I really need one! :D
I jumped Vernon today, after a few weeks of having not jumped him (and last time was, umm, exciting!). HE IS SUCH A TOTAL FREAKIN ROCK STAR!!! He is SO much fun to jump. Even when we don't get it quite right (well, when I don't get it quite right), he's all about just getting the job done. And we can't just get the job done and be done, nope, we have to do it with style and class and make sure we get the giggle factor in (I have a tendency to giggle when my horse really tries hard for me ). He was jumping out of his skin, so rideable, and just reminded me for the 1,345,274th time why I LOVE him. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that he also does dressage. That's pretty sweet, too. I am on such pins and needles in anticipation for Morven!!! I'm hoping that my arms won't be a foot longer as I have a feeling he's going to get out on novice and go "meh, novice". Hopefully since he hasn't done this since October, he'll be a little backed off.
Considering our rather disasterous day on Saturday, I'm glad he's totally knocked my socks off the last couple of days. Now if only I can figure out how to get his coat to look as good as the rest of him.
Thanks for the moment. You may return to your regularly scheduled programming.

The bond between you and your horse is the reason we get so adicted to our sport. Way to go! Extra Carrots to Vernon!
And I may not know the whole story, but have you tried adding black oil sunflower seeds for coat health? As long as your horse isn't IR, they're a great (fairly cheap) additive to feed. About a cup a day usually works.

Whoo, hoo! I'm tickled for you and your pony! I LOVE hearing about good rides.
Keep that core engaged and the arms won't stretch. Too much. :-)
Rock on to both of you!

I'm actually going to start him on flaxseed. He has a lot of skin allergies and when I clipped him again recently, it not only caused a few days on hives, but also showed some stuff that was hiding in his fuzzy coat. So, while he wants to have a shiny coat, being scurfy and bumpy doesn't help. It also doesn't help that every little nick or bite or nibble he gets in the field leaves a mark! He's a bit moth eaten looking, so, while he's fit and sleek and great looking and tries to be shiny, it doesn't help really. Trying flaxseed, as it is supposed to be very good for allergies.

I recently switched Harry from corn oil to whole flax seed and am pleased with the results. The last time I took Harry off corn oil to another product, he looked like sh*t. But he's looking fat, happy and shiney now. So hopefully it helps Vernon.

That's great! So happy for you and Vernon. I wish for everyone to have those more often.

:D That's so cool!
I got on Connor for the first time in awhile yesterday. I have been riding Mark a lot because he needs the work seeing as Mark is not even in the same ball park yet dressage wise as Connor. As soon as I trotted Connor I realized why I adore my horse- there is nothing like the feeling of a good, correct trot to remind you what all the hard work is for :D.

A totally different kind of giggle factor with this- http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1426097&l=c7ea6&id=840606599
Reason 37 for why I adore this horse; he cracks my ass UP!!! He did this all on his own this morning while waiting for the slow humans to get their butts in gear and turn him OUT (he'd polished off his hay). I was no where near him, in fact, I was on the other end of the aisle talking to the boss as he was blanketing another horse. I look up, and there is silly Vernon, with his antisweat draped over his head. I nearly hit the floor I was laughing so hard. St. Spike, in the stall across from him, was far less amused. I thought he was going to climb over the back wall of his stall in his panic to get away from Vernon's brain eating alien. Vernon thought he was pretty clever.:lol:

Okay, I'll play
Here's an excerpt from a journal I'm keeping. This was a few days ago, but the :D lingers on:Bootcamp has kicked my ass these last two days, and my thighs are so sore it's all I can do to get in and out of a chair, never mind do any useful riding (3 min squat sets holding a 10lb weight in each hand:dead:) So today was a free lunge day.
Set up a single fence along the rail, and slowly raised it. He was having WAY too much fun, when he's in the mood all I have to do is stand in the middle and cluck a bit, and he zips around on his own. No chute or anything, just the skinny fence (poles are 6ft landscape timbers) and 2 barrels as a wing.
I added a rail after every couple of trips over it, 'til it was a smidge under 4 ft. He hit it once or twice as it went up, when he got too cocky and fast, and when he was too busy looking over his shoulder at the mares' field, silly ass. After a couple of lovely efforts over the 4 ft in each direction, I called it quits. Or at least I meant to. He came over huffing and puffing looking for a cookie and a skritch. I rubbed his sweaty face and gave him the last peppermint, and then shooed him away. He didn't believe me, so I flapped my vest at him and said Go away! Go roll! He spun off all miffed, took about 4 trot steps, and hopped the 4 ft fence without coming close to touching it
Love this horse :D
And one more:Jumping saddle that fits - $1500
Board at a barn with a mediocre ring - $200
Extra rails and cups for homemade jumps - $50
A spring afternoon schooling over big fences when the footing is perfect and your horse is up and on the muscle - Priceless
