Freak accident takes our Pablo filly...

So sad to say that our Pablo filly was playing with her buddies yesterday and stepped the wrong way, totally breaking her hind leg just below the stifle. The vet said there was nothing he could do to save her. It is amazing how much a horse can touch lives in such a short time, Paprika was only 11 months old. She was brave until the very end and she will remain in our hearts forever...

Thanks everyone for your kind words. This was my 12 year old daughter's filly. She had picked her out to be her next partner. My daughter, Jensen has taken this really hard. I know time will help, but it is so sad to see how much this has devasted her. Here is a pic of the two of them...

I am so, so sorry. I know EXACTLY how you feel, unfortunately. I had a gorgeous Pablo colt this year (sold in-utero) and his owners called me in December to tell me they had found him in his pasture with a badly broken/dangling front leg. Nothing could be done for him either...

I can't tell you how sorry I am. I lost a filly similarly a few weeks ago. It didn't help that she was one of my most favorites EVER. I've cried a river of tears. That is horribly sad for all involved, and you have my sincere sympathy. The little ones have our hearts so quickly, they are so innocent and often trusting. This has to be especially hard for Jensen who was Paprika's best buddy, it takes time to heal and make room in her heart for a new friend, and I know Paprika will have a little sister, still none can take the place of the ones we lose and it takes time to heal and deal with a loss like this. How sad for your daughter and you too. My girls were closely involved in our breeding efforts so I understand the true heartache it brings to the whole family. More than one weanling got "broken" by my girls sitting on them while the youngster was lying down in the stall. Lots of hugs to everyone.
