Now that the kids are reaching their first birthdays, I thought it would be fun to see how they’ve changed compared to their baby pics on the 2008 COTH Foals page.

How about we post up a pic on their 1st birthday?

I think that sounds like a great plan, as long as I can take pictures in April, Belle Starr's birthday, instead of showing Her Mudiness today. I can barely tell what color she is!

I'm all for that. My guy won't be a year old until next month (and hopefully clean by then) so I'll take a pic then.

Maybe we can even talk Julie into adding them to the website. I love going back and looking at all those baby faces!

As most of you know, my little guy had colic surgery a week before his first birthday.

he is home and doing great.

He was born Feb. 23rd 2008.

He is about 15 hands right now and should be about 16.3.

His mom is Golden Grace by Candi's Gold and is 15.3
His dad is Roc USA by Idocus, mom by Galoubet

First picture is one week old, second picture is 1 month old and third picture is right before his surgery with his mommas bridle on. Last picture was on his birthday after he got home from the hospital.

Since we're finally having some nice weather (actually it's too warm at 70 degrees!), I went out this morning and took pics of the kids. Here they are all woolly and butt-high - The Hotline filly and Johnson colt will be 1-year old next month while the OO Seven colt and Sinatra Song filly won't have their first birthday until June.

Dolce Vita - Sinatra Song
Divo - Johnson
Dateline - Hotline
Daimler - OO Seven

Enjoy!

Yearling Name: Folie a Deux
Sire/Dam: Futurist/Final Deal
Birthdate: 06/01/2008
Current Height: Getting big!!! haven't sticked her, but I'd say maybe 12-ish hands? between a small and medium pony.

She was a twin (the other one didn't make it :(), but she's a feisty little thing and was determined to survive. Fed her her first meal/colostrum out of a Coke bottle because Finale had been "leaking" her own out for 2 weeks. She's been wonderful this past year and I can't wait to work with her! She got trailered across the country (NC to CO) when she was 2 and a half months old and loaded on the trailer each day like she'd been doing it all her life. When a tire blew, she couldn't have cared less. Just chilled in the trailer like "what? no biggie!" Folie looks like a clone of her mama and acts like it too. When Finale's breeder told me she had the dominant genes, man was she right!
She has to have surgery in a couple weeks to clip her check ligaments... she just grew too quickly for her little front legs to keep up when she was ~ a month old and hasn't settled down on her heel. But she's wonderful and I think she's the greatest thing ever
As for her name... "Folie a deux" is a psych term for a "Crazy/delusional idea shared by two people," and since it described her and her sister's insane idea to come into the world together, it fit in a nice way to honor her sister. Sorry for the novel... she's my first baby and I love talking about her... haha :)

Birthdate: June 7th 2008

This is the fugliest he's been so far this winter, and I'm STILL not ashamed to show him off, he's still lovely! I adore this little man. He's 9 months old now, and he just wore his first bridle on the weekend. Totally non-plussed, we walked up the laneway and down the road for 15 minutes, his halter on over top his bridle. I've been handwalking him off property since he was weaned, and he's at a different facility now for a month (they have an indoor), and I've been donig the same - handwalking him off the property and down the road. Just like my previous homebred, this one will be bombproof by the time he's 3. I can't wait!!

Pilsner ("Buddy") will be a year old on April 25th. You may remember we lost his mother a few days short of his 3 month birthday. He has done well....these pics dont do him justice with all his fancy chrome but he was convinced that the snow was alive and going to eat him! LOL... He is a big boy right now...He is over 15 hands already....he loves his Uncle Zack who became his pasture buddy when mom died...and recently he loves his Aunt Angie so they might get a chance to play soon...

I have not told many, but my 2008 -
http://www.spindletopfarm.net/inspecktur.htm
has been sick. We think he has some allergies that turned into a resp. infection last year. Its taken us a bit to overcome it, but after some pretty intense treatment he is doing 100x better. Made me sad, as he was one of the best I have bred and I haev a ton of hope for him. Vet says he looks fine now, but clearing up the infection was rough for a while.
Otherwise he is hanging out with Auntie Siegi (my Veneziano mare) who teaches him to be nice and have manners!

It looks like they did great at the shows. I am so bummed my little guy can't show until the summer :( Darn colic surgery.

Will you be at the IHF this summer. I hope to see you there!

I finally got some new pictures done of Nightlight - Faux Finish's and Remember My Name's baby sister from 2008. As far as we know, she's the first smoky black & white sabino TB out there and as her winter coat is shedding out she is turning into that beautiful melted golden chocolate colour once again. She is by my cremello TB stallion - Guaranteed Gold out of my bay sabino TB mare - Puchi Trap.

