View Full Version : Best Joint Supplements

I'm looking for a good joint supplement for my mare, who is a)a the queen of the barn (and thus needs catered to haha) and b) hindered by her conformation. She's got this massive warmblood body stuck on these lloonngg, little toothpick thoroughbred legs. She's had major stifle issues (torn collateral ligament) and thus has sore hocks. My gelding is on Cosequin for maintenance, but she needs something more intensive to keep her comfortable. Anyone have any good recommendations??

Hyaluronex is like nectar from the GODS.
It's not cheap, but my horse used to be on Cosequin, and monthly injections of BOTH Adequan & Legend, plus hock injections every 8 months. With hylauronex he no longer needed the monthly shots or daily cosequin, and we were able to extend his injections to 10-11 months.

Platinum Performance CJ - has all the joint stuff - HA, MSM and also the newer one made from avocados - ASU - the only one our top lameness vets recommend, and it's loaded with other good stuff - so if she's on other supps. (for hooves, coat) you can get rid of those and just use the PP. My horse has arthritic hocks and he is one HAPPY and shiny boy thanks to PP. It is flax based. We love the stuff!

Platinum Perfomance CJ is very good. If you're looking for something to support an older horse or a horse with issues, I would recommend Platinum's other products. Ortho Chon II and Ortho Chon II HA both have higher dosages of the key elements and are competition friendly.

Is she on adequan? Before you spend money on a supplement I would invest in Adequan shots.

Yes, I had the gallon and that lasted me about 7 months ( my horse would get an extra pump before & during shows).

This stuff is AMAZING. You will not be disappointed.

Thats great to hear. I have a really nice little horse that has a GORGEOUS jump.. for about a month after he's had his Legend shot. When it stops to wear off, he starts stopping and getting pissy. I was hoping I could find something that would last longer or provide more relief.

She hasn't been on Adequan, but she's gotten 2 HA injections in the last 3 months (on top of other injections prior to this). Would it be overkill to do the adequan and a supplement like PP or Hyaluronex?

I don't think its over kill to do a supplement in addition to Adequan. Just if you were to chose I would pick Adequan as a first priority. I had an older horse who would do Adequan, Cosequin ASU and Lubrisyn.

Some people also find good success giving Legend shots right before the show. This gets pricey however (as Adequan does too)

Well, I'll have to give the adequan a try. It's expensive, but worth a shot if it can help my mare get back to work and stay working! We've tried her on Legend before, but she went nuts! haha
