Well, after kicking around the idea of taking driving lessons (and procrastinating because I think it's going to be addictive)...I've scheduled one for this Saturday.

I just can't wait!

Any tips, stories, jokes, advice, is very welcome. I'm a good student. I listen, keep my mouth shut, and try to do what I'm told.

Oh goody! I just started with the ASB folks, so I am not sure if they have different styles, (actually I am sure they do, we didn't use any sort of check and the working harness substitutes snaps, nylon cord and racehorse blinders for traditional parts) but I'll give you a tip - you'll freeze in the cart, dress warmly. I am used to warming up as I ride so I wear less than if I were just going to be outside. In the cart you are 1) not moving your own body and 2) moving pretty quick so you get wind chill. Be patient and go slow, I took two lessons just harnessing, one for parts, another for putting to the cart. Good drivers make it look so easy, so be patient, you may find your arms tiring as your hand position can be high depending on the cart, but yes it is fun! My teacher is threatening me with cones in the future - I'm just happy not to scrape the wall so far. Have a great time!

Ha ha - I think I met you! I had just finished my lesson with Rosie. How did it go with Braemar?

Warning: Totally addictive. There is no 12-step program once you get bit by the bug.

Mark your calendar for Gayla's CDE. It's great fun!

Hey! What a small world! How wonderful!

Braemar was too cute.

I plan to be back in two weeks for another lesson, and plan to attend the clinic on CDE/driving they are hosting towards the end of the month.

I think I can see how this can be so addictive...:D

I'm having a great time with weekly driving lesson. Can't wait until I can go see my driving horse and get another lesson.

My husband says I'd get up out of my sick bed to go drive that horse. I think he is right. Lotsa times I don't feel like doing work around the ranch, but I'll jump up and go off to driving lessons.

You'll have a GREAT TIME.

I think I met you as well. You were just starting as I was untacking my horse. So glad you had a great time. Its so much fun. On the other hand if anyone had told me just how long it takes to clean a harness. I might have taken up knitting <g>

It's heady stuff. My first pony spent almost 4 months at the driving trainer's and I was down there just about every single weekend during that time, helping with his training and just soaking up as much of the new knowledge as I could. On one of my infrequent weekends at my own home barn one of my friends said, "Karen, if your husband was in PRISON you wouldn't go see him half as often as you go see that horse!" To which I replied, "And your point is what?":D:lol:

And Karen, we do miss you at local events. Are you ever coming back?

Sue, you have no idea how much I miss being down there with all of you at all the events! :( I packed about 70K miles on the old truck and trailer making that trip back and forth from 2003-06 and they are just not reliable enough to do that anymore. And there is no new rig in the budget for the foreseeable future. Otherwise I'd be there in a heartbeat. I might be able to drive down in my car this spring or summer without ponies. I'm going to check with Bob and Brenda and see if they can put me to work for a few days. I seriously need to catch up with all of you. And get my Willard's fix. :D

Count me in !!!! I haven;t been to Willards in over a year!!! Once I decided to lay off of showing this year, there wasn;t much to take me over to that area often.
Definitely miss it and the good times!!!

Not too hijack the thread but I just sold my draft team show leather harness. Why? Because life is too short.

I like the hose/sponge/dryoff method of cleaning (bio) harness. I like that the "patent -psuedo leather" doesn't scratch up like leather. So, I don't get so many points for turn out. I also don't spend hours cleaning and oiling. I am so done with that giggle!

The added benefit to bio...it can be kept in the tack room. WHAT A CONCEPT. My huge pantry is now a...pantry! YAHOO!