She is also flipping huge - far taller than both Faux Finish and Remember My Name at this age. Very leggy - her legs go on for miles so she should also hit that 16.3-17hh range at maturity. These pictures are taken at 9 1/2 months of age

I'd like to see another 75-100 lbs on her, especially before she starts showing in the Hunter Breeding classes this year, but lots of time to slowly put a few more lbs on her. I think as well she is growing so darned fast - everything is going UP rather than OUT ...

Here you go - I am SO in love with this filly! :)

He had to be on stall rest until last week and here is a video of him his first day out!

He is still about 15 hands. He looks so much like his mom!

Look at that face! What is his dams breeding?

Mama's breeding is actually fairly unremarkable. She's by a local stallion Zeus (not THE Zeus) who's pedigree is here: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/zeus25 and out of this mare:http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/delightful14

Here's my fav pix of mama: http://picasaweb.google.com/jessica.heidemann/ForChristina#5185250552611492642

Samotis - now I'm going to go crazy trying to figure out who you are!! But you're right, he looks a LOT like her. I'm just hoping he jumps like her and is as brave as her...but maybe with a little less attitude in the dressage ;)

Many of you held my hand virtually and watched Allie come into the world last year. Even though she is bred to be a race horse she is going to a show in the morning as practice for the MD horse breeders association's yearling show in June. Neither of us has done anything like this before so it should be interesting! Here she is all cleaned up at 14 months:

FINALLY got some new photos of my yaklings. Both are going through that testy phase. The paint is just pushy pushy pushy, and all we seem to work on lately is moving OFF of pressure. The grey is the polar opposite, you touch her and she jumps sideways 5 feet. In hindsight, I'd rather one jump away then knock me on my butt....sighs.

Can't believe how long I've been waiting to post pictures of Nemo, the yearling, on this thread. As some may remember, he was born at VaTech because of placentitis, so health has been something of a brass ring for him since pre- day one. Here he is finally blooming and scoping clean after an 8 month battle with ulcers, etc.-- featured on what amount to previews of my long-awaited website. In these photos, Nemo is about 18 months old, 16 hands. It's been a long, but ultimately joyous haul. http://www.tunnelsendfarm.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Site.Nemo

Thank you. Believe it or not, he is literally like a puppy-- as in, I throw balls, sticks, etc., and he fetches them. Quite the character.

Glad I posted here-- it's great to see still more lovely/adorable members of his crop-- and to have the motivation to keep checking what I've done on my new website: e.g., I just noticed that I put Nemo's brother's foaling date (2003) rather than his own (2008)!! Typos grow like weeds in whatever garden I try to plant :( Oh, well. What can I do but keep correcting-- and encouraging people to point out my mistakes?!

Thanks again for looking.

He was a bit tense with all the commotion there that day. These are the proofs. I love this little boy and he is such an easy going lovebug. He follows me around pasture, hops right in the trailer and hauls to shows alone etc. Not much phases him.

She won our GMO Futurity on the same day and even won some money for me and her breeder, Linda Woltz! Here are some pics from that day:

My 18 month old is nowhere near the size of everyone else ... I cannot believe he is even 14 hands, e.g., the size of the beloved Teddy. I guess I bred a midget.

Mom is 16.2; Dad was 16.1.

The funny thing is he has been butt high for quite some time... or maybe I just see him every day.

*sigh*

They really ARE our kids aren't they? Thank goodness my trainer only weighs 100 lbs. I'm kinda sad ... it doesn't mean I don't loff him any less.

I'm just kinda sad for him ... hmmmm. What a stupid remark that is. HE doesn't care how big he is. Well, his butt has been up in the air for the past 6 months, it seems.

Weeelllll,... maybe I'm wrong. Here he is at Fair Hill in August (http://stacylynnephoto.exposuremanager.com/p/imunforgettablemsf/imunforgettablemsf10_27_31)... not that he was butt high then (http://stacylynnephoto.exposuremanager.com/p/imunforgettablemsf/imunforgettablemsf25_27_31)... Goodness, Stacy takes nice pictures. I'm sure he's grown since then ... I guess I just ... don't ... know. Hmmmph.

Everyone else's youngsters look WONDERFUL!

Isn't it funny, though. I look at his face and I see a "person" ...

LOL, don't count your chickens before they've hatched, OM. He may grow like a weed in his 2-yr old year, where a lot of others may stall and only grow 1-2 inches between now and next fall. ;) Just wait and see.

My guy isn't overly tall either, he's around 15hh at 18 months. I expect him to mature around 16.1hh, but if he stalls in his 2-yr old year like his half-sister did then I may get 16hh, tops, who knows!

