I have a darling Section B Welsh colt, and had NO colt names picked out! I am drawing a total blank on this one.
Sire:*Wedderlie Mardi Gras
Dam: *Holyoake Sonique
I'm attaching some pictures I took of him yesterday at 2 days old. More can be seen at http://www.welshponies.com/09soniquecolt.htm
I've named two of the mare's foals with M names (they were by Mardi Gras), but I don't feel like I need to keep to a particular letter this time.

Very cute! I want a pony baby!
Since the dad is Mardi Gras, how about something New Orleans themed, like French Quarter?

Well, how about these for a Mardi Gras Theme:
Mardi Gras Mojito (actual top drink at the mardi gras)
or
Masquerade
You could call him Mo or Mojito around the barn.

I was just going to write Masquerade!! I think that would be cute and still with your "M" theme.
He is absolutely adorable. Congrats!!
We had a grey polo pony named Mojito. My daughter couldn't pronounce his name so she called him Tito. We have since sold him (she doesn't know that) but now every time we get another gray we let her think it is Tito!!:D

I am terrible with names, but I wanted to say "cute baby'. I just started with training older welshes, and I found your web site, I just wanted to complement you on your stallions, and the results of your breeding.
I am in NC, and hope to come visit some day when I am in the area. You are one of the breeders I look for when checking pedigrees for projects. Good luck with all of your babies this year.:)

He is precious! You certainly do breed gorgeous little ponies!!
If you wanted a boy's name to start with an 'M' you could use "Mr." in front of whatever other name you had in mind. I think I've already suggested that before for you, so pardon me if I'm repeating myself. Not very original.
How about Mardi's Son? I don't know the rules of pony naming... is that not pony enough??? :D

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions!!
My current plans for him are that he will someday be a child's pony, so the cuter the name, the better!! Though I do like the sound of Clanfair Carnival, I'm not sure he's wildly enough marked for that -- or for Masquerade, which I really like too!
I've HAD a couple of colts that would have fit the Masquerade name WELL -- I'll probably save it for another with a BIIIIIIIIIIG white face!
Any other suggestions are very welcome! I haven't settled on anything yet!

OK.........here in the Norheast, Childrens pony hunters would love the names Cajun Cook'n and Jambalaya! Absolutely would be very noticeable in the ring.

Let me know what you decide. By the way- he's adorable!
I just may take photos tomorrow and post them and let these good people name mine too.

Well, with those names (Mardi Gras and Sonique) you certainly need a FRENCH name!!!
King Louis or Petit Louis
Le Concorde (I was thinking of the Concorde sonic jet. . incorporates "Sonique" and yet soounds masculine ;-)
Fat Tuesday (literal English translation of "Mardi Gras" ;-)
Sonic Gem (I think its a kid's video game/cartoon character but incorporates names as well)
Bourbon Street (one of the most popular streets in New Orleans during Mardi Gras ;-)
hmmm, I'll try to think of others. . .

How about Clanfair Momento? It is an "M" name and it is along the same lines as the lovely Keepsake.

Oh, I love that! I am putting that on my list for sure -- if not for this one, then for another!
I also really, really like Fisher Price -- which is a totally different kind of name! LOL
I need to sit down with my big name list this weekend and see if anything else jumps out at me.

There has already been a Mardi baby named Fat Tuesday.... though he doesn't carry my prefix, so it would be slightly different, but still.... I might feel like I'm treading on toes a little bit to use that one.
I need to take new pictures of the colt today on his one week birthday. I am SOOOOOOOO smitten with him. He is about ten thousand times cuter than the 2 day old pictures now!!
