When you wear half chaps and breeches or tights, what kind of socks do you wear? Tall boot socks, over the breeches, like a tall boot? Or short ones and under the breeches?

For schooling; polo shirt, levi's, paddock boots, low cut socks, and my half chaps. :D

Whichever ones are at the top of my drawer. Short, long, whatever. :)

Knee highs from anywhere. I get rubs with low socks.

At least crew socks, if not full boot socks. I love low socks, but boots rub them down and start rubbing me...

The other day, I mistakenly rode in short (crew) socks under my chaps for the first time. It will be the last time as well. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad with breeches, but under jeans ... nope. Blisters.

Always long socks! No matter what boots, boot/chap combo, or breeches/jeans I'm wearing. Usually over the breeches, mostly because I forget to put the socks on first, so it's just easier, and doesn't bunch up underneath the pant leg :)

With breeches I'll wear whichever socks are clean and at the top of the drawer. (: With jeans I'll usually wear taller socks under my jeans. The socks have never really made much of a difference with my half chaps before.

I'm wondering what people find more comfy?

I've never worn tall boot socks with paddocks and half chaps but I think I'm going to try it next time, it sounds like it'd be more comfortable. My chaps rub me a little.

Tall boot, they stay up and don't rub. I've worn whatever is on the top of the sock drawer but some of them slip down and rub, and since they are pretty much all black crew socks and I can't tell which ones stay up and which ones don't I grab the tall boot socks because I can tell them apart.

Oddly enough, I was *just* wondering the other day if I was the only one who wore tall boot socks with half chaps. Guess not! I love 'em, but they go on over my regular socks.

I love my tredstep socks! But I also wear my thick socks this winter since by paddock boots are too big! I tripped a ton till I got used to them being to big for me! LOL!

I have posted this before but I believe it bears repeating. "Boot" rubs (usually caused by not wearing long socks and friction of breeches/jeans/half chaps or boots) can be very serious and should be treated and not ignored. My very good friend had a minor boot rub which led to a staph infection (within two days) and required surgery. These rubs can be prevented by wearing long socks under half chaps and boots. Ankle socks are just not appropriate and do not provide any protection.

Rather than thinner boot socks, I really like a thicker cotton sock. I tend to pick up funky patterned kneesocks from Target. Generally you can get a three pack of those for the prick of one pair of Zocks, they hold up well, and really, who doesn't want pink and green argyle socks

I wear ankle-socks. Then again, my paddock boots don't rub, probably because they're falling apart, lol.

Jen! I was just thinking the same thing! I have a Target pretty much across the street from my house and ALL I wear is their knee high socks. They have SO many cute colors and designs. Everything from bright pink argyle, polka dots, stripes, holiday colors, pink stripes with flamingoes!, to solid colors. They are cotton, so thicker than boot socks (I hate boot socks), and are usually $6 for 3 pairs. Can't beat that deal!

Ditto on the funky Target socks -- especially the cotton knee high ones. They are very comfy and hold up well, too!