Aww thanks ASB and Can't Re-

I have to keep reminding myself WHY I have horses. I loff them ... their personalities. It's a treat to watch them grow and to be goobers! Yes, riding is part of the equation, but if it's not possible, so what. The little squirt doesn't really care if he is six feet or six inches; what's important to him is: did I get enough treats? Is dinner/breakfast/lunch and my in between snack on time? And lastly,... of course,... am I loffed!

I'm never sure about the first two, but the last one ... no problemo!

HA! It's now official! Someone let me use her official horse-measuring-device ...

Goober (aka Dickins) was born 6/10/2008. That makes him exactly 613 days old...OR 1.68 years old.

Measurements: 13 3.5 in the front, 14.2 in the back. Yup, still butt high!

Here is a picture of Belle Starr, foaled 4/15/08, by Bonheur out of Sandrina/Sao Paulo. This was taken Jan. 31, and she is in her winter woolies and just pulled out of the mud, making her grateful for a clean-up. She is close to 16 hh at the withers.

How big do you think this one will get? What are the parent's size?

Awww, tidy rabbit! I love his Happy Dance, that made me laugh!

I will get some recent pics of my guy soon, promise.
My Oldenburg/Saddlebred gelding is a June '08 model, and as of last week he measured exactly 15.1hh at the withers (a bit higher behind but I didn't bother measuring). Still on track to finish around 16.1hh, yay! :D

OM - what's the breeding on yours again? Sounds like he's going to finish around 14.3hh-15hh...

OM - what's the breeding on yours again? Sounds like he's going to finish around 14.3hh-15hh...

His breeding: Omnipotent/Roseland/Rubinstein. Omni was by Heisman out of an Olisco mare, and Dickens was Roseland's first.

I just have to keep reminding myself that he doesn't care how big he is ... and I surely don't loff him any less. I don't think I'd part with him, ever. He ALWAYS says Hello, whenever I call him. And he reminds me a lot of his Dad (I miss him so much. :()

How big do you think this one will get? What are the parent's size?

Awwww heck. I don't have a clue. At almost a year and three-quarters, I don't think he'll be a giant. Mama: 16.2 Daddy just under 16.1

I'm starting to worry that my beloved Comet! wont be big enough for me. :(

I'm nearly 6 ft tall and need a larger horse, but he's 10 months old and only 14.2 at his withers and a hair over 15 behind.

Both his parents are bit over 16.3. I'm holding my breath.

Jeebus, tidy - 14.2hh at 10 months old?? That's pretty durn tall! Unless he magically doesn't grow at all in the next few months I'd say you're easily going to get 16.2-16.3hh.

I am not ready to let anybody take pictures yet but wanted to tell you all that I rode my baby today! The exercise rider who is breaking her for me rode her first for about 10 minutes doing some w/t/c then I got on. She is just learning but has good brakes and good steering. She likes to drag herself along with her front end rather than push off her hind end and felt like a cross between a llama and a giraffe but all in all I am pleased with her progress. I started some very basic dressage with her asking her to lower her head and use her butt at the walk and she started to get it.

I have only one yearling photo from my babies of 2008, she was bought locally and I have had the pleasure of watching her grow up! :-)

This filly is by Rosenthal out of a DaVinci/Dolberg mare. She was born 6-28-09 She was 14.1 at 16 months and I am hoping she will mature to at least 16 hands. Dam is 16.2h and Sire is 16.3h. Her owner won't mind if she stays on the smaller side as she is only 5'.3" ish!

Here she is at 6 months of age.

no, its an Antares. I actually got it new as a gift for helping my friend train her horse!!! (pretty darn nice gift huh?)

If it wasn't for her I would be starting him in my old flat, slick tudor saddle I have had since I was 14!!!

He has had surcingles on before, so the saddle didn't really phase him. The saddle with me in it may be a different story!!

He will be my first horse from scratch. I used to re-train horses off the race track, but I have never started a baby before. But I have also never bred a horse before! He will be my first on many accounts!

Hopefully it is a piece of cake! I've already sat on Aiden and he could care less. I got on him in pasture one day when I climbed up the pipe panels. I won't start him for another year though.

He's well over 16 hands (I'm in denial about how much over right now). And for those who might remember - this is the little guy we almost that first winter. The wound has healed very nicely and he's 100% sound! :) Belated thanks for all the jingles and moral support! The roaning on his belly is getting 'brighter' and bigger each year and his belly spot is also increasing in diameter...hard to believe that one full brother & a full sister has a medium sized star and tiny coronet each. The other sister has a big(ger) star and 3 stockings but nothing like this fellow's chrome. :sigh:

Video's below are 2008 filly Donnalja Frederika 30 days under saddle. Her trainer reports never a buck or rear during the starting process. Donnalja is sired by Don Frederico and bred by Hidden Acres Farm. She is the daughter of SP/EM Radunja and 1/2 sister of EM Halleluja . She will participate in the AHS Mare Performance Test August 12, 2011 in Manchester, MI. Our fingers are crossed!

