love watching them go. We stood over across the road at SPHTII and waited and watched them warm up and waited... to see them breeze beautifully through the corner combination. And they were fabulous! Way to go, Courtney and Pony!

the photographer was david mullinix, he usually has the pics up by about wednesday..
and yeah the footing was amazing wasnt it! i was one of the last to go out on the CIC* course and I don't think we slipped a single time (granted we were about a minute over time, but still ;) )
oh and could someone explain to me what the protocol was for jumping out of the CIC** water? were you just allowed to pick a whatever bank you liked and jump out there?

yes... some riders went left after the island (harder but saved time), though most turned right.... you could either jump up a bank (which I did) or circle back and leave through the narrow opening (on the right)....

Thats great the Ro won! I remember seeing his old owner riding him before Heather bought him back here in ole' Kansas. He is a really cool horse! Glad I got to see him run down at RH3 this winter!
