I have a 4yr old female lab who was hit by a car as a puppy. She was very lucky (and so was I!!) to survivor with only a dislocated hip and some road burns. She does have minor arthritic issues in her knee. Last vet exam (last fall), vet recommended a glucosomine supplement, which she is know on. Has anyone had good results with Adequan in dogs? I just started my horse on it and am amazed by the change in his physical and mental well-being! She is not really uncomfortable but if Adequan will slow the progression of the arthritis it would be worth the time and money. She is only 4 and I cringe at what she will be like when she is 8!

I also noticed that my cat, who is a senior now at 10yrs, is getting gimpy especially when she gets up from napping. Is adequan overkill for a cat?

Jeez, you'd think there was something in the water where I live...a 12yr old horse, 4yr old lab, and 10yr old cat...all about the halfway marks of their lives with arthritic issues!!

Go to www.glcdirect.com
Someone sent me there and I got the 2 week free dog sample. In about 4 days the clock on my 13 year old Aussie turned back about 3 years. I ordered the supplement after that and a friend who hasn't seen the dog since last summer couldn't believe the change. He is running up and down the stairs again, playing with his ball, it's amazing the improvement in this dog. I have him on 1/2 the recommended dose.

They make a dog one, a horse one and a people one. I also started my mares on the horse one. Not sure if there is a cat one or if the dog one would be suitable for cats.

I give one of my clients dogs her Adequan shots IM. I have to say, it has changed that dogs life. She was diagnosed with very bad hip problems and was crippled. She feels GREAT now. Good enough to escape the perimeter fence regularly

We have several dogs on Adequan, and have also had good success with accupuncture, and a class 4 laser therapy to help our worst affected. If you're not already, add fish oil to her list of supplements, it good for their joints as well as skin and coat, and mental health!

It is. Go to the page about the dog kind, click on order now. Then scroll down through the different sizes and so on and one says free sample. And you can pick from various dosages for whatever size dog you have. Just add to your cart and it will be free.
THe samples come in capsules, but I just opened them up and sprinkled on his food. The capsules are very easy to open.

Where is a link for the sample?

We finally put our old dog on a NSAID and it has made a big improvement, but still no stairs. Poor baby.

eta: Sigh, never mind, I got so excited I didn't even read the rest of the thread ;)

Hmmm. You pay $6 shipping for the two-week sample. $3 a week is pretty pricey, I'll pass.

I use CosaminDS (gluco/chon) for my dog and, if I get it on sale, pay $20 for 54 days' worth (108 capsules). CVS carries it.

What is the dosage for a dog? I have Glucosamine for myself but have no idea how much to give a dog.

Here's the info for the sample.
I think when you go to check out it doesn't charge you the shipping on the sample. I didn't pay shipping when I got mine. Either way I would have paid it in a heartbeat for the extra life it has given my dog.
There may also be an 800 number you can call to ask about the shipping on the samples.

Ok I just went to the site, and when you click to add the sample to your cart (and I would say get the large dog sample no matter what size your dog is and adjust the dosage accordingly so you get more) and then go to check out, shipping is shown as n/a. So I don't know where that $6 for shipping came from. I checked my file and I didn't pay any shipping on mine. It came in about 3 days.

When I ordered the stuff, I ordered the powder for my guy since he eats it fine on his food. I give him one scoop a day even though it says two, and he is doing amazing.

When I clicked to add it to my cart, it also added $6 shipping.

Wow that's weird. I did it twice and it didn't do that for me, nor when I ordered it a few months back. But it is way worth it, IMHO, in the relief it gave my dog. Again, maybe call the 800 number instead?

Cosequin makes a cat glucosamine/chondroitin supplement--it comes in a capsule, which you open and sprinkle on their food. Most cats don't seem to mind it--we mix our hospital cat's in with a little wet food.

GLC is one of the more cost-effective, high quality glucosamine choices for dogs. Some dogs won't eat it though, so it might be worth it to order the sample just to check out.

My old kitty is on cat Cosequin and she loves it- will lick it off her food if I don't mix it in. My small animal vet (who boards at my barn) said that Cosequin is MORE effective and better utilized in cats than it is in horses or dogs. So I would suggest trying that for your cat first. It made a world of difference for mine.

I give my formerly-creaky dog Hylasport. It has gluco/chondroitin, MSM, and HA, as well as flax and vitamin C. Buy a bucket intended for horses it costs 20 cents a day for a 100 pound dog. Just sprinkle it on the food. If he doesn't get it for a week (due to owner running out of it) he goes back to being creaky.

I think I figured out why some folks had the shipping charge problem on glcdirect.com
go to the dog page
click order now
scroll through the products and make sure you go to the one that says large dog SAMPLE or small dog SAMPLE or whichever one you want
click quantity then click add to cart
that way the shipping charge will come up n/a
if you click on the regular size product the shipping charge will come up
