View Full Version : white breeches that aren't - um - see through? - UPDATE - I got FITS

I haven't shown in a few years, and my last pair of white breeches is long gone. I don't even remember what brand they were... I ordered a pair of knee patch Tuff Riders in white on sale. My DH has a couple of pairs of men's Tuff Riders in darker colors that are really nice, but these weren't quite the same. I guess I was being cheap, and when I tried them on, that showed. Literally. They are most definitely see through when I stand in the light. Before I tried them on, they really did look decent. I thought it would be a good deal. However, when I tried them on and stood in the light, they were, well, sheer.:lol: Tell me (please) that there are hiney hiding white breeches. I mean, I know tight white pants aren't the most flattering things on the planet, but they would feel a bit better if they weren't see through!

Any recommendations for not-so-see-through white breeches? I'm open to full seat or knee patch. I'm only showing Intro and Training this year and don't have a strong preference at that level. I'd like to stay under $200 if possible.

Has anyone ridden in white FITS? I just got a pair in a sand color that I love and would spend the cash for another pair if it will (literally) CMA.

UPDATE

Well, I found a pair of full seat FITS on Ebay for a great price, so I got them in sand for schooling and in white for shows. (I know, I know... My wallet still hurts, even though it was a great deal.) I love my FITS knee patch, so I figured the full seat were worth a shot. They are awesome! Super comfortable AND... the whites are most definitely NOT see-through. In fact, they seem to have an extra layer / lining to make sure they aren't. So, I'm very, very pleased with this purchase! Just wanted to update in case anyone finds this thread in the future.

Both my white Ariats and Aristas are made of heavier material than the usual breeches and do not show through.

These. They are the only ones I wear now. I have four pair! They are a woven stretch fabric that doesn't reveal every bulge, and heavier than many. Plus the black seat means no more saddle stains on your white breeches!

I have the white FITS, and the material is solid enough that it's not see-through. I love those breeches. Had them for schooling, and finally decided to buy another pair (in lovely white) for showing.

The white FITS that I have are double layered so that they don't show through. As a bonus, the inner layer is very girdle like to help smooth the lumps and bumps.

I went through this last year! I found that On-Course Naturals/white full seats (cotton) do not show through and are comfortable and not expensive. I could buy 3 pairs for away shows since I can not look at a horse without getting terribly dirty

Just get yourself a pair of Spanx to wear under them. Then it doesn't matter. I despise thick breeches, and Spanx are so comfy (and supportive) I don't mind wearing them under white breeches. :)

I have a pair of Spanx -- the shorts kind. Do they make full-length ones or do you wear the shorts? If you wear the shorts, can you see the shorts line above your knee when you ride?

Ditto the Spanx idea, but I'm so cheap I buy the Hanes equivalent at Kohl's. They keep my thighs from jiggling too much and make my backside look ten years younger than I am.

Hanes makes one that reaches to about mid-calf. No lines or bulges!

I like the Irideon micro-cords. Not too thin, not too thick, and the texture of the corded material is very forgiving to less-than-perfect figures.

I don't have whites, but I have the wind/rain resistant ones... and I'm in love with the Irideons.

So can't help except I love that brand. they is yummie, its like pants that actually fit... and make my azzzz look great... not just good... (well as good/great as it gets in tight pants!!!)

I love my Tuff Riders, but I only use knee patch. I tried them in full seat and didn't like them because I felt like the seat material didn't stretch AT All and the pant material stretched too much.

But if you like knee patch, the whiltes and nice and not see-through.

Ovation Microweave DX full seats are the best! The material is supportive without feeling heavy, and they have a super grippy material for the full seat that really helps keep your butt in the saddle, even on the "big trots". But the best part is that they are lined in Dri-lex in the full seat area so you won't have a sweaty bum! :) I think they sell for under $100 too.

This is funny because I'm dealing with the same thing. My old white breeches were Harry Halls and PERFECT! Nice, thick, stretchy, comfy and not see through. Just bought a new pair of Harry Halls and low and behold, everything shows! So I was thinking about trying the Spanx. Is it true that they're hot? That would not be good in Arizona.

Haha, I wish it worked that way! I'd wear them all the time.

I wore something similar to Spanx, a super control top, that ended at the ankles. It wasn't noticeably hot to me and I'm in Southern California.

Once at a show, my friend touched my leg. She said I was so smooth that I must be made of plastic. They were SUPER control.

The ones I am talking about in my original post are knee patch Tuff Riders, though... and they were definitely somewhat seethrough when I tried them on. Are your Tuff Riders ribbed? Maybe I just have a different make?

My husband has 2 pairs of Tuff Riders that are seriously nice, but they are darker colors (and definitely not ribbed).

I think I am going to try to Spanx (or knockoff Spanx) idea with these breeches, as they seem to be nicely made otherwise... and I'll also be investing in another pair (different brand) after all of the great suggestions here!

Thanks, everyone! It's nice to have (hiney hiding) options.

sorry Coreene, I thought this thread was about breeches, but I understand now that you are talking about underwear.

I think the full seat must be a heavier material or better quality than the knee patch. Or maybe I just managed to get a super cheap-o knee patch pair. My trainer also recommended the full seat tuff riders. My knee patch ones, though, are also ribbed and are definitely SHEER. I know my trainer's full seats are ribbed, too, and they were definitely not see through!

I'll try on a pair of the full seats to see how they work. I do like the price -- and as I said, my hubby's Tuff Riders are really great quality.

Be careful putting dark (real) leather on lighter colored fabrics. The leather has to be dyed and doesn't always hold that well. I'm not sure if Equissentials will do it. I've spoken to other companies that won't do it (Tropical Rider?). The synthetic leather will hold the dye better. But the black full seat on white breeches is very slimming! I see it at recognized shows too.

The On Course ones in the Dover catalog are my faves

Just a warning- my On Course breeches died an unnatural and sudden death yesterday. They were definitely see through when I got off my horse. The fake suede full seats looked a little baggy and frayed when I put them on after the last washing- and during my ride they literally shredded and became very see through, as in, you could reach in and snap my panties through several hand sized holes- thankfully I was riding at home. I had worn them last week at a clinic...
They were only about 18 months old, they were washed in zero and murphy's soap or PePeDe and hung to dry. I've never had this happen with any other pair. The fabric stilll looks brand new, but they are now seatless!