I free-jumped my 2008 Lordship/Cacique gelding the other day - only his 2nd time ever, and 1st time was over a year ago as a 2yo. I plan to keep him for myself for the dressage ring, but I like to free-jump them every now and then to mix it up and was curious to see how he did. We kept things small to start, but I was so happy with him - he was such a good boy, very calm and relaxed through the jumps but obviously enjoyed it because he definitely kicked up his heels afterward! And pretty cute form too! Pics and video at http://fridayschildfarm.com/Livewire.htm

I am finally updating.

Here are my 2 kids, taken on May 21st.

Shenanigans (http://i53.tinypic.com/2i0ydki.jpg) - Oldenburg gelding by Sempatico out of my TB mare. He has been under saddle for 6 weeks now. I haven't ever free jumped him yet, but have seen him jump a 5' gate to escape a box stall.

Gamblers Moon Dust (http://i54.tinypic.com/28whtv7.jpg)- filly, double registered APHA and AWS. Started training same as my gelding, and haven't free jumped either, but she's jumped the pasture fences.

I plan to event both of them, and will start them over fences next year when they turn 4.

Both live in pasture, and like to splash water out of the trough then roll in the mud it makes, so they are never totally clean.....

interesting thing is that he rides BIG... big walk, powerful big stride in trot.....

i was so excited i cried ;)

no riding pics, but here he is a couple weeks back doing what he loves most - eating ....

Here is my 2008 baby. Donnalja Frederika. She is Don Frederico filly o/o our Elite Mare Radunja (Rosentau/Weltmeyer). I can hardly believe this is what she grew up to be!! :);)

She is preparing this summer for her AHS Mare Performance Test by competing USDF Materiale classes. MPT test is in August.

So far USDF Materiale ride scores: 77.7% and 78% and she was the 3 year old filly Materiale winner at both shows.

Video is of her 78% ride.

If she makes elite she will represent 7th direct generation in her damline to do so. (her 1/2 sister Halleluja achieved this as well). Well.. if she doesn't make elite.. she is going to make one heck of a dressage horse. You would have thought she was showing her whole life. She just turned 3 years old in June 2 weeks before this video was done. Calm as a cucumber.

Went out yesterday to see what Bomber thought of free jumping... By George I think she likes it! (http://youtu.be/7wLQ1S2QhDA)

We kind of did a hurry up job - she literally only did 5 jumps. I didn't include the trot jump because it was blurry. It was hotter than Hades out and I really just wanted to get an idea of what she was going to jump like, so we just went up to about 2'6" with it quickly. I'm quite pleased!!

So jealous of all of you who have nice round, filled out babies... *sigh* i have to keep reminding myself that lean is good and healthy for a 3 yr old.. i wish mine wasn't so ribby/lanky.. :(

That said, I am beyond thrilled with my baby boy's under saddle debut. He went to 2 back to back Dressage shows in June, on the 12th and the 18th, and came home with 2nds and 3rds and a Reserve Champion, with scores ranging from the low to mid-60's at Intro. He was a perfect gentleman, stood tied to the trailer before and after his classes, quietly munching hay. An absolute gem, didn't put a foot wrong the entire day.

Here are our 2 fillies of 2008 -

Westerleigh WF has the front socks and is more compact model at just over 16.0 hands. She is by Waldaire out of a South American Way xx/Abundance daughter.

Dream Girl WF has the blaze, hind stocking and 2 socks. Daisy is about 16.2 and should finish under 17 hands (unlike her full siblings that are much taller models). She is also out of a South American Way xx/Abundance daughter but by Dressage Royal.

The 5th photo is of our Wolfgang WF. He is shipping to his fantastic new home later today! Ironically, he is also out of the 3rd SAW/Abundance daughter we kept and by Waldaire. 3 very different mares and the most similar at this age - Dream Girl & Wolfgang are out of the full sisters...ah genetics! :)

Congrats Copilot, what an awesome start!! :D

I have an update as well, my 3 yr old went to a Breeder's Show this weekend too. He didn't do well in the 3 yr old line class (he's out 24/7 and is lean/lanky, didn't stand a chance against all the huge, fattened up, spotless youngsters), but he redeemed himself big time when he took 2nd out of 4 in the CSHA Hunter Under Saddle w/t/c class (judge was Randy Roy!).
We even misjudged timing and had to tack him up lightning fast, and my catch rider, who had never sat on him before, did one circle of trot and then went into the ring and he was a total superstar.

Sooo proud!! :D
