Not really crazy but I do miss him! :( I'm trying very hard not to email the trainer everyday for updates. I know that he's fine and being very well cared for, but I'd love to hear how he is doing, and basically anything and everything that's going on. I dropped him off on Monday and the trainer told my that by the end of the week she would be able to give me a pretty good assessment of where he is and what needs to be worked on, so I will be patient and call on Sunday I suppose. I love the trainer, and I know he's going to do well for her. I've prepared him very well to start undersaddle work, he's very smart, loves to learn, so no worries there. Actually no worries at all, it's just hard being away and not able to just be there for him. Can anyone relate, or am I truly crazy? :) I am going down next week for a visit and see what they've been working on. Can't wait!

They should have some webcam type of thing up in his stall or in the arena so you can watch! I would love that!

They should! We actually joked about that when I was dropping him off :) They have them at doggie daycares now, why not?

If you have done your research well on the trainer, all should be well.
Most times the trainer is too busy to sit and answer emails. so keep restraining yourself. Enjoy your day of seeing progress.

Oh yes, I can totally relate.
It felt like I was handing over the keys to the Ferrari.

I can totally relate as well. Both my horses went away for training last spring/summer, and I thought I was going to go crazy. I ended up spending all that extra horse obsession time putting an addition on the barn, painting fences and getting the pasture just right for their return :)
I tried to make it once a week to watch the trainer work with them, and once they were solid under saddle, to take a lesson. That helped alot.

I can totally relate- my baby leaves for the trainer's on Monday!
I completely trust the trainer and I'm welcome to visit her at any time, but I'm still sending my little girl off away from home for the first time and I'm feeling slightly bereft. A webcam would definitely help ;)

goes away April 1st. I trust the trainer completely, but I am already losing sleep as he will be 5 hrs away. The hard part will be not seeing him several times a day, he has been in my backyard since he was a weanling. We need a support group. Jeanne

We do need a support group!! I'm trying to stay busy too so I don't pester her. I've already finished one book and onto my second, pulled weeds, bathed the dogs :)
I'm glad I'm not the only one... It know sending them off is routine for some people, but he's my only horse and I've had him since he was a yearling. Who is tucking him in at night? Giving him his daily cookie? Scratching his itchy spots? ;) I'm planning on him being there for two months, which seems like forever!! I know it's nothing in the overall scheme of things, and the foundation he's getting will be awesome! Plus I'll have weekly visits and lessons once he's going pretty well under saddle.

Yep, Olivia goes off to training in just 3 days  She's a big girl now, though, just a hair under 16.2.
I need to update her page, but here are some recent-ish pictures-

OMG, Olivia's going off to training? REALLY? It seems like just yesterday she was born. She is making her internet Aunty feel old! She looks GREAT! Girl, you BETTER post some pics of her under saddle. This is an exciting event! I am so thrilled.
OP, don't worry, the 2 months will fly by. When Frodo was 2, I was gone for six months and could not see him or Bugs... I thought I was going to die! I made it, BARELY!! LOL

I am happy to read that I am not the only one missing my kid while he is at boot camp! I dropped him of on Feb 21 and then I had to travel (for work)to Lake Tahoe for three weeks...I know you are really feeling sorry for me;). But I do miss my boy and my trainer says he is doing well. I can't wait till 3/15 when I can see him again!!! This is the longest I have ever gone without seeing him. I hope he doesn't think I sold him:sadsmile:

I just thought I would bump this thread back up and see how all of your babies are doing? I went for a visit this weekend and my boy is doing awesome! We've had several rain days that's slowed progress a bit, but otherwise, he's doing soooo good. He's been there 5 weeks now, and will be coming home in one more month. CAN'T WAIT! He's being trained by a "cowboy" who is just amazing. I know several people who have sent their babies to him, and they've all turned out beautifully. I love how he breaks everything down into tiny tiny baby steps for the horse, and is all about going at whatever pace the horse needs. Right now they're working on not getting the zoomies when asking for an upward transition. He'll trot when asked, but it's a fast trot :) same with the canter. He did so good this weekend, started a little fast, but took no time at all to settle into a nice relaxed gait. Worked on following the rail and lots of transitions. He's going to start working on him staying between the aids, with some point to point work this week. I gave him lots of cookies and hand-grazed him for about an hour afterwards :)
Here's my little flip camera video... working on getting those leads too

We're in North Texas and it is beautiful this time of year! All of the wild flowers are blooming, and everything is green, green, green!! I love this time of year, other than the wind. That arena is pretty huge...he graduated from the round pen a couple of weeks ago and is doing great in the open area. There's a neato trail course there too that he'll be working on this week. Lots of fun obstacles..teeter-totter, bridges, tarps, etc. There is a horse-eating shed at then end of the arena that he likes to eyeball  but the wind was howling that day too.
Hey Ambrey! I posted here before I found DM, so I thought I would update ;)He'll be back home May 15th :) Can't wait!!!!
I would love to hear how everyone else's horses are doing who are in training now.

I also scheduled his training so that he'll be home right about when we'll be hitting the 90 degrees ++ weather. I'd much rather put the miles on my greenie 4 year old in the summer than the cool and windy Spring :D
