a 1000ml bottle would basically be a 'power pack' (double dose for 5 days) for FOUR horses, correct?
??
And I think I just made my head explode... the 290gm tube would do... ??? One? I keep coming up with 1.2 and that doesn't seem right, but maybe it is.

I love math.
but you aren't giving enough info. . .

Here are the details:
10% fenbendazole
4.6 mg/lb for 5 days power pak dose
Figure 1000 lbs horse?
I'd do the math, but I keep coming up off by a factor or 10, I think.

1000lb horse needs 46mL/day for 5 days, for a total of 230mL per horse.
230mL * 4 horses is 920mL total. So yes, 1000mL covers them for 5 days.
however, unless you are absolutely sure they are 1000lb, then you're going to be short, as I would do 50mL/horse/day, making it 1000mL total, and unless you can suck every bit of that 1000mL out of the bottle, well... ;)
And if the horses are bigger than 1000lb, you definitely need more.
4.6mL per 100lb of body weight, and I round up to the nearest 5mL.
If you're talking about paste, then it's the same conversion - 4.6gm per 100lb of horse.

Actually they mostly come in around 900 or right at 1000lbs. I only do the big girl for 1200. (which, yes, complicates it, but I haven't gotten THAT far yet--I have one around 650/700# so the two added together come to two 1k# as far as ORDERING goes  )
The 290gm tube is paste, yes.
Sooo.... it's the same math--grams/per 100lb as ml per 100lb? Um... that seems right--metrics and all (10% is 10% of one gram or one ml.... right??? :uhoh: )
So the 290g tube would be ONE horse with one day (double dose) extra... ( 290/46... comes out to 6.3 .... )
Two 1000ml bottles is too much by about 2 horses/full course... but 1 is short by about 2... Trying to figure out the best way to order. How long does the liquid stay good for? I wouldn't use it again for awhile... probably at least fall when the pg mare is weaned...

Yep, it's the same math - 4.6mL or 4.6gm, liquid or paste, per 100lb body weight.
Get as accurate with your weight as possible. Scale is best, obviously. But here's a link I thought I'd lost that gives a more accurate calculation than the one I usually give out
http://ojas.ucok.edu/02/papers/hapgood02.htm
And then, just for good measure, I'd still round up to the nearest 5mL/mg
So, calculate the dosage for each horse individually, rounding up, and add :)

two ideas that might help. Safe-Guard is the same chemical as Panacur and
the liquid is the same concentration. You can buy Safe-Guard Goat Dewormer
in a 125 ml size so if you need just a bit more than 1000 ml, getting one bottle
of goat dewormer in addition might be your most economical approach.
Other comment, you will need to have the "gun" to use the 290 gm size of
Safe-Guard paste. It comes in a tube similar in size and dispensing as a
caulk cartridge. The gun is similar to (but not identical to) a caulking gun.
You do have to buy the gun as well as the paste cartridge, but the gun
is fairly sturdy metal and you won't have to buy another the next time
you want to use the large paste cartridge (unless you misplace the gun).

I think my eyes just rolled into the back of my head trying to follow this Thread.
Was just getting ready to post a question about the goat wormer & now I am even more lost.
If I buy this bottle: http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10551_10001_34642_-1______?rFlag=true&cFlag=1 Is it enough to Powerpack 1 horse that weighs 900 pounds?

Seriously guys--PLEASE use the search function. I think poor JB has explained this every week for the last 6 weeks.
900 pounds divided by 100 = 9
9 x 4.6 mL = 41.4 mL per day
41.4mL x 5 days = 207 mL total for a PowerPac
So, as reflected by every other thread we've done on this same topic, you need TWO 125mL bottles to PowerPac any horse that's bigger than 543 pounds.

LOL, it's ok. I think ;)
Theraputic dose of 10% fenbendazole (paste or solution, doesn't matter) is what you're looking at for a "power pack".
4.6mL per 100lb of body weight, per day, every day for 5 days. Liquid or paste, doesn't matter.

JN4JENNY, I DID read. As stated, I became more confused as I went along. Rather than make a mistake, I chose to ask. I will continue to ask questions, even in the face of your ridicule. Just put me on ignore, so I do not offend your brillance.

he,he... I started out knowing the DOSAGE, but was getting gummed up in the available forms and... well, face it, extended math.
I add 2 + 2 and get 22.
Not *quite* that bad, but when I start to do stuff sometimes, I might've had it right going in, but then I confuse MYSELF. :sigh:
And THAT is why we have FRIENDS. :D Right JB?
Now, ask me about pH, calcium and odds of foaling... I'm SO THERE.
But THIS thread is about figuring out the most economical way to powerpack 7 horses. And economical doesn't *always* equal cheapest... i.e. if the liquid doesn't last--I'm being quite wasteful to get two 1000ml bottles when I could get one bottle plus two tubes.
(and yes, I know about the gun--as a one time cost I think it's probably worth it. I will most likely be doign this math at least every-other-year, if not yearly... the big tubes are SO much cheaper! Only beat by the liquid--but the liquid doesn't win if you've got the wrong # of horses and no one to 'share' with. ;) )

Right :D

I think 1000mL plus 125mL would be cheaper than 1000mL plus 2 tubes, unless you find the 2 tubes for cheaper than 125mL (obviously).
I haven't had to worry about leftovers, as my rounding up has me using a full 125mL per 2 horses each day, so my 5 125mL bottles is a full 5 day course.

I'm thinking the liquid is worth it just for convinence too. Mine eat it in beep/falf.
OH, and see, I screwed up the math AGAIN. SIX horses to do. #7 is actually 7 and 3/4 and will not be powerpacked but rather something else as she's due in 3 mos. ;)
