Hello everyone. I am looking for this bit (http://www.bitofbritain.com/Wonder_Bit_p/739.htm) with a thicker mouthpiece. I have this bit currently and it is too thin for my OTTB's mouth. He tosses his head alot with it. Has anyone been able to find a "wonderbit" with either a thicker snaffle mouthpiece or maybe a double jointed mouthpiece? I found one other but it was imported from England and was like, $90.00. I don't want to spend that much if I don't have too. Thanks for any help!

Try the Stubben Golden Wings gag. It is a doubled jointed wonder bit with a thicker mouthpiece.

I was going to suggest the same one as Come Shine. PP, I have one if you want to borrow it. I know we aren't too close, but if you ever come up this way, let me know, or I can give it to Lisa. I really like that bit a lot, but I'm not using it on anyone right now. You an try it before you buy one and see if he likes it.

you might also consider wrapping the bit. Boy I'm showing my age. We used to wrap the bits in latex....came in a green box. It would make the bit thicker and softer. Might be less expensive than buying a new bit.

ETA: What do you know. BOB sells it....might be a more affordable solution for you. http://www.bitofbritain.com/Seal_Tex_Latex_Bandage_p/0720.htm

I have the one from VTO that Bobthehorse posted about and I've been very happy with it. Here's the link:

Two of yah beat me to it.
I also LOVE the one from VTO with the center revolver. It's a fantastic wonderful bit for Fleckers...though he does like to play with it a little ;)

Try searching for "beval snaffle". That's another name for that bit. :)

Thanks guys. Is that Stubben bit legal? Well, I guess any bit for jumping is, but it's so flashy! Yesterday in my jump lesson we tried a DR Bristol and basically my trainer called it a "meeting of the minds". He just had too much contact at the base of the fence and it was awful. She said he needed to remember who was boss, since he's at the point in his training that he thinks he hot sh*t, lol. I think I like that VTO bit, but I think he's a 5 1/4 and they don't have it. Maybe he could do with a 5". I'll have to buy it and try it.

OP: I have the wonder bit that you referred to in your first post. I also found it to be a little too much bit and my horse would be fussy.

My DH got me the Stubben Golden Wings for X-Mas. I've posted before about my stong TB mare and some of the challenges we have had. With this Stubben bit, I really like how I am able to balance her without having too much bite, which was a problem with some other bits that I tried. I love the 'wings' part and how it sits in her mouth. It doesn't look too garish once it is in, although hanging in the tack room, it sure looks, ummm, fancy. I hope it's legal to use in the show ring. :)

PP, I'd recommend getting the 5 1/2 if your horse normally wears a 5 1/4. My guy is normally a 5", but I got him a 5" in this bit and we had some pinching issues, I think because of the loose rings plus the gag effect. I got a 5 1/4 (from this site in the UK: http://www.shop4bits.com/item--Eldonian-by-Jeffries-Revolver-Loop-Ring-with-Lozenge--BICR05.html) and use it with bit guards. JMO :)

I saw a version of that center revolver from Happy Mouth at BoB:
http://www.bitofbritain.com/Happy_Mouth_Loop_Ring_Gag_p/465284.htm

What do people think of these Happy Mouth bits? Is it worth the extra little bit to get Happy mouth vs. a regular all-metal bit equivalent?
