I love the different colour hunt coats, and I envy the fact that the hunter rider's get to wear such different things.

I found an Eggplant coloured dressage frock, do I dare buy it? More so could I have the nerve to actually wear it? It looks really nice!

What color is your horse? I think it would look great on a dk bay or *swoon* a gray...:cool::yes:

I was just thinking about this looking at the gray jacket from Dressage Extensions...

Dare I? Of course it would probably look a little silly with my bright orange red dun QH :D

Oh, where??? I want one!!!!

Is there a link? Does it come in fluffy sizes?

I was thinking to go with the anthracite color, but egglpant would warm up my gray so nicely (and I'm never going to show upper levels anyway, so who cares?).

Oh, absolutely!! I bet it's gorgous.
Set a trend. I would love to see more color in the dressage arena. There's no reason why dark green, brown, eggplant, and gray, shouldn't be right along side navy and black in dressage coats.
The Anthracite one is beautiful, subtle gray, not at all "out there".
In fact, I know there's one on ebay right now. ;)

The only downside to more color in the dressage arena is the liklihood that we'll start seeing tons of threads asking "What color coat goes best with my horse?" threads, like there are in the hunter forum. Buy what you like and trust your own eyes when it comes to compatibility with your horses' coats.

No. It would be a horrible faux pas. You need to send me the link so I can buy it and you will not be tempted again.

I want darkest, darkest midnight purple... and when we get our custom shad, I will move heaven and earth for it to be the darkest ever GREEN. Like midnight blue, only green. I don't like blue. And my chetty is COPPER. And I'm a redhead. And darkest green will be fabulous.

For now, I stole an RJ Classics shad from The Collection Online, which is black, but has a plum lining.

me too, that's why it's on ebay... ;)

OH, and Pinto, Cambrai used to make green and burgundy shadbellies.... I saw them a few years ago, when Whitman was closing them out and they were to die for!! where they all went, I have no idea....

So where did you find this lovely eggplant coat? Give a link please...I'm
dying to see it!
I look SO dead in black and navy is not much better.

I currently show in a home-made over hunt coat. I changed the buttons
to silver w/gold ; added a 4th 'fake' button (just the button with a snap on
the back. Buttonholes are beyond my sewing abilities!). :D

I'll be wearing burgendy, my favorite colours are burgendy and black.... I have a stately gray so I think we will be just lovely.

<le sigh>

Wow. It sounds pretty and tasteful in a "pushing the envelope" kind of way. Please push the envelope, if only to help the rest of us!

Your biggest problem is going to be finding an aubergine dye that won't run in the rain - for your helmet.

DO IT.

I have a grey jacket I show lower level stuff in. LOVE IT. Have received nothing but great compliments on it...

The problem is I am more of a smolderer. LOL You look good in your grey coat!

Patchworkfarm..nice play on words.

I remember about 8 or 9 years ago I convinced my then boss/owner of a tack shop to buy a navy coat with velvet collar and it had silver piping. It was very sharp, she had a grey at the time. But I don't think she ever had the nerve to actually wear it.

I wish there was a photo!

I think it would be lovely. Unfortunately, it doesn't come in "extra fluffy."

Look at this one (a little long, but look at the colors!):

You would think for $590 :eek::eek: that they would have a jacket that *fit* the model, and that she would take a little care with the appearance...

Muddy boots, t-shirt, messy hair, looks... like she has had a few too many. Weird.

I also wish they showed photos of the other colors, they do sound interesting - coral?!

The hunt coat is worse. Huge on the unkempt model, AND she's not wearing a shirt underneath it. Yuck.

Mar. 3, 2009, 10:35 PM
But they are made from ALPACA!

LOL, glad it wasn't just me that thought the whole thing looked a bit unkempt. I do like the idea of colors, though.

eta: it was the only link that came up when I searched for "eggplant dressage coat."

I know it's not eggplant.. but I bought my grey coat from Dressage Extensions. Great price, super nice coat. I loves it. :)

And no Alpacas were shorn to make it ;)

You can get the Pikeur in anthracite- is it darker than the gray?

Ooh, I love the pinstripe!

I'm thankful they don't show the other colors. Orange and turquoise? Where's the vomiting emoticon? That coat is very ill-fitting. It looks rumpled. Ugly.

You're right. The model does look like she had a few too many. Too bad she wasn't wearing the orange.

Sabovee - any chance we can see a pic of you in the coat? I am interested to see how dark it is in real life... and if you happen to have an orangey red dun QH to model with you... that would be *extremely* helpful

Must be the fall I took from said QH tonight (slipped out from under me during a long rein walk break - first time I have come off that horse in 4+ years:sigh:).

I definitely remember looking at those pics earlier today and thinking how great Sabovee looked.

Here's another incredibly attractive one - you can really see the colour.

THere was a woman on our local dressage circuit showing in a purple jacket. Personally I didn't like it. It was a bit too purple.

My trainer wouldn't allow me to put his name on the entry form if I tried such a thing. But eggplant shouldn't be purple purple, it should be a deep, mellow grayish color.

I'm kind of enamored with the eggplant, and my mare IS grey… I think it would look wonderful. I just don't think I'd have the nerve to stand out that much.

My trainer said in a recent lesson (when we were discussing the "creative" attire some people had at a recent schooling show) that she thinks black and white are the only ways to go in the show ring. I wonder if she'd pretend not to know me if I showed up in eggplant

I love the eggplant. I have a fabulous large pony mare that is the coolest shade of chestnut, more of a chocolatey/not quite liver color. She has a purple halter and that color is beautiful on her. I'd love to do it, but the truth is I haven't had the guts to show her much (folks are used to seeing me on the BIG ones;)) and in the purple I'd really stand out. I'd have to take my brave pills for sure!!!

JRG - I love that one! A little out of my price range though.

It's times like this that I wish I had a gray horse - so many more options. Sabovee, thanks for posting pics of your gray coat, I have admired it on Dressage Extensions before and wondered how it looked in real life. You wear it well! :)
