Does anybody know of a good lameness expert in Aiken, SC?
I’m looking to vet a horse out & don’t know of any vets in that area.
Thanks

I've never used her for a PPE but Lisa Handy at Carolina Equine is FABULOUS at everything else she does! 803.642.9195

If you are doing it in the next couple weeks, Kevin Keane is down there and he is phenomenal. don't know if he is taking on business while there

Sarah Thompson is by far the most economical, personable, and thorough with an eye to managability. Her number is 803 295 8509. She is very prompt to schedule you in and punctual to boot.

Dr Jamie Carter, Southern Equine Service
803-644-1544
Full service clinic on Banks Mill Rd, extremely thorough, honest.
Would highly recommend him or any of his associates.

I do not agree. I used to sell horses in Aiken. And worked for a few Vets as the sucker who rode horses for the PPE. As a seller, I would recommend all those Vets. I would not for a buyer. They are all honest and great Vets, but I am not 100% they are what I would call lameness experts. Better then most, but not the best.
I have seen them pass lame horses. I have seen horses I knew to be lame pass the PPE. I can't say the Vets should have known the horses was lame on that day at that time, but I knew they were lame and had been for awhile. That's one of the stinky things about not using the horses regular Vet for a PPE. You know that Vet knows the horses history, but that's why they cannot be used:(
I like Jamie Carter's partner named Greg something. That is who I would use if I were doing a PPE. I have no experience with Kevin Keane.
There is nobody I would avoid, but I have just seen to many slip through the cracks with a lot of Vets here over the years.

I completely agree with Equinelaw. Had a pre-purchase done on a horse in Aiken last year that according to the local Vet passed with flying colors. However, when they e-mailed the x-rays to my vet here in Southern Pines it was a completely different story. This horse had VERY serious issues. Thank goodness I didn't rely on the Aiken vet. I would have spent $28000 on a worthless horse. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

I would and have used Dr. Carter. He was extremely thorough. I have had his findings with a number of horses confirmed by other vets. I have not had experience with any of the other vets with a prepurchase.

Do not use Dr. Handy!!!! She said that this horse's x-rays were the cleanest she had ever seen.... sent it to our regular vet and found about 6 different things. It was also the most expensive pre-purchase Ive ever heard of, even compared to vets at southern pines and tryon it was outrageous!!!
