Anyone have these reins? Have you used them for dressage???? Or just the jumping phases? I'm considering those reins, but I don't want to spend $100 for them without hearing reviews first!

Absolutely love them!

I have very long fingers and appreciate a rein with a little more heft to it. I dislike the stiffness of regular "pimpled" rubber reins, but the Eventas are lovely.

I LOVE them as well - they're one of the most comfy set of reins I've used!

However, I've heard quite a few people say they're too slippery. I've never run into that though, and I ALWAYS get rained on (esp at shows) - it's just my luck. :)

on the reverse of citydog, I find I don't like them because I have little hands and they are bulkier than I want.

I don't find these reins are worth the money. I own a tack shop and got them in. I have them on 2 bridles and don't find they give me any more grip than your average rubber rein. Try the Soft Grip reins. THey just started producing them in Black & Brown. Buttery soft and flexible.

I do find that they get too slippery when wet, either from rain or sweat. I actually like the "cheap" rubber reins my tack shop has for around $30 a pair. Much better price, and they don't get nearly as slippery.

Definalty agree. I HATE my eventa reins, thick, bulky, and they were slippery, ESPECIALLY when wet.

The soft grips (I have the KL select version) and they are amazing, very flexable, and super grippy!

Slippery when wet = NOT my ideal set of reins.

I ride in the Thinline Reins. They grip even BETTER when they're wet.

hate them. way too slippery even when NOT wet. I ride a mare that throws her head and she always pulls the reins out of my hands. I had to switch to the pimpled rubber reins and they work much better for me.

Another one on the dislike team. I find them way too slippery in normal conditions, forget about wet. On the other hand, I love my Bobby's English Tack reins. Good luck on the search!

I've never had a pair of reins that I wouldn't keep just as spares until I bought Eventas: they've been in my "dump!" pile for awhile now. I can't stand them.

The Crump rubber reins have worked fine for me. $15 bucks at my local feed store. VTO has them too. I've caught some $hit for using "cheap reins" by some friends, but they are really working fine! So far!

Me too. I'll 2nd (or 3rd) above on the Soft Grip. I got a pair on ebay just in time for a clinic last weekend and LOVED them.

I find them too bulky and prefer the kind that are only lined in rubber on one side. They are danged hard to find. I have a Prestige pair and I am praying they don't wear out anytime soon.

THANKS so much for all of your replies! I was worried that they'd be too "thick" too....I'm used to a 5/8" rein and these look like they are 1" where you HOLD the reins!

I love my Soft grip from NF, but my problem is that the rubber does not go far enough down the reins toward the bit with my horse so i had to end up switching back to my Eventa (which I am not a fan of, get too slippery). Anyone know of other reins like the Soft grip from NF that has more rubber?

That's funny, because I've never had a problem with my Eventa reins slipping. I actually got them because my horse sweat a lot and can get quite lathered on his neck, and these are the only reins I can grip (maybe because they're wider?). I actually have the opposite problem - I have to remember to really open my fingers going down drops or they won't slide out of my hands as easily as other reins.

I have the best gloves in the world though that actually increase in tackiness when they get wet...maybe that's the difference. I've never tried my Eventa reins with bare hands.

I wonder if the gloves you use make a difference..
I always wear SSGs or a type with a grippy palm and I've never had problems with the reins slipping, plus I find them easier to grip but I'm older(a little arthritic) and have larger hands so maybe that's why they're so comfortable for me.
However, yesterday I rode with a pair of Heritage winter gloves with the leather palms and my eventa reins felt like *&^%!! I wonder if the reins are slippery if you ride with leather palm gloves but not with grippy palm gloves?Inquiring minds want to know....

I was thinking the same thing! I have tons of gloves, but my favorite ones are just the cheapy cotton pebble ones, hehe. Those are my schooling gloves. I have the Nuemann Tackified gloves and I know they are quite popular with the eventing crowd :) So I figured that the ones that say they are really tacky are likely riding with those types of gloves!

I am another fan of cheapie cotton pebbled gloves, buy about 6 pairs beginning of each season when I see them on sale, but I also really like my ariat gloves and have some SSG and Roeckl as well (I am just a glove ho I guess ). Still my favorite reins are the webbing with rubber thread and leather stops. I find they give a great grip and are easier to adjust at the gallop

I HATE gloves with a passion so ride without. I've never had a problem with rubber reins slipping until buying the eventa eels. Can't hold them when they're wet to save my life.

The Roeckl's are by far the best gloves I have ever owned. Very thin so you don't feel like there's much between you and the reins, and they grip like crazy. They last forever too - my everyday pair is three years old and still going strong!
