LOL...not to laugh at the man with bleeding on his brain but he did have a great sense of humor about it! Seriously not a good idea to have people who've never ridden a horse before try racing. Trying to dismount at a full gallop isn't the best idea.
I knew there was AQHA racing...but that's a Paint, isn't it?
Hey...at least he still has both testicles.

I am amazed that the stations lawyers permitted such a stunt. I am amazed that the track allowed it. looks like a law suit waiting to happen. you just can't fix stupid.

Well, he did tell the horse to STOP, damn thing didn't listen.:lol::lol::lol:
Yeah, I noticed that the horse looks like a Paint as well.....could you imagine what would have happened to this man if they had put him on a real TB racer?
Everyone involved deserves a Darwin award.

I got a laugh out of the part of the article that said his coworker came over to him laying on the ground and said, "I have a show at 2."

Not that I know anything more than this but... they do race paints. I saw them in California when I shipped horses out there. I pulled into the track at about 7am and saw TONS of paints and said to the co-driver.. "hey look at ALLLLLL those pony horses- this place must have a million TB's to have THAT many pony horses!!". Then I noticed the race tack, excercise riders mounted and lack of pony shanks! LOL

The people who were there to stop the horse, "gave him a wide birth":lol::lol::lol:

Thank goodness he's reasonably "okay"...could've gone a lot worse methinks.
Those danged voluntary dismounts will get you every time!
(voluntary--that's how I broke my danged arm)

I used to own a retired racing paint. He was basically a thouroughbred with spots. He made a damn good hunt horse though.

Well that was truly horrifying - a man nearly rendered vegetative for a publicity stunt.
Did noone consider there could be runaways?
Perhaps sending the outriders alongside the "jockeys", complete with leadlines might have prevented this outcome.
Ah, hindsight - always 20/20...

I like the idea of outriders with leadropes gong alongside the "jockeys." And maybe they should have been on pony-horses instead of the real racers. Who allowed these men to race their horses? Oh geeze.

My first thought was that they were actually racing lead ponies, because someone thought it would be "ok"...
I also can't help but think of all the times my friends went on a trail ride and got "bucked off" (horse took a step to the left, rider didn't) or "bolted with" (trotted)
Still probably not some marketing person's smartest moment. Glad the guy is going to be ok!

LOL that's hysterical!!!!!!! I was just telling my boyfriend this morning that Darwin would be so frustrated at all the ways humans have circumvented natural selection..... this definitely illustrates that point, but it's so incredibly funny none-the-less. at least the DJ is taking responsible for his actions and not blaming any other party (you know, the fact that he agreed to get on a horse and race despite having no prior experience...) but what a dumb idea all around!

Arent we told all the time about how riding isnt really a Sport??? All you do is "sit there" and the horse does everything???
SO I guess the thought all the way around was how difficult can this be? Guy sits on a horse, horse does all the work, horse runs fast, guy sits up there, crosses the finish line. Horse stops. Guy gets off and has a glass of champagne and gets his picture taken, horse gets a carrot and goes back to the barn
In THEORY I guess it sounded just fine!
